Paid Positions
USC President
The USC President is the elected student leader responsible for bringing the voices, ideas, and concerns of Western students to the forefront. They lead the USC Executive team, are a member of the USC Board of Directors, and work every day to build a stronger, more connected, and more supportive campus community.
This is a full-time, salaried position elected by the undergraduate student body during the USC General Elections in February.
Vice-Presidents
USC Vice Presidents are student leaders who oversee key portfolios within the organization. Working alongside the President, they lead teams, drive major projects, and advocate for student needs across the university and broader community. Each Vice President manages a distinct area, from advocacy to operations to student programs, ensuring the USC delivers meaningful services, supports, and opportunities for Western’s 37,000 undergraduate students.
These are full-time, salaried positions. The VP University Affairs and VP External Affairs are elected by the incoming and outgoing USC General Council in March. The VP Orientation & Programming, Student Services, and Student Engagement are hired, applications open in early January.
Interns
Interns support the operations side of the USC. With 7 different positions available, interns work full time throughout the year to ensure that the roadmap of the USC is implemented effectively throughout the year. Each intern contributes an important piece of the USC operations, and have the opportunity to work on special projects in their respective fields. Positions include: Human Resources, Marketing and Catering, Photography and Videography, Student Feedback, Web Development, Social Media and Graphic Design. Associate Vice Presidents (AVPs)
AVPs directly support a USC Executive in the execution of their portfolio which allows the Executive and AVP to learn from one another to improve existing processes and give new perspectives, which will benefit the student body at large. There are opportunities available in each portfolio, applications open in March. Associate Vice Presidents are paid an hourly rate for their work.
Coordinators
Coordinators across the various USC portfolios provide much of the hands-on work that contributes to Western’s student experience. They serve as resource providers, service programmers, event planners, social educators, policy writers and more.
Across all USC Executive portfolios, there are dozens of positions open to current Western undergraduate students that provide countless benefits such as professional development and networking opportunities, discounts to USC services and events, and more.
These are part-time, paid positions. Applications open in March.
Production Crew
Our Productions team is responsible for setting up and operating a wide range of audiovisual equipment and furnishings, providing hands-on support and staffing for all events presented by the USC. Part-time crew members will have the opportunity to work on the mainstage during OWeek, on-campus concerts and more throughout the year.
These are part-time, paid positions. 4-14 hours commitment per week. Applications open in March.
The Spoke Part-time Staff
Famous for our bagels and hybrid café-kitchen-bar service model, The Spoke is the largest employer of Western students on campus. We recruit for both front-of-house and back-of-house positions. These are part-time roles, requiring three shifts or a minimum of 12–15 hours per week. Applicants must be students of Western, Huron or King’s and may not hold multiple part-time roles with the USC. New hires must attend all required staff training occurring at the end of August, with specific dates being communicated with employment offers.
The Wave Part-time Staff
Known for our elevated casual dining experience, The Wave has been a favourite on-campus restaurant for over 20 years. We recruit for both front-of-house and back-of-house positions. These are part-time roles, requiring three shifts or a minimum of 12–15 hours per week. Applicants must be students of Western, Huron or King’s and may not hold multiple part-time roles with the USC. New hires must attend all required staff training occurring at the end of August, with specific dates being communicated with employment offers.
Building Services
Our Building Service team keeps the University Community Centre (UCC) running 24/7. Part-time staff will help organize spaces in the UCC, including coverage for the Purple Store, the USC’s student-led retail store, and the USC’s on campus food bank.
These are part-time, paid positions. 5-10 hours commitment per week, but can be flexible. Minimum 3 hour shifts. Applications open in March.
USC Hype Team
Our Hype Team aims to spread the word about USC events, programs, and services, fostering a dynamic and inclusive campus culture that reaches all students. Team members help bring the USC brand to life through creating UGC-style content, interacting with students across campus, and providing on-the-ground social coverage at events.
These are part-time, paid positions. 5-10 hours commitment per week, but can be flexible. Applications open in March.
Governance
USC Councillor
Councillors are undergraduate students elected annually to represent their faculty or association at the USC’s General Council. Councillors bring student voices to the table by participating in monthly Council meetings, and contributing to conversations that shape USC policies, programs, and advocacy priorities.There are two types of councillors, voting members and non-voting resource members.
USC Councillors are elected in January during the Spring USC General Elections.
Board of Directors Member
The Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the corporate sides of the organization. Members have a fiduciary obligation to the corporation and are responsible for policies and procedures that govern the corporate and operational affairs of the organization. They are assigned with approving Council’s yearly budget and assessing financial risks or opportunities. Other important functions include developing strategic plans to assist the USC in fulfilling their obligations to undergraduate students, as well as participating in the development of the USC’s organizational plan and annual review.
These are volunteer 2-year term positions. The USC will cover the costs of training andother incurred expenses such as travel where appropriate. Applications open in December.
Clubs Governance Board
The Clubs Governance Board enforces and oversees policies and procedures that ensure fairness in club culture. The CGB’s Vision is to create a community that supports leadership opportunities among students in a welcoming environment that supports the interest of the club’s community. Additionally the Club’s Governance Board provides clubs with support to ensure they meet their strategic long-term goals for growth and development.
Elections Governance Board
The Elections Governance Board oversees all USC-run elections and by-elections.
Appeals Board
When a particular decision or action is brought forward for examination, the students on the Appeals Board determine whether or not that decision or action was justified or if it is an infringement on the University’s policies and bylaws. Students on the Appeals Board follow the principles of natural justice, advocating for fairness and good conscience to ensure the USC remains a fully democratic and proactive organization
Associate Vice Presidents
Associate Vice Presidents are hired by each executive, and help oversee their specific portfolios operations and team. There are 5 portfolios for which AVP’s are hired: Student Engagement, Student Services, Orientation and Programming, University Affairs, and External Affairs. The AVP’s serve as a right hand assistant to their VP’s, and assist in the execution of their portfolio which allows the Executive and AVP to learn from one another to improve existing processes and give new perspectives. PurpleCARE Trustee
The Student at Large PurpleCARE Trustee position is a fiduciary of the Trust Fund, responsible for the oversight and compliance of the Trust and all of its services providers including the consultant, administrators, insurers, auditors and legal counsel.
These are volunteer 2-year term positions. The USC will cover the costs of training and other incurred expenses such as travel where appropriate. Roughly 2-4 hours per month time commitment. Applications open in January.
Volunteer
Faculty Soph
A Faculty Soph is an upper-year, student mentor who supports the social and academic transition of incoming students throughout Orientation Week (OWeek) and the academic year. In addition to their community building role, a Soph works to connect students to relevant supports, resources, and opportunities. As a representative of their constituency and the larger Western community, a Soph acts as a positive role model and contributes to the creation of a safe and inclusive environment on campus for Western students and staff.
These are volunteer positions with an average of 1-2 hours per week throughout the academic year and summer with the exception of Soph Training (NWeek) (approximately 35 hours per week) and Orientation Week (may exceed 35 hours). Applications typically open in October/November.
Peer Support Volunteer
The Peer Support Centre is a space to provide a listening ear, explore resources, as well as promote self-care. Peer Support Centre Volunteers provide students with confidential, non-professional support that is rooted in the shared experience as students at Western University. The volunteer will create a safe space for their peers through upholding a welcoming, open, and inclusive nature.
Club Executive
Club Executive roles are leadership opportunities within USC-recognized student clubs and associations. Whether you’re managing events, handling finances, leading communications, or shaping a club’s vision, executive positions offer hands-on experience in team management, planning, and community building. These roles are perfect for students looking to make a direct impact, grow their leadership skills, and help shape campus culture
