This practice-based research focuses on the film Ínsula (Insular in English) to explore ways of c... more This practice-based research focuses on the film Ínsula (Insular in English) to explore ways of conducting, intertwining, and assembling performing bodies with audio-visual performance, through the creation of original dispositifs. It expands relations between different types of performance with cinematographic methodology and unique approaches to editing, to suggest a new term, “cine-performance,” centered on the action and modification of the performing body by the cinematographic apparatus. Performance is an embodied intervention in the world, an instrument for assembling / disassembling territories and languages, a visual and sound composition of the cinematic apparatus. Cine-performance is an expressive potential of the multiple compositions between bodily and audio-visual performance. This practice-based research aims to explore ways of conducting, intertwining and assembling perf... more This practice-based research aims to explore ways of conducting, intertwining and assembling performing bodies with audio-visual performance, through the creation of original dispositifs. It expands relations between different types of performance and cinematic production methods and editing, to suggest a new term, “cine-performance”, centered on the action and This combination of procedures presents a panorama of experiments and interventions across media. It breaks with causal relations between performance and how it is constructed in audiovisual terms - in terms of image and montage - and sites relevant productions from other authors and artists that examine intersections between the themes elucidated. Performance is embodied intervention in the world; an instrument for assembling / disassembling territories be repeated in a multimedia space alongside the projection of its embodied audiovisual image (live compositional montage). Cine-Performance is an expressive potential of the multiple compositions between bodily and audio-visual performance. Live performance is embodied in of the human body. This can be reassembled on a single screen, or by several arrangements on multiple screens. In summary, we propose the construction of a montage in spatial and temporal layers, which combines poetic potentialities between bodily and audio-visual performances. “Cine-performance” uses the language of cinema to expose the relationship between performance and its context in order to materialize in sound and image the most ephemeral and immaterial aspects of any action involving the body. And this relationship depends on a performing body that assembles a cinematic enunciation within the performance itself, which activates and calls upon cinematic genres to materialize an audio-visual work.
Esta dissertação se limita a registros de experiências e relatos documentais para evidenciar como... more Esta dissertação se limita a registros de experiências e relatos documentais para evidenciar como as novas tecnologias alteram a prática religiosa, e refletir sobre a ressignificação de imagens sagradas do candomblé quando transitam entre meios audiovisuais e seus processos. A pesquisa objetiva seguir por trajetórias de registros do corpo humano em transe por diferentes dispositivos em diversos meios eletrônicos, para reuni-los em uma exposição de fotografias, vídeo e documentário expandido em múltiplas telas e diversos espaços dentro de uma série de instalações. O estudo amplia fronteiras entre o registro documental do evento religioso e sua reconstrução dentro do espaço expositivo, criando teias de relações entre as linguagens do cinema, fotografia, artes visuais e antropologia em espaços arquitetônicos complexos para potencializar uma experiência imersiva e sensorial.

Este ensaio fotográfico cria um movimento paralelo entre a observação etnográfica e um arranjo fo... more Este ensaio fotográfico cria um movimento paralelo entre a observação etnográfica e um arranjo fotográfico políptico, a fim de alinhar fronteiras artísticas e antropológicas entre cosmogramas afro-brasileiros – pontos-riscados – e marcações aeroportuárias. Essas fotografias exploram semelhanças entre vocabulários visuais simbólicos que predominam em cosmogramas e sinais de aeroporto para criar linhas fuga entre estes espaços liminares. O texto e imagens convidam a imaginar formas inéditas de relacionar mundos diametricamente opostos: terreiro/aeroporto; transe/estar-em-trânsito; cosmografia/sinalização aeroportuária; cura/covid-19. E desta fusão abrir para múltiplas dimensões temporais que nos possibilitam deslocar e visionar por meio de uma manifestação artística-acadêmica.

Propositos de refletir sobre imagens sagradas do candomble quando transitam entre meios audiovisuais e seus processos. A pesquisa objetiva seguir trajetorias de registros do corpo humano em transe, por diferentes dispositivos em diversos meios eletronicos, para reuni-los em um documentario expandido em multiplas telas dentro de uma instalacao. O estudo examina as fronteiras entre o registro documental do evento religioso e sua reconstrucao dentro do espaco expositivo, criando teias de relacoes entre as linguagens do cinema, fotografia, artes visuais e antropologia em espacos arquitetonicos complexos para potencializar uma experiencia imersiva e sensorial.

