Squaduary 2020 Complete - Relictors Devastator Squad w/ Heavy Bolters

Hello All, and a special hello if you are a Squaduary Squaddie coming to check up my progress. Well, as the tile says - I finished my Squad! Yep, not as numerous as some pledges and only 5 Marines, but the extra large weapons/packs and a unique Sergeant mini made this as challenging/time consuming - I am a slow painter!
Squaduary is a hobby event run through February and is run by Stepping Between Games blog, many thanks to Thousand Eyes who plows through the interwebz and Instagram for the Squaduary pledges and pools them together - it was motivational as always seeing the progress of other hobbyists get their squads together! Well done all Squaduary Squaddies!
Here is the squad's Sergeant, a Finecast Captain of the Relics, from the Chapter Masters set, I head swapped and added a Signum Backpack and a Chainsword. Armed with his trusty Combi-Plasma, he can challenge those with impervious heavier armour who stray into range of the Heavy Bolters and don't get cut down.
The mini is a great stand-in for a Veteran Sergeant for a Devastator Squad, his pad already comes with a Devastator Chevron. His pose is a bit too static to be a Captain, so demotion to a Sergeant gets him on the field of battle!
As the bond-studded pad without a green trim doesn't allow the 4th Company markings, I added a green stripe to the Chainsword to link in with the rest of the Squad's 4th Company colours.
The first two of the troopers, I love the Devastator's helmet with the metal plate, and a 3rd party Bionic Leg replacement - obviously a Plasma Cannon veteran before the accident...
And the other two Troopers, standard Devastators from the set. Coincidentally the piles of brass shell casings come with the kit too.
Here is a final shot from different angles, you can see on the far right the veteran bionics and the extra ammunition stowage on the backpacks - I guess the whole backpack is a feed mechanism to the belt, as well as the normal power armour suit functions.

Another successful Squaduary, thank-you all and see you next year! It's good to get the final squad of Devastators finally off the painting table queue and onto the battlefield, and such an iconic weapon selection, Heavy Bolters and a Chainsword.

Relictors Devastators w/ Heavy Bolters - Squaduary Week 3

Hello one and all, and a special hello to any Squaddies from this year's Squaduary. So, after some slow progress and a week lacking any significant goals, Storm Dennis gave me the opportunity at the weekend to stay indoors and get some paint down.

This chap (above) is the Master of the Relics, a finecast Captain however now re-purposed and rearmed with a Chainsword, his static pose and extra bling make him an ideal Sergeant for these Devastators. Armed with a Combi-Plasma, he can deal with any heavier armour straying into range of the massed Heavy Bolters.
And progress has advanced somewhat with his charges, all troopers now have their main bodies and bases complete, just the heads and armaments to go really - back on track and should have these completed in time for the end of Squaduary.
Squaduary is a hobby event organised by the chaps at Stepping Between Games Blog and runs every February to get that Squad that's been sitting around for too long finally finished and off the to-do pile!

Cheers, Siph.

Its that time of year - Squaduary 2020 - Relictors Devastators w/ Heavy Bolters

So, my calendar year has two hobby community highlights I partake in, October "Dreadtober" and February's "Squaduary" - and its February so it's time I grabbed something that has been sitting around on the painting desk for all too long and got it finished!
Squaduary is run by Stepping Between Games blog, Thousand Eyes plows through the interwebz and Instagram for the Squaduary pledges and pools them together. Thanks mate!
Last year I completed a Vanguard Squad of Skitarii for my growing AdMech army.
The year before was a Squad of RTB01 Beakie Marines.
And the year before that it was the first squad of RTB01 Beakie Marines.
So, with the continued chipping away with my Devastators I bought in 2016, I've completed all the weapon variant squads to date with the exception of the arguably most iconic weapon - the Heavy Bolter Squad!
Here is where I am up to with my pledge. Time to get these done!

Cheers, wish me luck. Siph.

