It was found that the annealing will increase the cell efficiency on ZnO and TiO2 with porous structures. A significant increase of cell efficiency from 0.54% to 1.07% was observed for CdS sensitized porous ZnO solar cells after annealing and 0.52% to 1.29% for CdS sensitized electrospun porous TiO2 electrode. The increase is attributed to the film morphology improvement and the absorption band edge shift of CdS. The annealing does not increase the efficiency for solar cells made from CdS sensitized TiO2 without porous structure.
Calcium binding in proteins exhibits a wide range of polygonal geometries that relate directly to... more Calcium binding in proteins exhibits a wide range of polygonal geometries that relate directly to an equally diverse set of biological functions. The binding process stabilizes protein structures and typically results in local conformational change and/or global restructuring of the backbone. Previously, we established the MUG program, which utilized multiple geometries in the Ca 21 -binding pockets of holoproteins to identify such pockets, ignoring possible Ca 21 -induced conformational change. In this article, we first report our progress in the analysis of Ca 21 -induced conformational changes followed by improved prediction of Ca 21 -binding sites in the large group of Ca 21 -binding proteins that exhibit only localized conformational changes. The MUG SR algorithm was devised to incorporate side chain torsional rotation as a predictor. The output from MUG SR presents groups of residues where each group, typically containing two to five residues, is a potential binding pocket. MUG SR was applied to both X-ray apo structures and NMR holo structures, which did not use calcium distance constraints in structure calculations. Predicted pockets were validated by comparison with homologous holo structures. Defining a ''correct hit'' as a group of residues containing at least two true ligand residues, the sensitivity was at least 90%; whereas for a ''correct hit'' defined as a group of residues containing at least three true ligand residues, the sensitivity was at least 78%. These data suggest that Ca 21 -binding pockets are at least partially prepositioned to chelate the ion in the apo form of the protein.
To observe the impact of Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) on spontaneously hypertensive rats via bl... more To observe the impact of Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) on spontaneously hypertensive rats via blood pressure, serum calcium, vascular smooth muscle membrane L-type calcium channel alpha1 C subunit (CaL-alpha1C), plasma membrane calcium-ATPase (PMCA) mRNA expression, and the L-type calcium channel in vascular smooth muscle cells. Twelve-week-old male rats with spontaneous hypertension were divided into three groups: a Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) group (group 1), a nifedipine group (group 2), and a distilled water group (group 3). All were given a four-week treatment. Blood pressure and dissociative serum calcium were examined before treatment. Blood pressure was taken every week during treatment. Atomic absorption spectrometry was used to examine dissociative serum calcium. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction was used to examine the expression of CaL-alpha1C and PMCA1 mRNA. The patch clamp technique was used to examine the electrophysiological characteristics of the vascular smooth muscle cell calcium channels. After treatment, blood pressure of the Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) group lowered but not significantly (P > 0.05). Blood pressure of the nifedipine group lowered significantly (P < 0.05). Blood pressure of the distilled water group remained high. The concentration of serum calcium in the Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) and the distilled water groups lowered (P < 0.05). Expression of CaL-alpha1C mRNA in the nifedipine group decreased compared with the distilled water group (P < 0.01). There was the decreasing trend in the Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) group, but it was not statistically significant. Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) also had effects on the expression of PMCA1 mRNA but without statistical significance. However, there was a significant decreasing effect on vascular smooth muscle cell I(Ca)-L flow. This study indicated that Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) could increase serum calcium and decrease blood pressure. It may work by influencing calcium channels, expression of PMCA1 mRNA, and regulating ion calcium channels and calcium-ATPase.

