Ana Quintero

Ana Helvia Quintero: She studied her BA (University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras) and MA (University of California, Berkeley) in mathematics. Her PhD was in the learning of mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She is a professor of mathematics at the University of Puerto Rico. Her main interest is mathematics education. She has been involved in several projects aimed at improving the school system. From January 2001 to June, 2002 she was Under Secretary of Education of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. Based on that experience she published a book (2006), Muchas reformas, pocos cambios (Many reforms, hardly any change), San Juan: Publicaciones Puertorriqueñas. After her experience as Under Secretary of Education she has been working in various projects aimed to offer alternative education to drop-out youth.