Relictors Space Marine 4th Company - Devastators Squad w/ Multi-Meltas

Hello All, thanks for dropping by in our humble corner of the blogosphere, I have recently finished another squad of 4th Company Devastators that have been cluttering up the painting desk for too long! The Lascannon Devastators were finished in September last year,  and from the same boxes the Grav Cannon Devastators from June 2016! (i said it was too long!) And I still have the Heavy Bolter Squad to do on the painting pile still!
I love the look of the Sergeant, the backpack Signum was actually from the Company Captains set in finecast, I think the actual Captain of the Relics which is cool as we are Relictors! And that particular Captain will be finding himself demoted as a Sergeant of the Heavy Bolter Squad soon.
I've used third party bionic legs for one of these troopers, the Multi-Meltas from several boxes of Devastators, and the shoulder Pauldron trim is marked out in the Company colours for 4th Co., green.
I've used the extra-stabilised Devastator legs throughout these squads, and I chose a MKIII Helmet for one of the troopers as I had it painted and laying about - it was originally for a Veteran before I remembered my Veterans have bone-coloured helmets, so this Devastator gained a relic piece of wargear.
The power cables were in green to match power cables across the entire army, and I marked out the three indicator LEDs on the rear of the powerpacks to signify the level of charge - some 3 green, others 1 green and 2 red. The design of these backpacks really reminds me of Ghostbusters for some reason!
The Sergeant also gained a Combi-Grav as he will find himself in harms way with the short range of the squads guns, and the inevitable 'command-hand' pointing at the next target, I slew the Signum targeters to align with where he is pointing too. His Pauldron displays a Marksmen award Bolt Shell.
The Sergeant's right Pauldron proudly displays his name and the squad's name "Vorf", a nod to part of my profession meaning 'vertical offshore reference frame' but makes a unique Sergeant's name, Squad Vorf reporting for duty!

Cheers for reading this far, thanks, Siph. (5pts)

Relictors Space Marine 4th Company - Devastator Squad w/ Lascannons

Hello All, thanks for dropping in. It was about time I continued with some of my Space Marine to-do list as it is a long one (just check out the to-do list!) and I have had part built Devastator Squads sitting on my desk to complete since 7th...oh my, two years ago. I managed a squad of Grav Cannon Devastators when they were good, okay OP, now just good. HERE. Now I thought it was time to do some of the other weapons as I had bought 4 boxes to get all the Grav Cannons!
As I had long ago exhausted the ranks of my 5th Company with two full 10 man squads of Devastators already, my expanding forces are made up of the 4th Company, hence the green Company colour trims on his pauldrons. Lascannon Devastators will be sitting back killing tanks from afar, so a basic armed Sergeant with Bolter and Signum - requisite pointy arm - "Kill that there!"
The kneeling support Lascannons, usually associated with Missile Launchers due to the set of legs that came in the old Tactical Squad box, but it makes sense to brace for an accurate shot from distance, the newest Devastator Squad set comes with a set of kneeling legs - all the legs have crenelated wide greaves with in-built stabilizers.
The two standing Lascannon troopers, one with a braced foot on some rubble. I love the look of the Lascannon in general, no idea why it's taken me so long to complete a squad, Lascannons rock in 8th!
Every Tank Commander's nightmare to come face to face with these as an enemy!
Yes the Sergeant is still pointing, "Vapourise it!"
And it was pleasing to see that even after two years break from doing Devastators, okay Oct 2018 I last finished something Relictors grey, but, my painting style and finish is consistent. The Grav Sergeant has more elaborate armaments due to the short range of Grav Cannons, and a well placed few extra Grav shots can't hurt (will hurt!)

Thanks for checking out my latest offering to the painting Gods, must get some more Relictors done and ask GW if I can now have Relictors Primaris as I keep seeing them but the fluff says we are Excommunicate - so something is wrong or changed... cheers, Siph. (5 painting points)

