I am interested in contributing to re-thinking and reorienting the purpose of education to highlight its role as an instrument of social transformation and values clarification. I have a particular interest in working in the intersection of sustainability, values and education. I use the Earth Charter as the main ethical reference and instrument to my work.

En la segunda parte del estudio, se presentan 18 casos de centros educativos en Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Panamá que fueron seleccionados por los respectivos ministerios de educación y que ponen en práctica la educación para el desarrollo sostenible, cada una de acuerdo con su contexto y posibilidades.
La parte final del estudio hace un análisis por país de las experiencias sistematizadas, destacando algunas claves que se creen fundamentales para el éxito en la implementación de la EDS. Asimismo, dentro de este análisis, se identifican desafíos, lecciones aprendidas y recomendaciones para el fortalecimiento de estas prácticas, que aplican tanto para los centros educativos como para los ministerios de educación.
Aquí compartimos el resultado de un diálogo curioso entre nosotros, desde las propias experiencias de dos procesos educativos significativos, la Carta de la Tierra como un instrumento de educación en valores y el Aprendizaje Cooperativo de COOPEJOVO, mediados por la mirada y lecciones de nuestras prácticas educativas personales de muchos años. Comparto aquí el resultado de mi investigación doctoral en la que se identifica 7 elementos clave con los que se ha trabajado educación en valores con la Carta de la Tierra.
Este programa, intensivo de una semana tiene como objetivo aportar al liderazgo gubernamental, del sector empresarial y de la sociedad civil, elementos que contribuyan a actualizar y fortalecer su visión de un futuro sostenible y a su gestión efectiva de procesos de cambio y transformación organizacional y social.

Un curso intensivo facilitado por Mirian Vilela y Mark Hathaway entre el 1 y 5 de febrero, 2016 en San José, Costa Rica sobra la educación transformadora, la sostenibilidad y los valores de la Carta de la Tierra.
I was invited to join their advisory board and give a talk at the inauguration ceremony. Subsequently, this presentation titled “Sustainability and peace in education processes through the lens of the Earth Charter,” was incorporated in the first publication of the ISDL.
In this article, which is based on the presentation given, I talk about the sustainable development and peace nexus. I emphasize the importance to be aware and critical of our worldviews and to ask ourselves where these beliefs come from and what impact they have on our decisions and societies. And indicate that our cultural “borders” are socially constructed, which means that we can deconstruct them and construct something new.
