Genestealer Cult - Brood Brothers Heavy Weapons Team w/ Mortars

Hello Readers, thanks for dropping by. My latest addition to the insidious Cult is another Heavy Weapons Team, this time armed with Mortars for some juicy indirect fire. These add to the weapons the Genestealer Cult bring, a Lascannon Team painted last year.
These were also found on eBay and fit in nicely with my Cult. I repainted them all except the fatigues which had a nice cookie camouflage in the same base colours as my Kommando Khaki fatigues.
I added some GSC upgrade frame bits and pieces, the icon on the Vox Caster set, the communication head. Here you can see the Imperial insignia has been replaced on the right shoulder armour with a Cult Insignia.
These have a Cult knife and grenade set on the waist (can't see)
These have a head swap, a Cult Knife set and an icon on the Mortar.

Genestealer Cult - Brood Brothers Infantry Squad #3

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. Here is something overdue I hadn't yet posted I already was working on!

My last offering from my scheduled posts whilst I was away, but shunted for Warlord#10 progress posts, and the last of my 2022 #HobbyBingo tasks completing the challenge. These are Imperial Guard (Astra Militarum) Cadian Shock Troops with the Genestealer Cult upgrade sprue bits, mostly heads and a few ceremonial knives.
The Heavy Weapons Team have some 3D party autoguns to add to the vibe of mixed up reserve cult forces and was going to be a whole squad of ten autoguns but they took ages to convert and the rules for Brood Brothers will probably not allow the alternative, just Neophytes that can. I will just play as Lasgun if needed!
The first four troopers, the Sergeant and two have Cult Upgrade heads and the fourth has a helmeted head with sunglasses as the genestealer strain makes the eyes sensitive.
The next four also use the Cult upgrade sprues and an icon on the Vox set.
You see the upgrades I added on the reverse, and the Cult Icon daubed on the shoulder pads. I used the spare empty helmets on the Heavy Weapon sprues so the unhelmeted have the correct rig.
So, as much as I am slowly growing the Cult, the Brood Brother contingent is quite large with some extreme heavy support in form of the ancient Armorcast resin Baneblade I had commissioned in 2020 and a Squad of Rogue Trader Guardsmen from 2019 that can be found (Here). And the original Vraks Planetary Defence Force troops from 2009, converted to Brood Brothers in 2018 which match the latest recruits very well which I was pleased about.
My completed #HobbyBingo

Genestealer Cult - Brood Brothers Heavy Weapons Team w/Lascannons

Hi All, thanks for dropping by. I recently saw some Astra Militarum, Imperial Guard on eBay which would fit in nicely with my Cult. I repainted them all except the fatigues which had a nice cookie camouflage in the same colours as my Kommando Khaki fatigues.
I thought some Lascannons would give my growing Cult some needed punch and anti-tank, and also a useful backfield camping squad. I love the idea of Brood Brothers being twisted brainwashed unfortunate Guardsmen now fighting for the Four Armed Emperor...
Team 1 - the red is Chaos Red washed Nuln and highlighted Evil Sunz Scarlet
Team 2 - obligatory pointing hand
Team 3 - fixed bayonets when a Lascannon just doesn't cut it...
And here you can see the eBay auction result and my repainting side-by-side. A lovely addition to the growing insurgency Cult.

Genestealer Cult - Brood Brother Heavy Weapons Squad - WIP

Hello All, thanks for dropping by. A random departure from what I was intending to paint, but oh well, paint when you want and enjoy it I say. Got an eBay rescue squad of Heavy Weapons in a similar scheme, even had same squad number as my original Brood Brothers Squad, however wrong shoulder and wrong shade of red armour - so repaint initiated!
As can be seen in the photo, I kept the fatigues, everything else was repainted and I even drilled the Lascannon barrel and added some basing material where it was thinning.
The camouflage fatigues were the only thing to stay, I repainted the armour and metals and base and everything really - but it was a good price for three Lascannon Teams and some Mortar Teams too.
Added a Cult Knife to the Brood Brother to make less Imperial Guard and more tainted. The shoulder flashes were given a new squad/company number from my foot troops and the other shoulder a cult insignia where there should be an Aquila.
A nice little addition to the insidious Cult, two more bases to go.
Whilst I was at it I looked in the Codex and saw that the Brood Brothers as well as a Heavy Weapons Team attached could have 2 special weapons, and my Original Squad only had a single Flamer, so I wrenched off this chaps arms and added a Flamer from my Bitz...
The scheme was easy to replicate
Sometimes you just have to paint what you want... not the to-do pile scheduled Custodes...

