Synthesis and characterization of the dinuclear polyhydrides [Os(2)H(7)(PPh(i)Pr(2))(4)](+) and [Os(2)H(6)(PPh(i)Pr(2))(4)]

The dinuclear osmium polyhydride [Os(2)H(7)(PPh(i)Pr(2))(4)][HC(SO(2)CF(3))(2)] (1) was synthesiz... more The dinuclear osmium polyhydride [Os(2)H(7)(PPh(i)Pr(2))(4)][HC(SO(2)CF(3))(2)] (1) was synthesized by the protonation of [OsH(6)(PPh(i)Pr(2))(2)] with bis(trifluoromethylsulfonyl)methane. Treatment with amine bases was not able to deprotonate 1, but reaction with potassium hydride gave the corresponding neutral polyhydride [Os(2)H(6)(PPh(i)Pr(2))(4)] (2). Single crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that 1 and 2 both crystallize in the P2(1)/c space group and are classical polyhydrides containing similar Os(mu-H)(3)Os cores with Os-Os distances of 2.5431(1) A and 2.5448(2) A, respectively. These structures represent rare examples of dinuclear osmium polyhydrides with six or more hydride ligands.

The syntheses of the first platinum complexes with η 2 -bicyclopropylidene ligands are reported h... more The syntheses of the first platinum complexes with η 2 -bicyclopropylidene ligands are reported herein. Complexes of the formula [Pt(L)(PÀP)] (L = η 2 -bicyclopropylidene, η 2 -methylenecyclopropane, PÀP = Ph 2 P(CH 2 ) 3 PPh 2 , Cyp 2 P(CH 2 ) 2 PCyp 2 , t Bu 2 P(CH 2 ) 2 P t Bu 2 , t Bu 2 PCH 2 (o-C 6 H 4 )-CH 2 P t Bu 2 ) were synthesized by addition of the free alkene to ethene precursor complexes. Bicyclopropylidene underwent a ring-opening reaction with both Pt(0) and Pt(II) complexes to form allylidenecyclopropane, and the first allylidenecyclopropane complexes were synthesized, some of which underwent a rearrangement to form η 2 :σ 2 -metallacyclo-3-pentene complexes. Mixed alkene complexes [Pt(C 2 H 4 )(L)(PR 3 )] (L = η 2 -bicyclopropylidene, η 2 -methylenecyclopropane, PR 3 = PPh 3 , PCy 3 ) and bismethylenecyclopropane complexes [Pt(MCP) 2 (PR 3 )] (PR 3 = PPh 3 , PCy 3 ) were synthesized by the addition of the free alkene to bisethene precursors.

In the title compound, [Pt{Ph2P(CH2)3PPh2}2]Cl2·5CHCl3, the Pt(II) cations, located on a centre o... more In the title compound, [Pt{Ph2P(CH2)3PPh2}2]Cl2·5CHCl3, the Pt(II) cations, located on a centre of inversion, is coordinated by two chelating diphosphane ligands in a geometry which is close to square-planar. The chelate rings adopt a chair conformation. The Pt(II) cations are arranged in layers separated by Cl(-) anions as well as CHCl3 solvent mol-ecules. While this complex has been reported previously [Anderson et al. (1983 ▶). Inorg. Chim. Acta, 76, L251-L252], this is the first time a structure has been determined.
