A web browser (commonly referred to as a browser) is a software application for accessing information on the World Wide Web. Each individual web page, image, video, and resource in general, is identified by a distinct Uniform Resource Locator (URL), enabling browsers to retrieve these resources from a web server and display them on a user's device.

Security Updates

There are several web browsers available in Debian. Choosing a browser from the options listed below, pay attention if the package gets security updates.

For general web browser use we recommend Firefox or Chromium. They will be kept up-to-date by rebuilding the current ESR releases for stable.

Browsers using webkit2gtk are covered by security support, applications based on qtwebkit are not.
