It also gives the attributed role of a man and a woman in the society. Accordingly, definitions of masculinity (how one is expected to think and behave based on the fact of being male) and femininity (how one is expected to think and behave based on the fact of being female) are social constructions that incorporate historical, political and social dimensions of gender relations. Definitions and practices of masculinity are also embedded in institutions and mass culture. The study of masculinity enables the explanation of what consist of being the „real man‟ in respect to the social construction roles. This study will acknowledge the various social role and meanings of masculinities. The assignment is making a critical analysis on the boys at school, studying and analysing their behaviours in respect to theoretical concept of masculinities. The main aim of the study is to show to what extent boys in schools in Mauritius still display masculinity and whether the dominant patriarchal structure exists.

Primary data will be collected through the use of self-administered questionnaire and semi-structured interview and secondary data will be taken from internet search and the Security Office of UoM. However, secondary data was not obtained due to confidentiality. Research implications: This research will help us to view the trend of Female smoker at the University of Mauritius. It will also allow us to take into consideration, the thinking that people tend to have, that is, it is men who have the tendency to smoke. Girls have broken that barrier of gender stereotype and are more frequently seen with cigarette in hands. To some extent, women have modernised and adopted the culture of freedom, which might have come to this issue nowadays.
