Amin Yousefi (Iran, 1996) lives and works in London. He is studying Documentary Photography at the University of Westminster. He has participated in several international group exhibitions and national awards and prizes. In 2019 he was selected as an Ag Galerie Talent for his work titled, “Life, Death and other Similar Things” which was exhibited in a solo show at Ag Galerie. A native of Abadan in the province of Khuzestan, Iran’s most oil-rich region and the scene for Iran’s bloody war with neighbouring Iraq, Yousefi’s work deals with themes related to the cityscape, environment, humanity and effects of war and how the act of photography can conceptually mirror the structures of these relationships.

Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Sabalan geothermal power plant project in the northweste... more Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of Sabalan geothermal power plant project in the northwestern part of Iran using Rapid Impact Assessment Matrix (RIMA) method is presented. The Sabalan geothermal power plant is planned to produce 50 MW electricity in 2011 in cooperation of the Ministry of Energy (MOE) and Renewable Energy Organization of Iran (SUNA). In this study, an attempt was made to identify and assess the likely key impacts of geothermal exploration, drilling and operation. Then on the basis of current evaluation suggest monitoring program and mitigation plans. Present state information on the regions environment including physical, biological and social environment was collected during 2000-2003, before starting the proposed project activities. In the evaluation process, positive and negative environmental impacts of Sabalan geothermal power plant were assessed based on the results of multidisciplinary team approach and the field survey data using RIMA method. The results of assessment reveal that the 57% of the impacts are positive and 43% are negative, therefore the implementation of the project with some mitigation plans and monitoring program is accepted.

DC voltage imbalance is a significant challenge in photovoltaic systems. These systems can consid... more DC voltage imbalance is a significant challenge in photovoltaic systems. These systems can consider as a current source. Therefore, a capacitor is parallel to the interface converter to meet the limitations of this source. By using the proposed modular structure, the voltage balance can establish. Perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm is used to obtain the maximum power point (MPP) of this system. This algorithm generates the reference currents of the inductors for the converter. A sliding-mode controller is considered to control these currents and balance the voltage at the output capacitors of the system. The three-module system with photovoltaic sources has been simulated using MATLAB/ Simulink software.

The importance and necessity of using renewable energy and its role in achieving sustainable deve... more The importance and necessity of using renewable energy and its role in achieving sustainable development have been considered in recent years. On the other hand, reducing the emission of hazardous gases and greenhouse gases in human societies is necessary, which has increased the use of hybrid vehicles in recent years. These include battery-powered electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles. Therefore, appropriate policies to expand this type of technology in all countries are important and require careful planning and investment. One of the first essential steps in carrying out these plans is the proper introduction of this type of vehicle in the community. Education in schools, universities, and the mass media can play a crucial role in organizing and introducing hybrid vehicles based on renewable energy sources. This paper aims to present and introduce an attractive plan to introduce an example of technology and products from renewable energy sources. The plan is based on a story with attractive photos of hybrid vehicle products and their introduction as family members. Since the type and method of education are essential in transfer concepts to learners, this plan is proposed after studying different teaching methods and learning methods. To evaluate the effectiveness of the project was presented to a group of undergraduate and two groups of graduate students. The polls of these groups show acceptable satisfaction with this plan.

