AVA Centurion Challenge – WE DID IT!!!

BadgeBeth and me at lunchIMG_0835Challenge Cover and Book Walks 81-100We finished the Centurion Achievement Challenge on November 29th with a walk in Bothell followed by lunch!

We started the challenge with the New Year’s Day walk on Alki Beach.Walk 1 - 1-1c.jpgWhere did we go in between? Just for a few statistics. Although we could have completed the challenge by doing the same walk 100 times, at first, I wanted to complete 100 different walks, but soon lowered that goal to 90. Ninety-one of my 100 walks were different walks and most of them were 10 km walks.

I walked in:

  • 6 different countries, 5 European and the USA
  • 2 different states, Oregon and Washington
  • 11 different counties in Washington
  • 22 different towns/cities in King County
  • 25 walks in Seattle

Enough statistics! Here are some of my favorite walks.
Two different countries. I covered the walks I did in Europe and in January-June in earlier posts so won’t go over those again.

Two different states. One of my favorite places to go to relax is Lincoln City on the Oregon coast. What better way to relax then to go for a walk?! While I was there this summer, I did three AVA walks,  one in Depoe Bay, the  worlds smallest natural navigable harbor, DSC00992DSC00993DSC00999and another on the beach in Lincoln City. The fog rolled in and out as I walked along the beach. DSC01003DSC01004DSC01011DSC01022DSC01030DSC01041I then drove north to Rockaway Beach and did the town walk near the beach.DSC01062DSC01064DSC01065DSC01066On my way back from Rockaway Beach, I stopped to see the Cape Meares lighthouse, not an official walk, but interesting just the same.DSC01099DSC01070DSC01075Eleven different counties in Washington. While most of our walks were in King County, Washington, we did travel north into Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom County. Near Bellingham, we walked through the Bloedel Donovan Park. One of my favorite places is the Nisqually Wildlife Refuge near Olympia.DSC00833DSC00776DSC00777A small bird was building it’s nest in the end of a broken branch.DSC00779DSC00780DSC00788DSC00789DSC00797DSC00801DSC00806Yes, the Mountain was almost out!DSC00807DSC00822At times, a club will sponsor a multi-day event where you can choose from several different walks. My favorite multi-day event this year was held in the area around Othello in Adams county, one of the four Eastern Washington counties included in our walks. Sage brush, grasses, and rocks greeted us as we headed out for the walk.
