This graphic memoir offers a unique narration of the political and societal lives of Kashmiris through the creative deployment of an anthropomorphic metaphor. This study shows how Sajad graphically reflects the dominant ideology and dissident discourses in these panels.

Based on the occurrence of the socio-culturally rich Indian elements, four major native contexts were identified, namely core-native context, socially interactive context, native narrative context, and native situational context. The texts selected for the purpose include Kanthapura, The God of Small Things, and The Hungry Tide. The various devices chosen for the purpose of analysis include Indian lexical items, code-switching and code-mixing, structural and stylistic deviations, and translation of Indian expressions – words, proverbs, idioms, verses, songs, etc. The analysis of these devices in the textual background shows that in the given contexts, the native language elements can only best communicate the native ideas and expressions.

Entrepreneurship also involves practices beyond mere wealth-creation. However, the dominant entrepreneurial discourses linked to the neo-liberal economy and related modes of production leave little space for alternative interpretations of entrepreneurship. Thus, new entrepreneurial discourses, especially those built upon the idea of sustainable and inclusive development, are required to stimulate social change. Ecological Entrepreneurship (EE) is an offshoot of the concept of ecological modernization linked to the idea of sustainable development of the 1990s. This article uses a broad range of literature and case studies to discuss some of the key drivers of the discourse of ecological entrepreneurship. The role of ecological communication in promoting eco-entrepreneurial action and discourse is analyzed. Agency issues with relation to the faster promotion of the discourse of ecological entrepreneurship are discussed. The objective is to forward the transformative discourse of ecological entrepreneurship that can prepare a roadmap to green social economy.

By engineering a one-axis twisting Hamiltonian enabled by the resonator-mediated interactions, the system of qubits initialized coherently evolves to an over-squeezed, non-Gaussian regime, where atomic Schrödinger cat states, i.e., superpositions of atomic coherent states including GHZ state, appear at specific time intervals in excellent agreement with theory. With high controllability, we are able to take snapshots of the dynamics by plotting quasidistribution Q-functions of the 20qubit atomic cat states, and globally characterize the 18-qubit GHZ state which yields a fidelity of 0.525 ± 0.005 confirming genuine eighteen-partite entanglement. Our results demonstrate the largest entanglement controllably created so far in solid state architectures, and the process of generating and detecting multipartite entanglement may promise applications in practical quantum metrology, quantum information processing and quantum computation.

These strategies have traversed from real life situations to creative writings to social networking domains and are dominant in bilingual or multilingual societies for multifarious reasons. While majority of the research was conducted in the spoken form from the real-life contexts, a few were directed towards the written forms in literary genres and computer-mediated communication. However, a significant gap becomes noticeable and needs to be explored in Indian English fiction where creative writers have dexterously used these communicative strategies. Keeping the above in mind, the present paper attempts to analyze the role of these strategies in indigenous interpersonal communicative contexts in Indian English fiction. The text chosen for this purpose is Arundhati Roy's TheGod o Small Things and the analysis is based on the grammatical and pragmatic explanation of indigenous words which mostly belong to the area of interpersonal communication. The study shows how the author has skillfully used these strategies to unravel the indigenous cultural and social customs and mindset of the people within a particular indigenous community as well as the role-relationship between the interlocutors in a particular communicative context.

The Ramification of Shakespeare's Hamlet as Karmayogi: Reflecting the Cultural Traces of Post-Colonial Kerala

This quality of humanity along with adaptability and flexibility of Shakespearean plays makes them friendlier to be transformed into any genre. His plays have thus been widely adapted, interpreted and appropriated as movies the world over. The current research article tries to analyze how the tragic play Hamlet has been re-contextualized in the Indian (Malayalam) film, Karmayogi, to suit the Post-colonial Indian backdrop. The research article also explores the projection of the Orient exotic culture as far more superior to that of its Occidental counterpart. To highlight this cultural superiority of Orient over the Occident, the film has been enriched with local exotic traditions of Kelipathram and Poorakkali of Kerala. Simultaneously, the article also portrays the alterity between the scenes of original, Occidental metanarrative Hamlet and the exotic, Orient Karmayogi.

Philosophers and scientists alike have tried to answer the puzzling questions on human consciousness. Consciousness can be considered as the most familiar yet the most mysterious aspect of human lives. Human consciousness is often the outcome of what we see and what we perceive. The colors that we see around us can have a great impact on our moods and feelings. Color Psychology studies how hues determine human behavior, moods and feelings. In literary texts, especially in the autobiographical ones, authors have tried to express their self, identity, consciousness and their mental and physical beings through symbols and binarisms. The dichotomies in the society in which one lives affect the existence of the individual. Binary opposites are considered as 'western construct'. French anthropologist Levi Strauss, who is considered as the father of modern anthropology, proposed the theory of binary opposites and spoke about how books and media use binary opposites to strengthen their plot, develop narratives and bring about contrasts. Han Kang in her semi-autobiographical novel, The White Book, has extensively used the color 'white' to express her moods, feelings, memories and thoughts. White is a color that comprises of all the other colors in the color spectrum. The white color is usually associated with peace, purity and hope. On the contrary, it also symbolizes death, detachment, disinterest and dryness. This dichotomy is used very beautifully throughout the novel. The current paper thus tries to deconstruct the binarisms of the color white as used in the novel, The White Book. The paper also tries to examine how color psychology affects human behavior and consciousness.