The overall objective of the Liverbase is to provide a unique public resource for the liver community by providing comprehensive functional annotation of proteins implicated in liver development and disease. The central database features are manually annotated proteins localized in or functionally associated with human liver. In this first version of Liverbase, the associated data includes the human liver proteome (6788 proteins) and transcriptome (11205 significantly expressed genes: 10224 from CHIP and 5422 from MPSS, respecively) from the Chinese human liver proteome project (CNHLPP). As a database made publicly available through the Web site, Liverbase provides browsing and searching capabilities and a compilation of external links to other databases and homepages. Liverbase enables (i) the establishment of liver GO slim with 51 nonredundant items; (ii) systematic searches for proteins within specific functional or metabolic pathways; (iii) systematic searches that aim to find the proteins that underlie common and rare liver diseases; and (iv) the integration of detailed protein annotations derived from the literature. The removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using black carbon (BC) isolated from the burning r... more The removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using black carbon (BC) isolated from the burning residues of wheat straw was investigated as a function of pH, contact time, reaction temperature, supporting electrolyte concentration and analytical initial Cr (VI) concentration in batch studies. The effect of surface properties on the adsorption behavior of Cr (VI) was investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS) and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The removal mechanism of Cr (VI) onto the BC was investigated and the result showed that the adsorption reaction consumed a large amount of protons along the reduction of Cr (VI) to Cr (III). The oxidation of the BC took place concurrently to the chromium reduction and led to the formation of hydroxyl and carboxyl functions. An initial solution pH of 1.0 was most favorable for Cr (VI) removal. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second order equation and Freundlich isotherm very well. The Cr (VI) adsorption was temperature-dependent and almost independent on the sodium chloride concentrations. The maximum adsorption capacity for Cr (VI) was found at 21.34 mg/g in an acidic medium, which is comparable to other low-cost adsorbents.
In China, as the economy is developing and the population is expanding, some underground building... more In China, as the economy is developing and the population is expanding, some underground buildings have been used as supermarkets, restaurants and entertainment places. Tunnels in mountains are one type of underground building, and the radon ((222)Rn) level in tunnels is an important issue. Radon levels in different type tunnels appear to differ, and relatively higher levels of (222)Rn are associated with particular types of bedrock. The (222)Rn levels in tunnels in five different geological characteristics were analyzed. Those built in granite had the highest (222)Rn levels with a geometric mean (GM) of 280Bqm(-3), while those built in limestone (GM: 100Bqm(-3)) and andesitic porphyry (GM: 96Bqm(-3)) were lower. The sequence of (222)Rn concentrations was: granite>tuff>quartz sandstone>limestone>andesitic porphyry, and the (222)Rn in granite was statistically significantly higher than in limestone and andesitic porphyry. Tunnels built in granite, tuff, quartz sandstone, limestone tended to have higher (222)Rn concentrations in summer than in winter, while the reverse tendency was true in andesitic porphyry tunnels. Only the difference in limestone was statistically significant.

Local context was defined as the occurrence of a short predictive series of stimuli before delivery of a target event. EEG was recorded in 12 subjects during auditory and visual sessions. Stimuli were presented in the center of the auditory and visual field and consisted of 15% targets (1000 Hz tone or downward facing triangle) and 85% of equal amounts of three types of standards (1500, 2000, and 2500 Hz tones or triangles facing left, upward, and right). Recording blocks consisted of targets preceded by either randomized sequences of standards or by sequences including a three-standard predictive sequence signaling the occurrence of a subsequent target event. Subjects pressed a button in response to targets. Peak target P300 (P3b) amplitude and latency were evaluated for targets after predictive and nonpredictive sequences using conventional averaging and a novel single-trial analysis procedure. Reaction times were shorter for predictable targets than for nonpredicted targets. P3b latency was shorter for predicted targets than for nonpredictive targets, and there were no significant P3b amplitude differences between predicted and random targets, as determined by both conventional averaging and single-trial analysis. Comparable effects on amplitude and latency were observed in both the auditory and visual modalities. The results indicate that local context has differential effects on P3b amplitude and latency, and exerts modality-independent effects on cognitive processing.
Intumescent flame retardant thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) composites were prepared to study the ... more Intumescent flame retardant thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) composites were prepared to study the relationships between their structure of charred layer (including of the multicellular intumescent layer and the charry layer) and flame retardant properties. They were characterized using the LOI and UL-94 test, which indicated that the best fire retardant behavior (V-0 rating and LOI reach to 28.1%) was obtained at the formulation of TPO/ammonium dihydrogen phosphate/starch (100/60/ 20). Thermal gravimetric analysis demonstrated that the presence of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate/starch promoted the esterification and carbonization process in lower temperature range while enhancing the thermal stability of intumescent flame retardant TPO in high-temperature range. Scanning electron microscope and optical microscope were shown that, with combustion time prolonged, the intumescent layers obtained greater number of cells, and the charry layer became more compact while the size of the carbon granules became smaller on the surface. Introduction of starch had an obvious effect on the structure of the intumescent and charry layers. The charry layer of the composites with the content of 20 phr starch was more compact and uniform than that of the composites with 50 phr. The weight ratio of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate to starch in the intumescent flame retardant was fixed as 3 : 1 which cooperated with each other well to promote a compact charry layer and to obtain the better flame retardancy performance. Therefore, the better the charred layers produced, and the better flame retardant properties they obtained.