Entre teoria e prática, este artigo apresenta uma análise da relação poética entre obras aut... more Entre teoria e prática, este artigo apresenta uma análise da relação poética entre obras autorais em vídeo e noções do sensível. Destaca uma série de quatro experimentações com `vídeo-performance` que transitam entre intervenções, vídeo-happening e performances audiovisuais. Se apoia na trajetória do autor do texto para desenvolver um olhar mais atento às diferentes fases - concepção, execução e recepção - de uma série de obras em vídeo que se inserem numa pesquisa teórico-prática centrada na questão deleuziana do “devir” e whiteheadiana de “concrescência”. Essa conjunção de procedimentos investigativos apresenta um panorama de como fluxos teórico-práticos entre a vídeo-performance e sua documentação e montagem podem deflagrar processos transformadores, inspiradores e que combatam a estagnação de um olhar viciado sobre enredos de vídeo-performance.

Como funcionam territórios rituais e de viagens inter- nacionais em termos de performatividade e... more Como funcionam territórios rituais e de viagens inter- nacionais em termos de performatividade e corporificação? E quando começa ou termina uma viagem em ambos destes lugares? Como é que símbolos geram “energia” para esses corpos viajantes à medida que eles atravessam estados liminais no cosmograma e aeroporto? Quando as viagens aéreas começaram, nos anos 50, foram rapidamente apelidadas de coquetéis sobre asas: famílias se arrumavam, pais vestiam suas melhores roupas, meninos davam nós em gra- vatas pela primeira vez. À primeira vista, aeroportos testam limites de corpos pois obrigam viajantes a se submeterem a uma longa procissão de controles de segurança, não inteiramente desprovidos da noção de liminaridade. Em seu livro sobre linhas, Tim Ingold faz uma distinção entre o dédalo (maze) e o labirinto (labyrinth). Nessa analogia, o aeroporto é o dédalo, com corredores demarcados por barreiras que obstruem qualquer visão além do caminho imediatamente à frente. Ele canaliza, desvia e finalmente confunde o viajante que pode facilmente chegar ao portão errado, ou pior ainda, ao terminal errado.

This article dicusses the creation process of the video-triptych MOONOVOSOL (MOONEGGSUN), produce... more This article dicusses the creation process of the video-triptych MOONOVOSOL (MOONEGGSUN), produced during a fortnight-long Video-Resi- dency at Galeria Mamute, in the southern Bra- zilian city of Porto Alegre. The residency set into motion a long held desire to bring film- makers and performance artists together. This article examines artistic strategies that created a cycle of experimentation, transformation and propagation of the audio-visual documentation of 6 performance-rites as re-formulated within a 3-screen dispositif, or video-body. The result- ing work, made in collaboration with Adriana Tabalipa and Andreia Vigo, is analysed in terms of Deleuze’s formulation of affective contam- ination.

It examines how sacred images in the African-Brazilian religion of candomblé are being re-signified in transit between different electronic and digital media. The research aims to chart the visual documentation of the human body in trance, generated by a wide variety of different devices, as it journeys through different media. The result of this study will generate an exhibition in which a documentary film will roam freely over multiple screens in a video-installation. The study wishes to expand the boundaries between the documentation of a religious event and its reconstruction within the exhibition space, exploring multi-tiered relationships between cinema, photography, visual arts and anthropology in complex environments, in order to maximize the potential of an immersive sensory experience.
No momento inicial de tomada de decisões frente a esta edição do Arte#ocupaSM 3 (2012), optou-se ... more No momento inicial de tomada de decisões frente a esta edição do Arte#ocupaSM 3 (2012), optou-se por contemplar que as obras apresentadas durante o evento poderiam ter como principal característica, a transformação no tempo e espaço/lugar. Esperávamos que os debates, encontros e os próprios espaços da cidade de Santa Maria interviessem nessas transformações, para assim criar obras situação-específicas ('situacionais'). Pensando em como captar essas modificações conceituais e materiais formamos um Núcleo de Documentação 4 , que contou com a participação de fotógrafos e videografistas.

A pandemia certamente criará uma nova lente para examinar e analisar a problemática espacial do p... more A pandemia certamente criará uma nova lente para examinar e analisar a problemática espacial do público e privado, criando uma nova percepção que precisará de um novo vocabulário para organizar ideias sobre eventuais reconfigurações espaciais. Este relato apresenta, em termos poéticos, notas sobre o processo de filmar e editar o filme “BEDECKED”, junto com frames e trechos da narração da obra final para assim apoiar a escrita académica ao processo de criação. O filme examina uma postura criminosa pré-Pandemia em que a urgência de problematizar espaços que privilegiam pessoas e grupos de pessoas em áreas públicas resultou numa série de incêndios que destruíram construções privadas na orla britânica. Foram ações criminosas que, junto ao filme, postulam uma necessidade pré-existente de questionar processos de exclusão e de exploração de espaços comuns para fins privados que a Pandemia poderá vir a exacerbar.