The ecologists have raised a huge concern regarding the depletion of river water in India. The drying, depletion, and disappearance of the rivers in India can be traced back to the Indus Valley Civilization. The ecological disturbance on land resulted in the loss of the Saraswati River. Amish Tripathi is a renowned figure in the realm of popular Indian mythological fiction. He has not only re-narrated the mythology of India but has also retold the history and geological reasons for the disappearance of the Saraswati River in his novel The Oath of Vayuputras (2013). The research article views the novel from a deep eco-critical perspective to examine the rationale behind the drying and depletion of the Saraswati River due to the destructive production and disposal of Somras and its toxic waste in the river. The article aims at showing the ecological disturbance in the biosphere which ...

The paper attempts to identify and analyze the kinds of literary techniques used in Indian English fiction and how through the use of these techniques, the writers have tried to sustain the native culture in the setting of the novel. The tools chosen for analysis include translated proverbs, songs and religious verse and the methodology preferred for this purpose is narrative methodology. The analysis of these devices in the textual background shows that in the Indian English fiction, the native culture in the setting of the novel can best be sustained by the use of native elements.

Northeast India is one of those few places in the world, where matrilineal culture is still practiced. In Meghalaya, one of the northeastern states, the practice of matrilineality has been in existence for almost 2000 years among a few tribes. Khasi, Jaintia and Garo, the earliest ethnic communities of Meghalaya appear to be homogenous ones, as the youngest daughter becomes the custodian of the ancestral prospects. This practice where the womenfolk become the custodians of the cultural and natural artifacts has strong parallels in the theory of ecofeminism. By employing ecofeministic perspective to read the matrilineal culture of the tribes, the paper aims to make a parallel study on the ethnic women’s affinity towards nature. Ecofeminism celebrates the robust connect between women and nature and asserts that women serve as the ...

The filmic adaptations, in particular, have recontextualized the original dramatic text in several innovative ways. This paper sets out to analyse from certain postmodern angles the creative and innovative adaptation of a classic literary text from a Scottish setting to two completely different Indian settings (geographically, culturally and politically) and also from 16th century Scotland, United Kingdom to two different time periods in India – Maqbool (director Vishal Bhardwaj, 2003) being a reimagination of Macbeth set in the 21st century underworld of Mumbai, India and Veeram (director Jayaraj, 2016) being an attempt to link the play with 13th century Kerala, India. The transmutations occur at multiple levels and this lends new interpretations to the text in two entirely different temporal and spatial contexts, though ...

Shakespeare’s works stand to the test of time due to their intrinsic quality of life-likeness as Arthur Koestler comments that life-likeness is regarded as the supreme criterion of art. Shakespeare’s works and films project the reality of human life. The universality of his works has motivated the film producers to adapt Shakespeare extensively in their films in different regions, nations and contexts. The adaptation of the literary text into filmic interface involves major creative restructuring between the original text and the filmic medium. The restructuring of the adaptation involves shift in the medium, genre, context and culture to suit the differences in area and medium. The director of a film needs to be highly creative to adapt a literary text to make a film. Vishal Bhardwaj is one such contemporary prolific film makers who have successfully adapted Shak...

terms of face negotiation in one of the short stories of Jhumpa
Lahiri, ‘A Temporary Matter’. The methodology for analysis is
taken from Face Negotiation Theory of Stella Ting-Toomey (1985).
Ting-Toomey’s face negotiation model discusses face-work in
conflict situations; it also provides an insight of various face
strategies during conflict situations in interpersonal contexts. The
story ‘A Temporary Matter’ deals with the communication
breakdown between a young, educated Indian immigrant-couple
residing in the US. The protagonists, Shoba and Shukumar, struggle
to cope up with an unfortunate miscarriage which has wrecked
their conjugal life. A distance is created between them as a result of
this uncertain incident which leads to their avoidance of each
other. However, the protagonists take initiatives to confront each
other and share their unspoken grief over the loss of their child.
They choose to shed their ego and compromise with their grief
together. The compromise communication style through the act of
sharing has helped the couple to retain the strength of their
relationship and thereby bringing a positive change in terms of
politeness. The analysis reveals that in interpersonal interactions;
during conflict, face negotiation demands an extra ‘mindfulness’ on
the part of the participants. Free and healthy communication is
taken as the base of effective face negotiation. Also, the selection of
appropriate conflict styles and face strategy is considered
necessary for face negotiation.
