Socialisation is one of the key processes that shapes the identity of youth. This construct, whic... more Socialisation is one of the key processes that shapes the identity of youth. This construct, which over the last century has undergone significant transformation, became a pattern for determining the purposes of upbringing (Nature vs. Nurture), or interpretative model that is used to explain character of this process from a socio-cultural perspective. On the basis of ecological framework, the concept of resilience and positive psychology, in recent years it has been developed a new approach towards socialisation-Positive Youth Development (PYD). Because of its relevance, pragmatic assumptions, this model is worth examining in terms of teleology, epistemology and methodical context. According to the Ecological Systems Theory of Urie Bronfenbrenner the youth socialisation process is included in the micro, meso, exo and macro systems. While the socialisation process, youth experiences the interactions between these systems, which in consequence shapes its identity. An element that fits into a methodical context is the characteristic of chosen supportive, educational and preventive actions undertaken towards youth in the northeastern Poland.

The study qualitatively examined a group of bodybuilding youth from a subcultural perspective, vi... more The study qualitatively examined a group of bodybuilding youth from a subcultural perspective, viewing them as functioning in an environment of conflicting influences of a post-communist, lower class environment and those of capitalism, social advancement, and consumptionism. In the study, conducted in 2014 in a small town in north-east Poland still struggling with regression caused by the collapse of communism, 26 in-depth interviews were conducted; five cases were selected as best examples showing the specificity of the group’s norms, activities, and overall functioning. The study views bodybuilding as the foundation of a subcultural style; means for achieving peer respect, and a method of channeling emotions. At the same time, the activity provides a form of instant gratification through the ability to see the immediate effect of workout leading to distortions of self-image and the subjects' daily life which, in turn, cause a deferral in engaging in typical mandated adult roles and, instead, focusing on the subjects' role and position in their group of peers. Group dynamics and norms do not condone, and even facilitate, risky behaviors associated with the use of illegal pharmaceuticals that carry significant health risks. They also promote a self-image that inhibits social advancement as well as undervalues and is inconsistent with one’s true abilities and environmental conditions/opportunities. This study suggests that peer group subcultural styles remain a strong factor in shaping youth’s identity and values at the threshold of adulthood and should be considered as an important factor in planning drug and social preventive strategies.
The text examines the theoretical assumptions of the analysis and research of American sociologis... more The text examines the theoretical assumptions of the analysis and research of American sociologists and criminologists which describe the environmental determinants of juvenile delinquency. The interpretation of the term “environment” is focused on its spa- tial character. The various ways in which the term environment, and related terms (“local environment” and “educational environment”), can be defined are analyzed. In describing the criminal influences of an environment, references are made ranging from the Chicago School to the present day. Besides theoretical concepts other possible modes of ac- tion for prevention and rehabilitation that are to be carried out in the open environment are also presented.
Abstrakt: W tekście dokonano analizy założeń teoretycznych oraz wyników badań amerykańskich socjo... more Abstrakt: W tekście dokonano analizy założeń teoretycznych oraz wyników badań amerykańskich socjologów i kryminologów, w których starano się wskazać środowiskowe prawidłowości warunkujące niedostosowanie społeczne. W interpretacji terminu "środowisko" skupiono się na jego przestrzennym charakterze. Przeanalizowano sposoby definiowania terminu środowisko oraz terminów pokrewnych ("środowisko lokalne", "środowisko wychowawcze"). Analizując czynniki kryminogenne środowiska odniesiono się do wymiaru infrastrukturalnego od szkoły Chicago po współczesność. Poza koncepcjami teoretycznymi wskazano również możliwe sposoby działania z zakresu profilaktyki i resocjalizacji realizowane w środowisku otwartym.
