The World Leaders’ Statement on Population Stabilization signed in 1994 by heads of seventy-five ... more The World Leaders’ Statement on Population Stabilization signed in 1994 by heads of seventy-five (75) countries including the Philippines, acknowledged that the degradation of the world's environment, income inequality, and the potential for conflict exists because of rapid population growth, among other factors. With early population stabilization of interest to all nations, each agreed to adopt the necessary policies and programs consistent with their culture and aspirations supported by voluntary measures that respect individual human rights and beliefs.

This study aims to describe the demographic profile and determine the proportion and Active Aging health determinants of staff, faculty, and retired employees who are 55 years of age and older. Methods. Mixed qualitative and quantitative methods, community-based, and participatory. Participants were working and retired faculty and staff, age 55 years and over, living within an urban campus of a University. The University Ethics Review Board approved the protocol. Focus group discussions (FGDs) led to the development of a pretested survey instrument. Additional health data were obtained using a validated Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) tool. Trained and certified health professionals conducted the CGA. A Senior Geriatrician adjudicated the final diagnoses. Progress reports and validation workshops were conducted with study participants, content experts, and stakeholders. CSPRo, SPSS, and STATA were used to generate and analyze

This study tests the hypothesis that climate change, through its rice productivity impacts, induc... more This study tests the hypothesis that climate change, through its rice productivity impacts, induces out-migration in the Philippines. Results show that climate change effects such as increasing night time temperature and extreme rainfall pattern, by way of reduction in rice yield and farm revenues, significantly increases the number of Overseas Filipino Workers. Findings also show that overseas migration of female workers is more sensitive to climate and rice productivity changes compared to male overseas migration. However, unlike overseas migration, the reduction in yield and farm revenues act as a constraint to domestic migration.

The results of these two sets of evaluations are described in separate reports. 2 The purpose of this report is to briefly summarize the results of the evaluations as a springboard for discussing program and policy issues. Specifically, this analysis attempts to draw out the program and policy implications of the findings from the MGP process and impact evaluations. There are two types of lessons to be learned. One is useful to local government authorities and involves lessons for planning and implementing local health interventions that are effective and have large impacts. The second is useful for Department of Health authorities and other policy stakeholders and involves lessons for formulating policies and programs to support local governments in expanding health service coverage in the context of overall health sector reform.

We show that new scales summarizing complex types of labor force behavior are strongly related to... more We show that new scales summarizing complex types of labor force behavior are strongly related to socioeconomic attainments for males aged 25-64, net of standard predictors measuring background, schooling, and experience or first-job status. Baseline status-attainment models are reconsidered with data from the 1973 Occupational Changes in a Generation study (OCG-II), with both the models and the data viewed as an important test case. One goal is to examine whether the "effects" of labor force behavior remain when background status and other factors are statistically controlled. Results provide evidence for the importance of proximate labor market experiences (i.e., recent labor-force careers) and worker marginality (i.e., underemployment) in models predicting occupational status and especially in models predicting log-earnings. The perspective advocated here can be used in longitudinal analyses involving labor force careers as predictors of attainments over the life CyCk.
