Fábio M Alkmin
I am a geographer with a Master's and PhD in Human Geography from the University of São Paulo (FFLCH/USP), and a project management MBA from ESALQ/USP. I have experience in the socio-environmental field, conducting research and consultancy on topics involving indigenous territories and processes of territorial autonomy on a Latin American scale.
I have completed research internships in the United Kingdom (2022, Queen Mary University of London/QMUL), Mexico (2021 and 2013, CIALC/National Autonomous University of Mexico), and Argentina (2010, National University of La Plata), and have also gained field experience in indigenous territories in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, and Guatemala.
I am the author of the book "For a Geography of Autonomy: The Experience of Zapatista Territorial Autonomy in Chiapas, Mexico" (Ed. Humanitas/Fapesp, 2017), and I am part of the research groups 'Rede DATALUTA' (Brazil), 'Latin American Geographies-UK' (United Kingdom), and 'Pueblos indígenas, autonomías y derechos colectivos' (CLACSO), where I co-organize the bulletin 'Autonomías Hoy: pueblos indígenas en América Latina'.
I have skills in geoprocessing/Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and also in the audiovisual field, having done professional work in documentary filmmaking (Sendero Filmes). My current area of interest is the Brazilian Amazon, particularly topics related to indigenous autonomies, environmental conservation, climate justice, and territorial conflicts involving indigenous peoples.
