Hello. I am Kirk with The COM. It is The COM’s 8-year anniversary and lets look back at the journey. We owe all of it to our customers and as a special thanks we will be running a sale until February 7th the actual Anniversary date. Use coupon code “8years” to take 15% off all our products. The code is good until February 7th, 2025.
If you want to learn how The COM stared it is on our “About” page on our website. In this post we will look back down memory lane, take a sneak peak on how we came up with some of our ideas and talk about a product we really wanted to develop but the ROI was out of reach.
Our first idea that we never did get to market was to develop a combined radio intercom that was on a single circuit board. We wanted the radio and intercom to be simple to use and have a lot the features that our current COMsole has. We quickly discovered that there are so many 2-way radio choices and the red tape to get one of those on the market was too step for a startup company to overcome for a good ROI. But I think it was an interesting concept one that we closely achieved when we invented the COMsole.
The S2 was our first product that made it to market. I am sharing some photos of our initial prototypes as well as the finished product. The goal of the S2 was to make a plug and play communication system that is easy to install and had a lot of features into a little space. Please realize that neither Dustin or I had ever done anything like this previously. Despite some critics, the S2 was a huge success and is still the fastest radio / intercom install on the market.

We quickly realized that S2 was leaving out half the market. We needed an intercom that could support more than 2 headsets. We poured all our profits into R&D, on a fresh from the ground up stereo intercom. The stereo 4 seater or (S4S) was borne and still remains the only stereo intercom with 4 independent volume controls and can support up to 8 headsets on one intercom.
We didn’t stop there we quickly developed in-dash brackets for various machines but quickly realized that this is a hard battle to keep up with. We went back to our original concept and thought, “how can we make this happen?” Many months of design, trial and error we brought to the market the COMsole. Still our top seller and arguably the most innovative radio intercom on the market with its ability to fit 98% of all machines, ease of installation, (no cutting of the dashboard or removal of panels). The relatively quick and simple installation also allows our customers to remove the com when they are ready to trade up to a new SXS, helping our customers get a better ROI on their investment.
Again a special thank you to all our customers and those that made us who we are.
Respectfully,
TheCOM Family