A multidimensional computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model was developed in order to explore the ... more A multidimensional computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model was developed in order to explore the combined effect of injection timing and fuels quantity ratio of different injection strategies on the combustion performance and emissions characteristics of a dual-fuel indirect injection (IDI) engine with a pilot diesel ignition. The total mass of pilot diesel and premixed natural gas equivalence ratio were kept constant while various injection strategies (single, double, and triple) were investigated at 25% engine load and speed of 800 rpm. Results revealed that the released heat of triple injection pulse during the expansion stroke is the same or higher than that of single and double injection pulses at specified injection timings. It affects positively the engine performance. The highest indicated mean effective pressure (IMEP) can be achieved using single injection pulse at all first injection timings. The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize is awarded annually to a living artist of any nat... more The Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize is awarded annually to a living artist of any nationality who has made the most significant contribution, either through an exhibition or publication, to the medium of photography in Europe in the previous year (Deutsche Börse, n.d.). The exhibition is being held with works by Anastasia Samoylova, Jo Ractliffe, Deana Lawson and Gilles Peress on two floors of the Photographer’s Gallery in London. From making a linear story in Northern Ireland to Florida urban spaces, each project presents a unique image of the community the photographer is dealing with. If we consider the fifth floor as the starting point of the exhibition, entering the first hall, we will encounter a dark space where colour is the first thing that attracts our attention. Anastasia Samoylova’s works, which often include sharp colours like pastel pink, are placed on green and purple backgrounds on the wall. She started FloodZone in 2016 when she moved to Miami. Her large-scale works are about responding to the issue of rising sea levels in Florida. However, the images she shows in the first layer are as beautiful as Florida itself, but when we find the signs, we realise that Miami is steadily slipping underwater. A post-apocalyptic city after a catastrophe that has left the city&#39;s body abandoned.

Although photography in Iran has a long history, due to the country's historical events and socia... more Although photography in Iran has a long history, due to the country's historical events and social-political conditions, such as the coming to power of the Pahlavi dynasty, the Islamic Revolution, and the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, it was formed in a scattered manner. These historical events initially prevented the growth and formation of artistic approaches similar to the ones happening in Europe and the United State, but eventually became the source of artistic productions, in recent decades in Iran. In the meantime, Iranian photographers, namely Bahman Jalali, started their work as a reaction to the surroundings and what was happening during those years. Although the activity was formed with great incertitude, it tried to update itself as something called "Iranian Photography".

The photographer is usually the one who is in control of the image being captured. The photograph... more The photographer is usually the one who is in control of the image being captured. The photographer chooses the mise-en-scène1 by choosing his own position. The reactions of the people to the photographer, depend on this position and attitude. In the images of the book, Eyes Dazzle as they Search for the Truth, this relationship has been reversed because the photographers were influenced by the crowds whose eyes had turned towards the camera – as if the subject and object had exchanged places – and it was the people who were capturing the image with their gaze. This was the initial starting point for this project, and it was an exciting moment for me. However, before discussing the photos, I will briefly examine their history and present a simplified version of the Islamic Revolution and the surrounding events which developed in the 1970’s in Iran. I will also explain my personal relationship to what happened forty years ago.

Photography as an artistic practice was introduced to Iran about eight years after it was invente... more Photography as an artistic practice was introduced to Iran about eight years after it was invented in Europe. Historical analysis of the visual elements in 19th-century Iranian photography shows that it was directly influenced by Iranian visual arts traditions especially the Iranian painting tradition (Pérez González, 2012). The root of Persian portrait painting lies in the style of painting which began in the Safavid era (1501-1736) during which there was a great deal of European influence on Persian culture. European art was undergoing a style of realism such as in the work of Rembrandt and Rubens and this influenced Persian painting with the use of heavy layers of paint and dark rich colours which were to become the key elements of painting during the Qajar Dynasty (1789-1925) (Diba, Ekhtiar, 1998). Fat’h Ali Shah (r. 1797-1834), never travelled to the European continent, he, therefore, had many portraits painted of himself which he would send abroad in his place and as gifts to foreign rulers (Image 1). These painted portraits were to serve as the stylistic basis for portrait photography of the Qajar court. The first photographer at the Qajar court was Jules Richard who arrived in Tehran in 1844. He took daguerreotypes of both Mohammad Shah Qajar (r. 1834–48) and his crown prince, Nasir al-Din Mirza. The fate of these early images is unknown however, photography became a severe pastime for the crown prince and after ascending to the throne, portrait painting gradually fell out of favour and photography replaced it as the important art of the court.1
