For its focal points this text takes (a) the least form of state-mandated automobile insurance in... more For its focal points this text takes (a) the least form of state-mandated automobile insurance in Michigan, the no-fault policy; plus (b) the notoriously unaffordable cost to consumers of no-fault insurance in Detroit; plus (c) the low-ball estimate that 50% of motorists whose vehicles are registered in Michigan's urban areas drive without auto insurance, as compared to 16% statewide; plus (d) Detroit is the largest urban city in Michigan, Detroit also happens to be the largest U.S. city in which a majority of the population identifies as Black. With these four focal points set briefly in context, I have sought to evaluate Michigan's no-fault law in terms of its disparate impact to the detriment of Black Americans.

It has been traditionally considered a mode of authoritative privileged access to knowledge about oneself and it is often used colloquially in an ambiguous sense to denote a wide range of phenomena. These include knowledge of internal system states, perceived sensory data, selfreflective observations of behavioral patterns, selfascribed preferences (and similarly, opinions) for the purpose of social assimilation, selfdifferentiation, and the coordination of action and intention in personal behavior.
