By race, he is from Africa, and was sold as a slave. Although a general who commands soldiers who are mostly whites, he suffers from imposter syndrome, which is a psychological phenomenon where individuals doubt their achievements and fear being exposed as an imposter. The article examines how this forms the chief drive for Othello, despite his apparent confidence, and shapes the course of the play towards tragedy.

The paper is a review of Anglo-Saxon documents related to healing, before passing on to the milestone work of Reginald Scot in establishing medical sciences as a rational field of study, distancing itself from witchcraft. The discussion in the
paper is of Macbeth as a study in mental health disorders like schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) , sleep disorders and the use of hallucinogens.Romeo and Juliet is also discussed as a text, as there is reference to the use of drugs to cause paralysis, coma or sleep, as per regulation of dose. The critical review of English Literature during this period,
includes Wordsworth and the benefit of taking a vacation to lessen cortisol levels, before placing Frankenstein as a pioneering work, taking up the experiments of Galvani, Aldini and Darwin and showing the use of Physics in medical sciences to (re)create life. The paper finally is an examination of psychological health issues such as personality disorders and split
personality types (Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), and includes a discussion on Dracula as a text, which documents the transfusion of blood.

The findings of various researches suggest that parts of the right hemisphere, relative to Broca's area and Wernicke's area in the left hemisphere, are involved in the processing of language in ways that were not previously observed, and argues for a change in the existing labels of some areas of the brain to be more accurate. This paper argues for a removing the exclusivity of " language areas " in the left hemisphere and recognizing the right as essential in language making and processing, and proposes " semantic and lexical comprehension " and " verbal output/production " instead of the commonly held " language comprehension " and " language processing " labels, and bringing prosody and intonation under language areas, too, by using clearer expressions " figurative and prosodic comprehension " (instead of sensory prosody/intonation) and " figurative and prosodic production/utterance " (instead of motor prosody/intonation). The paper also suggests that the word " areas " be changed to " regions " as present researches show that often, regions are involved instead of the watertight areas held as per convention, and using 'Broca's region' and 'Wernicke's region' and in general, 'language regions'.

The paper draws upon the research carried out at University of Liverpool, where it was shown that reading Shakespeare increases intelligence. This research takes current findings further in the field of Neurolinguistics, by showing how the effects of reading Shakespeare can affect people suffering from various forms of aphasia. The research is based on the findings of the author in classroom context, and the subjects of the research are his students suffering from some form of language disorder. The paper does not only list the findings, but attempts an explanation of why and how reading Shakespeare can be medically beneficial, by revealing some of the basic features of neuroanatomy, certain chemicals which are at work at certain places, and they can affect language, memory and speech production.

The prime aim of the test is to benefit Indians, but people from other non-native Anglo-phone nations would also be able to take the test.Indians learn English as a second language (linguistically speaking). As it is not possible to devise aphasia tests for every language in India (and even if that is done, it does not mean that the therapist/pathologist would be familiar with the language), the best solution is to devise a test where aphasiacs would be tested in English, but as a second language. The following test has been devised to serve the purpose.

In To the Lighthouse, we find Woolf's presentation of a family which is at war with itself, while surrounded by war in the world. In this paper, I would attempt a psychoanalytic reading of the text, based on Freud's views. The paper would focus on the relationship between Mr Ramsey and his son, James, from the perspective of the Oedipus Complex. James would also be looked at separately to bring out his character from Freudian theory of the stages of the development of the boy from boyhood to adulthood. The lighthouse would be taken as a symbol, and be interpreted psychoanalytically. The war and its impact on the family would be looked upon to have created certain drives in the characters, and their actions analysed from that point of view. It must be clarified in this proposal that I do not intend to bring in Lacanian treatment of psychoanalysis, but restrict the interpretation only as per Freud.

The book discusses 4 case studies and lists in detail how various passages, carefully chosen from Shakespeare's plays and sonnets, can help persons suffering from speech disorders. The book also proposes some new terminology for expanding the areas of language in the brain. There is ample material for therapists and speech-language pathologists, who can help those who suffer from speech problems. This work takes forward the ongoing researches which show that reading Shakespeare boosts brain activity.

This book features some of the representative poets of the Victorian and Modern times. This does not go to say that the other poets are less important. This selection offers poems which are academically studied, and studying which, the students would gain a comprehensive understanding of the ages which the poems belong to. This book unites scholars of different institutions, most of whom have previously worked with me in bringing out another book, a collection of articles, titled, Through the Literary Glass (Educreation, 2017). Contributors (names appear alphabetically): Aaron Edwards, Ankita Pandey, Anuradha Dosad, Koushik Dey, Pritesh Chakraborty, Shruti Roy Chakraborti, Subrata Ray, Sunayan Mukherjee, Tanusree Roy.
Featured Poets: Tennyson (Ulysses), Browning (The Last Duchess, Porphyria's Lover, The Last Ride Together), Owen (Spring Offensive, Strange Meeting), Yeats (Lake Isle of Innisfree), Eliot (Preludes, The Waste Land)

The book is aimed at the students studying under various universities in West Bengal, although the common poems would make it suitable for students of other states as well. The book provides detailed annotations for all poems, and there are lots of helpful topics before and after the poems, to help the students prepare their academic material. Most importantly, the annotations are given below the lines of the poem, instead of at the end, so that students are not bothered with turning the pages endlessly. Each section starts with helpful introduction to the respective age. The book discusses Spenser, Sidney, Shakespeare, Donne, Marvell, Milton, Pope, Blake, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Shelley and Keats. Some useful illustrations, academically valuable, have been given to make the book an enjoyable read.

Critical Studies in Poetry: From Elizabethan to Romantic Age

This is a student-friendly edition containing all the poems from the syllabus of the first year. It provides detailed annotations (on the same page as the text!) for all the poems and also discusses important topics for questions. The annotations not only explain the lines - they also provide rich critical insights.
A special feature of the book is the article given by Prof. Eleanor Tate of New Asia College, Hong Kong. It is an in depth discussion on The Good Morrow. Other poems are also substantially covered.
The book also provides lots of background information on the poems, the times and the poets. A few illustrations are also provided, which make the book an enjoyable read."

It caters to the need of the students by showing them how to write the answers of scansion and figures of speech, something that is exclusive to this book. There are also many solved passages for this purpose. The comprehensible language and plenty of examples make the book a pleasurable read. After a careful study of the text, students would be in a position to solve similar passages on their own. The book would also be useful for students who wish to appear in various competitive exams for the post of teachers and lecturers and also for general readers as well, and anybody who is interested in the subject.
