A researchermade questionnaire based on Fredrick Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene Theory supplemented with informal interviews were used to gather the perceptions of the research participants. This quantitative-qualitative study used purposive sampling to determine the eighteen teacher participants from the three private elementary schools. Using a weighted mean formula to interpret the data, findings revealed that motivational factors on the job are strong influencing factors responsible for teachers' retention. Despite the low salary they received, the participants chose to stay because they felt satisfied in other areas. Truly, intrinsic motivational factors are stronger forces that instill teachers' loyalty to the school. This is in congruence with Herzberg Theory which states that the higher the motivational factors, the greater the percentage of worker's retention.

Additionally, the study aimed to find out whether there is a significant difference in the mathematical performance of public school learners who were taught using Cebuano as MOI compared with private school learners who were taught using English as MOI. Anchored on Common Underlying Proficiency Theory of Cummins, Meaningful Verbal Learning Theory of Ausubel and other related studies, this research sough to know how the language affects mathematics learning. The design used is a causal comparative between two elementary schools, one private and another public. Purposive sampling was used to get the top twenty learners from each class who were chosen as research participants. Using arithmetic mean, standard deviation, t-test and z-test formula, data were statistically treated. The findings revealed that the level of mathematics achievement of the learners of both private and public schools were higher using English rather than their mother tongue, Cebuano. Findings also revealed a significant difference in the performance of both groups of learners in the two types of questionnaires. Furthermore, no significant difference was found between the performance of private school learners compared to the public school learners. Thus, it can be concluded that the medium of instruction affects the comprehension of the learners in mathematical problem.

Likewise, this study sought to find out the common journal errors of the students with the hope of designing instructional modules to improve the students' written ability. Error analysis method was used in this study. The journal entries of the total population of students enrolled in Reading and Writing classes served as the sources of data. The common errors in the areas of journal format construct, content and style, lexico-syntactic structure, and correct mechanics and punctuation, were noted and tabulated. Analysis and interpretation were then made based on these errors. The results showed that the students used either metacognitive or reflective formats. With regard to content and style, outputs revealed the use of simple sentences in paragraphs and violation on the principles of unity and coherence. Majority of the students committed errors on the lexico-syntactic structure. Capitalization and spelling were the most frequent errors in the students' written composition; this only showed lapses in the observance of correct mechanics and punctuation. The researcher concluded that the reading and writing students lack the writing competence expected of senior high school learners as shown on the errors in their journal entries. In fact, written entries were hardly comprehensible at times due to the varied lapses on correct writing conventions.