However, the use of SR with stress echocardiography to determine the ischemic myocardium has not been completely investigated. The present study aimed to determine the changes in systolic function of the ischemic myocardium by strainrate imaging (SRI) with adenosine stress echocardiography. Methods Stenosis and complete occlusion of coronary arteries were produced in 11 canine models by constricting the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD). Myocardial longitudinal strain with adenosine was measured at baseline and during ischemia and infarction. Results Strain and SR did not differ during ischemia and infarction as compared with that at baseline in non-LAD segments or after adenosine treatment. As compared with baseline, during ischemia, LAD segments showed significantly decreased peak systolic SR (SR peak sys ) (P < 0.05) and significantly increased ratio of postsystolic strain (e ps ) to strain during ejection time (e et ) (e ps /e et ) (P < 0.05); e max and e et were reduced slightly, e ps and the ratio of e ps to maximal systolic strain (e max )(e ps /e max ) were increased minimally, but had no significance(P > 0.05). During infarction, the e ps and the ratios of e ps /e max and e ps /e et were increased markedly (P < 0.01) and e et and SR peak sys decreased as compared with that at baseline and during ischemia, whereas e max was reduced only with at baseline (P < 0.01). After adenosine treatment, in the non-LAD segments, the values of strain and SR did not change at baseline or during ischemia and infarction and in LAD segments, values did not change at baseline and during infarction. However, during ischemia, SR peak sys and e et were significantly reduced (P < 0.05), whereas e ps , e ps /e max and e ps /e et were increased (P < 0.05 and < 0.01, respectively). Conclusion Combined with adenosine stress echocardiography, SRI can quantitatively differentiate the ischemic from non-ischemic myocardium. e ps /e max and e ps /e et can be used as objective indices to identify the ischemic myocardium.

The AWG-based OCDMA E/D with high power contrast ratio between auto-/cross-correlation can significantly suppress the interference noises in an asynchronous OCDMA system without using ultralong optical codes and optical thresholder. A 12-user 10.71-Gb/s asynchronous OCDMA experiment has been successfully demonstrated to transmit ITU-T G.709 OTN frames including FEC.
Eight heavy metals, namely Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cd, Ni, Pb and As, in nine varieties of edible vegetab... more Eight heavy metals, namely Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cd, Ni, Pb and As, in nine varieties of edible vegetable oils collected from China were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) after microwave digestion. The accuracy of procedure was confirmed by certified reference materials (GBW10018 and GBW08551). The relative standard deviations were found below 10%. The concentrations for copper, zinc, iron, manganese, nickel, lead and arsenic were observed in the range of 0.214-0.875, 0.742-2.56, 16.2-45.3, 0.113-0.556, 0.026-0.075, 0.009-0.018 and 0.009-0.019 lg g À1 , respectively. Cadmium was found to be 2.64-8.43 lg/kg. In general, iron content was higher than other metals in the investigated edible vegetable oils.

