About the Hackathon
The University of Waterloo's Women in Engineering Mini Hackathon is a great opportunity to practice iterating rapid prototyping, learning how to work in a team under pressure, and consuming lots of caffeine to get through it all. This mini hackathon will have smaller scale scopes and implementations, but you'll go through all the steps of making your hackathon project just like any other. Bonus - you don't need to have any prior experience - so if you've always wanted to learn in a supportive space, this is your chance!
Thank you to Food4Kids Waterloo Region, Fidus Systems, and Deep Trekker for sponsoring this hackathon!
Problem Statement
Approximately 3,000 children in the Waterloo Region do not have access to the nourishment they need to thrive mentally, physically, or socially. School nutrition programs help, but these programs only exist during school hours on the days school is in session.
Food4Kids Waterloo Region (F4KWR) provides an essential service for local children experiencing chronic hunger. They deliver nutritious food packages directly to at-risk, vulnerable children when they are not in school and need our help the most. F4KWR supports children between the ages of 1-14 years old and accommodates a variety of dietary restrictions including gluten and dairy-free, vegetarian and Halal.
