At Vale, we use robots and autonomous trucks to increase operational safety; we transport minerals in vessels equipped with rotor sails that harness wind power to reduce carbon emissions; 100% of the electricity used in our operations in Brazil comes from renewable sources; we help protect a forest area equivalent to one million football fields; and we have committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

As we advance the transformation of our operations, we produce minerals that support electrification, the expansion of renewable energy, the growth of digital infrastructure, and technological innovation worldwide.

Built around the concept "If it's essential to you, it has to do with Vale," the initiative shows how minerals such as nickel, copper, and iron ore are present in everything — from household items to the technologies driving the global energy transition.
To broaden society's understanding of mining's strategic role in the present and future. The campaign demonstrates that producing minerals goes beyond extracting natural resources: it is an essential part of industry decarbonization, transportation electrification, and the digital infrastructure that connects people around the world.
Because minerals are the foundation of the technologies that make the transition possible. Nickel is indispensable for the batteries that store renewable energy and power electric vehicles. Copper is essential for digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence systems. Iron ore is the starting point for briquettes — a solution developed by Vale that can reduce CO₂ emissions in steel production by up to 10%, with no water usage.
The campaign rests on three pillars: energy transition, decarbonization, and technological innovation. These are future trends that depend on mining and guide concrete Vale practices, such as the use of 100% renewable electricity in mining operations in Brazil since 2024, the operation of ships powered by rotary sails to reduce maritime transport emissions, and the use of robots and autonomous vehicles to improve operational safety.
Through practices already in operation: 100% renewable energy in mining operations in Brazil; ships powered by rotary sails that cut carbon emissions; support for the protection of an area equivalent to one million football fields of forest; and a commitment to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050, among others.
The campaign is available at vale.com/essencial and will run throughout 2026 on free-to-air and cable TV, streaming platforms, digital media, out-of-home advertising, and social media, structured across four phases over the course of the year.

Após cerca de 20 anos de pesquisas, a Vale anuncia uma nova solução para a indústria siderúrgica: o “briquete verde”, que pode reduzir em até 10% as emissões de CO2, além de dispensar o uso de água em sua produção. 

O objetivo: encontrar formas mais eficientes e sustentáveis de produzir minério – um material presente em praticamente tudo que sustenta a vida moderna.

Desde 2024 avançando na descarbonização das nossas operações 

Na Vale, desde 2024 a operação de mineração no Brasil passou a utilizar 100% de energia elétrica proveniente de fontes renováveis. Um avanço importante na redução das emissões e na jornada rumo à nossa meta de nos tornarmos carbono zero até 2050. 

Esse é um passo relevante para tornar nosso processo produtivo cada vez mais eficiente e com menor impacto ambiental.