Cheers, Siph

Genestealer Cult - Rogue Trader Era Brood Brother Squad #2

Hi All, thanks for dropping by. I picked up an eBay lot of old school Rogue Trader era Imperial Guard (Astra Militarum) with arms and weapons which was a great find. I sold the spares and with the remaining squad and weapons I made a Brood Brothers Squad with Heavy Weapons Team for my fledgling Genestealer Cult.
The old figures only came with 25mm slotta bases, so I cut off the foot tab on two of them and mounted on a newer large base. The Heavy Weapon is a Rogue Trader era Lascannon. The Sergeant was armed with a modern Chainsword, I also cut off a few heads and added ones from the Genestealer Cult Upgrade Sprue.
This is the second half of the squad, again one head swap completely changes the way the model looks, all ten have identical sculpts, only the weapons and arms are plastic and vary, plus the two modern head swaps.
I also added signs of their twisted allegiance to the Four Armed Emperor with Cult Knives from the Genestealer Upgrade Sprue. This is similar to what I did with my ex-Cadian Sqaud too.
Here is a closer look at the corrupt Sergeant, the arm and chainsword is a Cadian plastics arm whilst the Las Pistol is an original RT era one. I added a Genestealer Icon to the chest badges where the old Imperial Guard used to display Company and Platoon numbers and Colours.
The Heavy Weapons Team with old school Lascannon and modern sand bag. It's quite hard to see that these are both the same metal torso/legs/head metal sculpt.
The modern head swaps - it did feel bad chopping up a classic miniature, but the result was these two I am rather pleased with, the angle of the head totally changes the pose of the miniature, again identical metal sculpts.
And with comparison to the Cadian Brood Brother Squad I already have, this is both fallen Sergeants. The original squad was called Neophyte Hybrids before the latest Codex changed the Imperial Guard Squads to Brood Brothers, to differentiate between the Hybrid Plastics and the Cadian Plastics.
And a quick look-see on the painting process, basecoat of Zandri Dust, washed Agrax then Drybrushed Karak Stone. Then the red areas were blocked in, painted Abaddon Black before Khorne Red with a Nuln Oil wash and Evil Sunz Red highlight. The flesh was Kislev Flesh washed Purple to look more infected/alien.

Thanks for dropping in, Cheers, Siph. (10 painting points)

Genestealer Cult - Brood Brothers Squad #1 - Infected PDF Troops

Hi All, long time readers of this humble blog may remember these guys from 2009... some of my first miniatures, originally painted as a Vraks PDF Squad but I was never going to have time or inclination for a whole IG/AM army, so these languished on the side lines in the display cabinets until GW had the great idea of infected Planetary Defence Forces in the Genestealer Cult! Boom! I can use these guys, and the uniform colours match my chosen Hivefleet Kraken reds and beiges.
Now sporting their new livery and allegiance to the true Emperor, the Four Armed Emperor, they will see light of day as a Cult Neophyte Hybrid Brood Brothers Squad, armed with Lasguns, Flamer, a Bolt Pistol wielding Sergeant and the Vox Operator can now be sporting a Cult Icon!
Here is a closer look at the first five, I paled the faces from the original scheme and added a purple sickly hue. I used the Genestealer Cult Upgrade Sprue to add subtle GC icons and changed a few heads - the respirator head of the Flamer Guy comes without filter canisters - no doubt poor research by GW on how 'Gas Masks' work... so I added two canisters on the inlet valves, the front facing outlet valve is for voice.
Here is a shot showing the new additions, Cult Icons, head swaps and I deleted the Aquila from the shoulder guard and added a coiled serpent GC symbol in its place! I see these troops defacing their kit in honour of their new allegiances so they are varied and hand drawn.
The five other troopers (ahem... Brood Brothers) are armed with Lasguns, where the scabbard has been replaced with a cult knife, I also removed the Bayonet, the others are correctly armed with bayonets and empty scabbards, such was my stickler to detail back in 2009...
Here's a shot showing their new allegiance, Cult icons, knives and grenades and I hollowed out a head I removed and placed the helmet on the belt of the bandana Neophyte Brood Brother. And of course defaced shoulder guards sporting GC symbols.

Subtle changes, but now I would be happy to field these as Neophyte Hybrids Brood Brothers, not just Counts-As. I hope you agree. I can field these along side the captured Leman Russ Battletank and the Armoured Sentinel. Cheers for looking, and thanks, Siph. (5 painting points for this squad, significant time and effort is rewarded)
