The researcher used the conversational implicature theory by Grice (1975) to identify the utterance and the speech acts theory by Searle (1976) to categorize the function. The design of this research is qualitative research. The researcher used the interview method by Sudaryanto (2015) to collect data, the pragmatic identity method by Sudaryanto (2015) to analyze the data, and used the informal presentation method by Sudaryanto (2015) to present the research result. The aims of this research were to find out the types and the function of address form in the Mort... more The aims of this research were to find out the types and the function of address form in the Mortdecai movie. It was a descriptive qualitative research. To collect the data, documentation and observation method are used.The source of data was the Mortdecai movie in 2015 with the action/comedy genre, the data were the dialogue in the Mortdecai movie. To analyze the data, a sociolinguistics approach was used with the theory of Gumperz, for the address form Robinson theory was used. Researchers were also using Wardhaugh's theory for the types of address form and Chaika's theory for the function of address form. The result of the research, six types of address form were found and three functions of address form were found in the Mortdecai movie. For the types of address form those were, First Name (FN), Title plus Last Name (TLN), Title alone (T), Last Name (LN), Pet Name (PN) and Kinship Term (KT), and for the function were to show intimacy, power difference, and respect. Each use of the address form was different depending on a context, relationship, or position that a person had, while the function of the address form defined the intention of the person to addressed someone.

This research used Yule's and Searle's theory to analyse the data. The research was conducted using qualitative research theory by creswell (2017). The researchers used observational technique to collect the data using . This research got the data from watching Fatherhood movie. From the results of this analysis, the researchers found 15 data divided into 6 types. There are 6 types for offering, 3 types for refusal, 2 types for promising, 2 types for guarantee, 2 types for threatening, and the last 1 type for volunteering. It can be concluded that the most common use of commissive act in the Fatherhood Movie is offering, while the least is volunteering.

This study includes multiple companies, with three companies chosen at random. Brown and Levinson (1987) define negative politeness methods as displaying restraint, formality, and distance. A descriptive qualitative method was used in analyzing the data because it would be explained by words, phrases, and sentences. The researcher employed the Sudaryanto (2015) observational method to obtain data. Kata hean sandan is the third basic kata in karate and is usually played by karateka who hold a yellow to green belt. This kata is also competed in festival and open classes. Apart from that, practicing kata to form the kihon or basic movements of an athlete, when playing this kata, you will see the perfect kihon form. Besides that, kata can train and improve a karateka's concentration. The theory used in this analysis is Nakayama's theory, (1979). The method used in this analysis is the direct field survey method. This method will observe the forms of movement carried out by kohai-kohai karate. Flouting maxims present as pragmatics phenomena that can be easily found in society. It comes in ... more Flouting maxims present as pragmatics phenomena that can be easily found in society. It comes in the communication that does not obey the cooperative principles. In this research, flouting maxims in utterances uttered by characters of movie was analyzed. The types of flouting maxims became the object of this research. The researchers used Jurassic World Dominion movie to be the data source of this descriptive qualitative research. Flouting maxims utterances were collected as data and those were analyzed by using the theory of Grice (1975). Observational method and technique of non-participatory were used to collect the flouting maxims utterances. In analyzing the data, the researchers applied pragmatic identity method and pragmatic competence-in equalizing technique. The results showed that there were 15 data found in Jurassic World Dominion movie. The 15 data consisted of 7 data of flouting maxim of relation , 3 data of flouting maxim of quality, 3 data of flouting maxim of quantity, and 2 data for maxim of manner.

The aim of this research is to find and explain the occurrence of positive politeness strategies ... more The aim of this research is to find and explain the occurrence of positive politeness strategies from You Tube video entitled "Ariana Grande I Full Video". In analyzing the data, researchers took the theory of positive politeness strategies in the scope of Pragmatics by Brown & Levinson (1987) that consists 15 strategies. Descriptive qualitative method was applied by researchers in this research. In collecting data, researchers took observational method, such as watching and listening careful to the video, finding the words that contain the occurrence of positive politeness, collecting the data from the video, divide them based on positive politeness strategies, analyze the words, and explain the result of the analysis. After done doing the analysis, researchers found 68 phenomenon that occur in 10 positive politeness strategies, they are 3 occurrence of the first strategy (Notice, attending to hearer), 13 occurrence of the second strategy (Exaggerating (Showing interest, approving, and give sympathy to hearer)), 8 occurrence of the fourth strategy (Using in group identity marker), 21 occurrence of the fifth strategy (Seeking agreement), 3 occurrence of the sixth strategy (Avoid disagreement), 10 occurrence of the seventh strategy (Presupposing, raising, or asserting common ground), 1 occurrence of the eighth strategy (Giving joke), 1 occurrence of the twelfth strategy (Including or getting both speaker and hearer into the activity), 7 occurrence of the thirteenth strategy (Giving or asking for reason), and 1 occurrence of the fifteenth strategy (Giving gifts to H in the form of goods, sympathy, understanding, and cooperation).

This research investigates the types of directive speech acts in the movie "Fall" which... more This research investigates the types of directive speech acts in the movie "Fall" which was released in 2022. The data in this research were taken from the utterances produced by the characters in the movie "Fall". This study uses a descriptive qualitative method from Creswell (2018), because the data are in the form of words and phrases. The theory from Yule (1996) was applied to identify the types of directive speech acts in the data sources. Then, this research applies the theory from Sudaryanto (2015) about the observation method and non- participation techniques used to collect data from the movie. The results showed that there were 21 directive speech act data in the movie "Fall". And the 10 data are divided into 5 types of directive speech acts. Those were 3 command data, 7 command data, 5 request data, 4 suggestion data, and 2 suggestion data. The type of request is the most used type of directive speech act in the movie "Fall" 2022.