Warhammer 40K can be wonderfully weird - Armorium Cherubs

Hello All, thanks for dropping by on this wonderfully weird element of 40K. My latest addition to my Relictors Chapter Space Marines are these delightful characterful Armorium Cherubs, available to Devastator Squads to allow a weapon to immediately fire again in the same shooting phase.
What I find wonderfully weird is the odd juxtaposition of an adorable baby, albeit mechanically lobotomized and made to 'fly' and the war torn grim darkness of 40K. I love it, odd flying babies supplying your troops with extra ammo to murder death kill more of the Emperor's enemies :)
This chap was from the Space Marine Heroes character set Librarian, I thought the Librarian looked too busy so I chopped him off, gave him a Melta Charge and changed his third eye to a metal stud.
This chap is unaltered, the standard Cherub you get in a box of Space Marine Devastators.
And here they are on the battlefield, the skin was a simple Kislev Flesh washed Reikland Flesh Shade and highlighted Kislev Flesh.
This chap was the standard Armorium Cherub but altered with some spare Missiles and reposed slightly to give some variation.
I quite enjoyed giving them all wide eyes and the bases were my normal recipe of Mournfang Brown, drybrushed Karak Stone and Ushabti Bone, with some tufts and mixed green flock added for detail.
And here is one of the chappies with his Devastator Squad, supplying more Missiles in the heat of battle. The squad is my converted FW Iron Armour Squad, modified to add two modern missile launchers, more pict captures HERE.

Thanks for checking out my wonderfully weird flying baby things. Cheers, Siph. (3 points)

Relictors Space Marine 4th Company Devastators Squad w/ Grav Cannons

Hello Good Readers, hope you are well. Here is my latest offering, I got these Devastators with Grav Cannons and Grav Amps ready for the massive battle we had at Warhammer World a few weeks ago, with the exception of a few details and the heads, so hot on their success in Imperial Knight slaying, I finished them.
The Sergeant received his Combi-Grav, so with the Grav Cannons and Grav Amps for re-roll, this squad puts out 23 grav shots if stationary (or Relentless in an Skyhammer Annihilation Force) with a damage re-roll of 20 of those for getting those glancing Sixes! Almost guaranteed to kill a Landraider or Termie Squad - but at a cost point premium, this squad costs more than those said targets when fully kitted out. But, in that Skyhammer, this is a great Alpha Strike, otherwise a points sink. When I am not using the Skyhammer, I'll farm out the Grav Cannon marines to various Tactical Squads in games.
Here's the Sergeant, I like the 4th Company green trims to the pauldrons, a change from the majority of my Relictors 5th Company black trimmed black pads, just seen that I missed the Sergeant's gun casing Aquila, doh, have to quickly fix that.
I added two stripes to the Chainsword and a green 4th Company Knee Pad for a touch of colour as the accent colour I usually use on the weapon casings in bone is missing from these Devastators - I was up against the time pressures of getting them ready for Warhammer World, so the bone went - but I like the different scheme - marks them different from the mass of 5th Company marines.

Right, next up for the Relictors painting pile - Bikes, maybe something rather shooty which has been languishing in the closet of doom for years... and a lot more Devastators - my aim is for another Grav Cannon 5-man Squad for an effective Skyhammer Annihilation Force alpha strike, plus I want a squad of 4 Heavy Bolters for the rule of cool - they look awesome - so much dakka. And then maybe some Lascannons, Multi-Meltas... the Devastator box comes with more weapons than you can use, so I had to buy a Tactical Squad just to use the bodies as Devastators!

Thanks for reading.

Relictors Centurion Devastator Squad Finished

Finally I have finished the other squad members of the Relictors Centurion Devastator Squad. These models have grown on me quite a bit and were fun, although took ages, to paint. They are packed with details and an part constructed methodology I think is best. I constructed the body, legs and arms as one piece, guns, pipes, head, both sets of shoulder guards, groin armour and pistons separately.

I've also added an Aquila above the Sergeant's head to give him some more height when compared to the other two. That was not there in the last post about him. I think they look good together, somewhat better than I was expecting - they don't scream 'teletubbie' Marines to me anymore!
Here is the two remaining troopers in all their freshly painted glory. I think I did a good job on the Grav-Amp lens, again these are packed with detail, I was even tempted to use some of the spare honour markings in the box to cover the one remaining knee armour on the right-hand marine! But, instead, I left at least one armour plate bare.
Thanks for stopping by. Right, where is that Stalker tank... should only take as long as one of those did!?
