More specifically, it analyzes the historical context of the evolution of digital technology and its use in museums. The changes it made to the way it was handled by Museum specialists, in relation to the management of their collections, as well as the ways of its use in the communication that the Museums wanted to have with their audience, are issues that are dealt with this work by using examples of digital technology that have been implemented, but also ways of incorporating the information within it.
Another aspect of this paper is the analysis of the subject of the interactive digital narrative as a way mediating the information that museums manage with their audience. It also highlights good practices and concerns of its use by the Museums. This paper uses as case studies, two pilot projects (Chess & Emotive) which are based on the use of digital narrative in connection with multimedia applications on mobile phones. These two parts, technology and museum information, often collide. The information that museums want to provide to their audiences, is often incompatible with the technological innovations which are highly interactive, realistic and above all, they give the sense to the user, of being the one who controls information, and not transmitter, thus allowing a bottom up, management of information rather than the opposite.
Finally the purpose of this paper, is to demonstrate the concerns about concepts such as what is digital narrative, what makes a narrative interactive in conjunction with multimedia applications and how important it is for personalized applications to diffuse information, and what could possibly be done in the future both from the part of the museum and the digital technology specialists.
