Since tourism is a global industry, it is crucial to evaluate innovative activities in any segment of tourism. Nevertheless, a small number of innovation studies in tourism reveals a limited empirical evidence of the level of innovative activities and their impacts and implications to tourism destinations particularly museums. Innovative activities are indeed a management process which maintains the role of museums directors in occurring innovative activities. The potential of innovation in museums not only helps us to predict changes for future of museum but also plays a crucial role in establishing a relationship with tomorrow's museum-goers. This study aims to provide useful information for museums managers and should assist them in developing policies that promote innovation in the tourism sector. In this study all the relevant literatures were reviewed and the areas which innovation can be occurred were identified.

Banten's history has been influenced by various religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. It led to the unique creation of the architecture of the BGM in an area where religious, social and political activities have been upheld since the reign of the Sultanate of Banten until today. The Grand Mosque of Banten is listed as one of the ancient mosques in Indonesia, dating from 1552, built by Sultan Maulana Hasanud-din, the first Sultan of Banten, during the time of the spread of Islam. The research, employing exploratory qualitative investigation with the support of literature on Banten, was conducted to determine the influence of animism and Hinduism–Buddhism before Islam onto this architecture, ascertained during field surveys and interviews with relevant individuals. The various religious and cultural influences are closely linked with the philosophies found in design elements, especially in the design of the column stumps (umpak). The research findings portrayed the stages of meditation in Buddhism, reflected in the curves of the lotus form in the interior of the mosque. Interestingly, the basic shape of the roof of the mosque depicts the Islamic philosophical approach related to the level of the universe, which was previously known as a Hindu philosophical approach: a representation of Meru, the sacred mountain. The BGM exhibits an architecture that is rich with assimilated cultural understandings and heritage.

Flexibility characteristic is one of these new add. There are many types of flexibility according to the level of use. Interior design environment for small spaces is a new generation of interior design strategy. The idea of how willing to live within the limited space is an important problem faced by most of the users in how to furnish it to achieve uses economical, functional, and aesthetic needs. Identifying the role of interior design strategies is important for addressing those needs. There are important elements of design have special contribute to the optimal exploitation of compact interior space to reach users' needs. The main elements of design can be used to achieve human needs are flexibility and simplicity as a main mechanism to generate interior space, in order to achieve the requirements of function and design to be adapted success...

While there is considerable theoretical evidence that disorder is positively associated with fear of crime, the empirical literature on examining the indirect effect of the incivilities thesis is limited, especially in developing countries. The aim of this research is to examine the relationships between disorder, perceived risk and fear of crime by considering gender as a control variable. Results reveal that high disorder is positively associated with perceived risk and fear of crime. Likewise, there is a significant and indirect effect of disorder on fear of crime through perceived risk. Consistent with prior research, women perceived higher levels of disorder, perceived risk and fear of crime. The results provide empirical support for the incivilities thesis in the Malaysian context and indicates that the findings of the initial classic stu...

The interior design process addresses the users’ minds by implication and expression of effectiveness. The sense perception is a stage of mental perception, which ideas and meaning are moving from the designers’ mind to real material and meaning, which realized by the recipient’s senses. Recipient realized the ideas and meanings by matching process for what was realized with mental images, depending on the output format in the space. Recipients can adapt to the interior space according to the sensing process. This process adopted on the first skin elements, which uses the five senses to realize the space physiologically. The second skin or psychic skin adopted on the cognitive and mental image matching process. Using objects or shapes related to specific culture, function, brand, or designer in interior design processes should follow limited rules. The interi...

Questionnaire surveys and on-site observations were conducted on a sample of 320 residents from two neighbourhoods in Malaysia. Tests for invariance were conducted to determine whether coefficients differed across neighbourhoods. Confirmatory factor analytic models of the constructs exhibited adequate fit following multiple criteria within each and across samples. Results from these analyses suggested that the relationships between disorder and perceived risk, victimisation, and fear of crime were significant in both samples. Although high territoriality was associated with low-crime experiences in the low-crime area, no significant relationship was observed in the high-crime area. The findings illustrated the importance of examining territoriality and perceptions of disorder within the neighbourhood contexts.

Based on ethnographic research involving rural-urban migrants in Kuala Lumpur, the paper follows the narratives of moving and settling experience of Malay women from rural kampung (village) in Kedah who followed their spouse to live in Kuala Lumpur. Themes from a qualitative analysis of the narratives demonstrated the significance of transitional spaces like the halaman in the formation of social ties, protection of privacy, and in providing surveillance and safety.

Territorial functioning was measured on two dimensions: territorial attitudes and marking behaviour. In addition, perception of safety and fear of crime was also incorporated in the questionnaire based on the British Crime Survey. Police recorded Offence and Offender Data were used as an index of crime level. The survey involved 206 participants from three council estates in Sheffield, UK. The study reveals that victimization is associated with low territorial functioning. People who are more territorial were less likely to be victimised than their opposite counterparts.