A novel approach involving the preparation of biodegradable PLGA microspheres containing entrappi... more A novel approach involving the preparation of biodegradable PLGA microspheres containing entrapping complexes of DNA and polyethylenimine was developed to improve the delivery of DNA into antigen-presenting cells after intramuscular injection. Compared to the traditional biodegradable microspheres which release naked DNA, these microspheres released intact and penetrative PEI/DNA complexes over a period of 2 weeks in vitro. In addition, the DNA was not degraded during encapsulation in the PLGA microspheres, owing to the protection of polyethylenimine. After i.m. immunization, the microspheres induced significantly enhanced serum antibody responses 2-3 orders of magnitude greater than naked DNA. Additionally, in contrast to naked DNA, the microspheres induced potent CTL responses at a low dose.
By using solid-state nuclear detectors, the air radon concentrations at 87 underground working pl... more By using solid-state nuclear detectors, the air radon concentrations at 87 underground working places were measured during spring, summer and winter, respectively. The survey covered 23 cities whose annual radon concentrations range from 14.9 to 246.4 Bq • m -3 with an overall arithmetic mean value of 106.7 Bq • m-3. The average annual effective dose received by people working in these underground working places was 1.6 mSv, hence the lifetime fatality risk was 1.2 × 10 -4. Fujian Province had the highest radon level during the survey. It is better to reduce the radon concentration heavily in summer because of higher radon concentration than in winter.
Based on sodium trititanate whisker as support particles, the surface ion-imprinted polymer (S-II... more Based on sodium trititanate whisker as support particles, the surface ion-imprinted polymer (S-IIP) was synthesized for the selective adsorption of Co(II) ions from aqueous solution. Characterization of S-IIP was achieved by FTIR spectra and SEM micrographs. Kinetic properties were successfully investigated by the pseudo-first-order model and pseudo-second-order model, and a chemisorption process as the essential adsorption step was also proposed. Equilibrium data were fitted with the Langmuir, Dubinin-Radushkevich and Freundlich isotherm equations, and the maximum adsorption amount of monolayer saturation for S-IIP was 33.75 mg/g at 298 K. Moreover, dimensionless separation factor R L (R L ＜1.0) indicated a highly favourable adsorption system between Co(II) ions and S-IIP. Selectivity experiments showed that selective adsorption of Co(II) ions for S-IIP was significantly higher than that of non-imprinted polymer (NIP).
Microwave heating initiated suspension polymerization was developed to prepare 2-amino-4nitrophen... more Microwave heating initiated suspension polymerization was developed to prepare 2-amino-4nitrophenol (4-NAP) magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (mag-MIPs) with magnetic wollastonite composites as support, resulting in much shorter polymerization time and better particle morphology. Mag-MIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Static adsorptive experiment was applied to investigate the adsorption property and selectivity of the mag-MIPs. The results of the equilibrium rebinding experiments and the selective adsorption experiments showed that these imprinted polymers, not only display excellent affinity and selective ability to the 4-NAP, but also exhibited good superparamagnetic to an external magnetic field. Applied as a sorbent, the imprinted sorbent was used for the determination of 4-NAP in a mixture solution by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).

There was the decreasing trend in the Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) group, but it was not statistically significant. Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) also had effects on the expression of PMCA1 mRNA but without statistical significance. However, there was a significant decreasing effect on vascular smooth muscle cell I(Ca)-L flow. This study indicated that Shijueming (Concha Haliotidis) could increase serum calcium and decrease blood pressure. It may work by influencing calcium channels, expression of PMCA1 mRNA, and regulating ion calcium channels and calcium-ATPase.

The overall objective of the Liverbase is to provide a unique public resource for the liver community by providing comprehensive functional annotation of proteins implicated in liver development and disease. The central database features are manually annotated proteins localized in or functionally associated with human liver. In this first version of Liverbase, the associated data includes the human liver proteome (6788 proteins) and transcriptome (11205 significantly expressed genes: 10224 from CHIP and 5422 from MPSS, respecively) from the Chinese human liver proteome project (CNHLPP). As a database made publicly available through the Web site, Liverbase provides browsing and searching capabilities and a compilation of external links to other databases and homepages. Liverbase enables (i) the establishment of liver GO slim with 51 nonredundant items; (ii) systematic searches for proteins within specific functional or metabolic pathways; (iii) systematic searches that aim to find the proteins that underlie common and rare liver diseases; and (iv) the integration of detailed protein annotations derived from the literature. Liverbase also contains an external links page with links to other biological databases and homepages, including GO, KEGG, pfam, SWISS-PROT, and GNF databases. Liverbase users can utilize all these information to conduct systems biology research on liver.
The removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using black carbon (BC) isolated from the burning r... more The removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous solutions using black carbon (BC) isolated from the burning residues of wheat straw was investigated as a function of pH, contact time, reaction temperature, supporting electrolyte concentration and analytical initial Cr (VI) concentration in batch studies. The effect of surface properties on the adsorption behavior of Cr (VI) was investigated with scanning electron microscope (SEM) equipped with the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope (EDS) and Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The removal mechanism of Cr (VI) onto the BC was investigated and the result showed that the adsorption reaction consumed a large amount of protons along the reduction of Cr (VI) to Cr (III). The oxidation of the BC took place concurrently to the chromium reduction and led to the formation of hydroxyl and carboxyl functions. An initial solution pH of 1.0 was most favorable for Cr (VI) removal. The adsorption process followed the pseudo-second order equation and Freundlich isotherm very well. The Cr (VI) adsorption was temperature-dependent and almost independent on the sodium chloride concentrations. The maximum adsorption capacity for Cr (VI) was found at 21.34 mg/g in an acidic medium, which is comparable to other low-cost adsorbents.

