Phoebe Barnard
I work at the intersection of science, society, sustainability strategy, policy, planning and media storytelling. I'm a biodiversity conservation biologist, global change ecologist, sustainable futures strategist and film co-producer: campaign director of the Global Evergreening Alliance, founding CEO of the Stable Planet Alliance, Affiliate Full Professor at University of Washington, Affiliate Researcher at the University of Cape Town's African Climate and Development Initiative and FitzPatrick Institute, and co-producer at Transmediavision USA. From 2018-2021 I was Chief Science and Policy Officer with the Conservation Biology Institute, and from 2017-18 Executive Director, Pacific Biodiversity Institute and Senior Consultant to the Center for Large Landscape Conservation to advance the IUCN's global policy work on ecological connectivity conservation. From 1994-2003 I developed and led award-winning national biodiversity and climate programmes for the Government of Namibia, and from 2003-2016 I ran global and national initiatives in invasive species science, global change ecology, and citizen science in the pursuit of better public policy, planning and management at the Global Invasive Species Programme and South African National Biodiversity Institute, respectively.
