The effect of using low-cost materials on the system performance is evaluated. Based on the Manzanares pilot plant (MPP), a 3D CFD model was created. Geometric parameters were kept constant in simulations performed with ANSYS FLUENT engineering commercial software. In addition to DO (discrete coordinates) for the radiation model, the solar ray-tracing algorithm (SRTA) and the RNG k-e turbulence model (RNGTM) were solved, coupled, and the outputs of the system were evaluated at outdoor temperatures of 290 and 300 K. The temperature and velocity distributions, as well as power outputs (PO) of the system by using Bayburt stone and basalt as ground material, are compared for different outdoor temperatures and solar radiation conditions. The heat transfer characteristics of the working fluid passing through the absorber of a solar pa... more The heat transfer characteristics of the working fluid passing through the absorber of a solar parabolic trough collector (SPTC) can be enhanced by the creation of a turbulence effect. Therefore, a novel idea was implemented by introducing a corrugated tube (CT) absorber instead of a plain tube absorber in a solar parabolic trough collector. The heat transfer enhancement was improved further through the use of conical strip inserts inside the corrugated tube absorber of the SPTC. A corrugated tube (CT) receiver with a pitch of 8 mm and corrugation height of 2 mm was used with three different pitches of conical strip inserts (pitch pi = 20 mm, 30 mm and 50 mm) for the analysis of the thermal performance of the SPTC. In this work, the impact of the serpentine copper tube heat exchanger with nanofluids on 100 W so... more In this work, the impact of the serpentine copper tube heat exchanger with nanofluids on 100 W solar photovoltaic thermal collectors (PV/T) was analyzed experimentally and numerically. The cooling fluids assessed in this system were distilled water, Al2O3 0.1%, and Al2O3 0.2% based nanofluids. Tests were accomplished at diverse coolant mass flow rate in India’s summer days of 2018. A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) investigation was carried out to perform a parametric study, identify surface and exit T profiles, and examine the cooling effectiveness. The impact of mass flow rate of nanofluid on the outside T and Reynolds number were studied. The Reynolds number obtained in the flow experiments and CFD analysis was in the range of 900–1,300. This work presents the impact of single, double, triple and quadruple window glazing of four glass materials such as clear, bronze, green and bronze- reflective on heat gain in buildings. The solar thermal properties of the four glass materials were measured experimentally using Perkin Elmer lambda spectrophotometer. The climatic data of four climatic zones of India such as Hot and dry (Ahmedabad), temperate (Bangalore), warm and humid (Bombay) and composite (New Delhi) were considered for the study. The cement plastered burnt brick building walls with reinforced cement concrete roof and dense concrete floor were designed using Design builder and thermal simulations were carried out in Energy plus for heat gain in buildings. An unventilated air gap of 10 mm was maintained between the pane layers. Sixty four building models were simulated in four different window orientations such as East, West, North and south. The buildings located in composite climatic conditions with single, double, triple and quadruple bronze-reflective glass placed in the South orientation gain 41.54, 40.18, 39.55 and 39.19 kWh of heat, respectively. From the results it is observed that the heat gain in buildings decreases with the increase in the pane glazing layers. The bronze-reflective window glass materials with single, double, triple and quadruple glazing are found to be energy efficient among all window glass materials studied. The results of the study help in designing energy efficient building fenestration.

In général clear and bronze glass was used as a main building envelope for both residential and commercial buildings to provide better day lighting into the buildings. If we use more glass area as a building envelope more radiation allows into the buildings. So that it is necessary to reduce more solar radiation and provide sufficient daylight factor inside the building's through glass windows with the help of external devices called shading devices. In this work four shading devices was tried on bronze glass window to find the heat gain and daylighting into buildings. This paper presents the experimental measurement of spectral characteristics of bronze glass which include transmission and reflection in entire solar spectrum region (300nm-2500nm) based on ASTM standards. A MATLAB code was developed to compute visible and solar optical properties as per the British standards. A building model was designed by design builder software tool. 40% window to wall ratio was considered for building models, thermal and day lighting analysis of buildings through windows was carried out in Energy plus software tool for hot and dry climatic zone of India.

This numerical study focuses on the influence of lightweight aggregate in the concrete for the heat gain in the building due to the sun’s radiation. Four lightweight aggregates, such as gravel, stalite, lytag, leca and argex were selected for inclusion in concrete and silica fume where it was added to the mortar. Transient thermal characteristics subjected to regular thermal excitation were solved using the admittance method through a computer simulation program. From the result, it is observed that argex concrete wall showed a better thermal performance with a higher time lag (6.218 h) and a lower decrement factor (0.5051). Mortar with silica fume showed a better thermal performance than a mortar with a higher time lag (0.60 h) and a lower decrement factor (0.991).