Tunnels in mountains are one type of underground building, and the radon ((222)Rn) level in tunnels is an important issue. Radon levels in different type tunnels appear to differ, and relatively higher levels of (222)Rn are associated with particular types of bedrock. The (222)Rn levels in tunnels in five different geological characteristics were analyzed. Those built in granite had the highest (222)Rn levels with a geometric mean (GM) of 280Bqm(-3), while those built in limestone (GM: 100Bqm(-3)) and andesitic porphyry (GM: 96Bqm(-3)) were lower. Local context was defined as the occurrence of a short predictive series of stimuli before delivery of a target event. EEG was recorded in 12 subjects during auditory and visual sessions. Stimuli were presented in the center of the auditory and visual field and consisted of 15% targets (1000 Hz tone or downward facing triangle) and 85% of equal amounts of three types of standards (1500, 2000, and 2500 Hz tones or triangles facing left, upward, and right). Recording blocks consisted of targets preceded by either randomized sequences of standards or by sequences including a three-standard predictive sequence signaling the occurrence of a subsequent target event. Subjects pressed a button in response to targets. Peak target P300 (P3b) amplitude and latency were evaluated for targets after predictive and nonpredictive sequences using conventional averaging and a novel single-trial analysis procedure. Reaction times were shorter for predictable targets than for nonpredicted targets. P3b latency was shorter for predicted targets than for nonpredictive targets, and there were no significant P3b amplitude differences between predicted and random targets, as determined by both conventional averaging and single-trial analysis. Comparable effects on amplitude and latency were observed in both the auditory and visual modalities. The results indicate that local context has differential effects on P3b amplitude and latency, and exerts modality-independent effects on cognitive processing.
Intumescent flame retardant thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) composites were prepared to study the ... more Intumescent flame retardant thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) composites were prepared to study the relationships between their structure of charred layer (including of the multicellular intumescent layer and the charry layer) and flame retardant properties. They were characterized using the LOI and UL-94 test, which indicated that the best fire retardant behavior (V-0 rating and LOI reach to 28.1%) was obtained at the formulation of TPO/ammonium dihydrogen phosphate/starch (100/60/ 20). Thermal gravimetric analysis demonstrated that the presence of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate/starch promoted the esterification and carbonization process in lower temperature range while enhancing the thermal stability of intumescent flame retardant TPO in high-temperature range. Scanning electron microscope and optical microscope were shown that, with combustion time prolonged, the intumescent layers obtained greater number of cells, and the charry layer became more compact while the size of the carbon granules became smaller on the surface. Introduction of starch had an obvious effect on the structure of the intumescent and charry layers. The charry layer of the composites with the content of 20 phr starch was more compact and uniform than that of the composites with 50 phr. The weight ratio of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate to starch in the intumescent flame retardant was fixed as 3 : 1 which cooperated with each other well to promote a compact charry layer and to obtain the better flame retardancy performance. Therefore, the better the charred layers produced, and the better flame retardant properties they obtained.

However, the use of SR with stress echocardiography to determine the ischemic myocardium has not been completely investigated. The present study aimed to determine the changes in systolic function of the ischemic myocardium by strainrate imaging (SRI) with adenosine stress echocardiography. Methods Stenosis and complete occlusion of coronary arteries were produced in 11 canine models by constricting the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD). Myocardial longitudinal strain with adenosine was measured at baseline and during ischemia and infarction. Results Strain and SR did not differ during ischemia and infarction as compared with that at baseline in non-LAD segments or after adenosine treatment. As compared with baseline, during ischemia, LAD segments showed significantly decreased peak systolic SR (SR peak sys ) (P < 0.05) and significantly increased ratio of postsystolic strain (e ps ) to strain during ejection time (e et ) (e ps /e et ) (P < 0.05); e max and e et were reduced slightly, e ps and the ratio of e ps to maximal systolic strain (e max )(e ps /e max ) were increased minimally, but had no significance(P > 0.05). During infarction, the e ps and the ratios of e ps /e max and e ps /e et were increased markedly (P < 0.01) and e et and SR peak sys decreased as compared with that at baseline and during ischemia, whereas e max was reduced only with at baseline (P < 0.01). After adenosine treatment, in the non-LAD segments, the values of strain and SR did not change at baseline or during ischemia and infarction and in LAD segments, values did not change at baseline and during infarction. However, during ischemia, SR peak sys and e et were significantly reduced (P < 0.05), whereas e ps , e ps /e max and e ps /e et were increased (P < 0.05 and < 0.01, respectively). Conclusion Combined with adenosine stress echocardiography, SRI can quantitatively differentiate the ischemic from non-ischemic myocardium. e ps /e max and e ps /e et can be used as objective indices to identify the ischemic myocardium.

