O Programa Agrinho, com o objetivo de atender a Agenda 21 de desenvolver programas de Educação Am... more O Programa Agrinho, com o objetivo de atender a Agenda 21 de desenvolver programas de Educação Ambiental, vem desde 1995 preparando e capacitando educadores e docentes para as questões ambientalistas em seus programas de formação continuada. Em 2012, seu programa de educação a distancia (EAD) foi consolidado e 196 turmas foram credenciadas nesta modalidade de ensino. Neste trabalho compartilhamos a experiência de um dos nossos cursos em EAD, que tem por objetivo uma pedagogia integradora e participativa, que propicia a formação de sujeitos críticos, reflexivos e atentos às questões ambientais através de uma metodologia que incentiva a interatividade e a construção de mapas conceituais.

Esta técnica tem o potencial de ativar o uso do conhecimento prévio, estimular o desenvolvimento linguístico, identificar concepções equivocadas. Ela promove uma aprendizagem ativa, significativa, colaborativa, interativa, investigativa, crítica e reflexiva.

ABSTRACT This chapter aims to investigate new ways of foreign-language teaching/learning via a st... more ABSTRACT This chapter aims to investigate new ways of foreign-language teaching/learning via a study of how concept mapping can help develop a student's reading, writing and oral skills as part of a blended methodology for language teaching known as LAPLI (Laboratorio de Aprendizagem de LInguas: The Language Learning Lab). LAPLI is a student-centred and collaborative methodology which encourages students to challenge their limitations and expand their current knowledge whilst developing their linguistic and interpersonal skills. We explore the theories that underpin LAPLI and detail the 12 activities comprising its programme with specify reference to the use of “concept mapping”. An innovative table enabling a formative and summative assessment of the concept maps is formulated. Also presented are some of the qualitative and quantitative results achieved when this methodology was first implemented with a group of pre-service students studying for a degree in English and Portuguese languages at the Catholic University of Parana (PUCPR) in Brazil. The contribution of concept mapping and LAPLI to an understanding of language learning along with a consideration of the difficulties encountered in its implementation with student groups is discussed and suggestions made for future research.

The act of doing research, reviewing recent literature, checking data, and articulating results a... more The act of doing research, reviewing recent literature, checking data, and articulating results and meanings are important but not enough when working with scientific publications in graduate schools. A vital part of the work is authoring an informative text that can be clear enough as to communicate findings of the study and, at the same time, reinforce chosen arguments. This chapter focuses on an experiment at a renowned Brazilian graduate school of education, which uses concept mapping and collective assessment of such maps as fundamental pre-writing stages to guide the authorship of well-thought, well-knit scientific/argumentative texts. Results indicate that the experiment was successful in making students negotiate meanings, clarify ideas and purposes, and write in an academically acceptable style. All this was conducted from a methodological standpoint that makes meaningful knowledge, collective construction, and the reflective, critical work of the author (from the first draft to the final collectively written version given), the foundations to perform a better job at communicating the processes and results of the investigative work.