The AWG-based OCDMA E/D with high power contrast ratio between auto-/cross-correlation can significantly suppress the interference noises in an asynchronous OCDMA system without using ultralong optical codes and optical thresholder. A 12-user 10.71-Gb/s asynchronous OCDMA experiment has been successfully demonstrated to transmit ITU-T G.709 OTN frames including FEC.
Eight heavy metals, namely Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cd, Ni, Pb and As, in nine varieties of edible vegetab... more Eight heavy metals, namely Cu, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cd, Ni, Pb and As, in nine varieties of edible vegetable oils collected from China were determined by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry (GF-AAS) after microwave digestion. The accuracy of procedure was confirmed by certified reference materials (GBW10018 and GBW08551). The relative standard deviations were found below 10%. The concentrations for copper, zinc, iron, manganese, nickel, lead and arsenic were observed in the range of 0.214-0.875, 0.742-2.56, 16.2-45.3, 0.113-0.556, 0.026-0.075, 0.009-0.018 and 0.009-0.019 lg g À1 , respectively. Cadmium was found to be 2.64-8.43 lg/kg. In general, iron content was higher than other metals in the investigated edible vegetable oils.

A novel approach involving the preparation of biodegradable PLGA microspheres containing entrappi... more A novel approach involving the preparation of biodegradable PLGA microspheres containing entrapping complexes of DNA and polyethylenimine was developed to improve the delivery of DNA into antigen-presenting cells after intramuscular injection. Compared to the traditional biodegradable microspheres which release naked DNA, these microspheres released intact and penetrative PEI/DNA complexes over a period of 2 weeks in vitro. In addition, the DNA was not degraded during encapsulation in the PLGA microspheres, owing to the protection of polyethylenimine. After i.m. immunization, the microspheres induced significantly enhanced serum antibody responses 2-3 orders of magnitude greater than naked DNA. Additionally, in contrast to naked DNA, the microspheres induced potent CTL responses at a low dose.
By using solid-state nuclear detectors, the air radon concentrations at 87 underground working pl... more By using solid-state nuclear detectors, the air radon concentrations at 87 underground working places were measured during spring, summer and winter, respectively. The survey covered 23 cities whose annual radon concentrations range from 14.9 to 246.4 Bq • m -3 with an overall arithmetic mean value of 106.7 Bq • m-3. The average annual effective dose received by people working in these underground working places was 1.6 mSv, hence the lifetime fatality risk was 1.2 × 10 -4. Fujian Province had the highest radon level during the survey. It is better to reduce the radon concentration heavily in summer because of higher radon concentration than in winter.
Based on sodium trititanate whisker as support particles, the surface ion-imprinted polymer (S-II... more Based on sodium trititanate whisker as support particles, the surface ion-imprinted polymer (S-IIP) was synthesized for the selective adsorption of Co(II) ions from aqueous solution. Characterization of S-IIP was achieved by FTIR spectra and SEM micrographs. Kinetic properties were successfully investigated by the pseudo-first-order model and pseudo-second-order model, and a chemisorption process as the essential adsorption step was also proposed. Equilibrium data were fitted with the Langmuir, Dubinin-Radushkevich and Freundlich isotherm equations, and the maximum adsorption amount of monolayer saturation for S-IIP was 33.75 mg/g at 298 K. Moreover, dimensionless separation factor R L (R L ＜1.0) indicated a highly favourable adsorption system between Co(II) ions and S-IIP. Selectivity experiments showed that selective adsorption of Co(II) ions for S-IIP was significantly higher than that of non-imprinted polymer (NIP).
Microwave heating initiated suspension polymerization was developed to prepare 2-amino-4nitrophen... more Microwave heating initiated suspension polymerization was developed to prepare 2-amino-4nitrophenol (4-NAP) magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (mag-MIPs) with magnetic wollastonite composites as support, resulting in much shorter polymerization time and better particle morphology. Mag-MIPs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). Static adsorptive experiment was applied to investigate the adsorption property and selectivity of the mag-MIPs. The results of the equilibrium rebinding experiments and the selective adsorption experiments showed that these imprinted polymers, not only display excellent affinity and selective ability to the 4-NAP, but also exhibited good superparamagnetic to an external magnetic field. Applied as a sorbent, the imprinted sorbent was used for the determination of 4-NAP in a mixture solution by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
