///Οι αρχές της δεκαετίας του 1960 βρίσκουν την επαρχιακή πόλη του Ρεθύμνου στην αρχή μιας παραγωγικής καλλιτεχνικής περιόδου. Η ανάγκη παρουσίας ενός τοπικού θιάσου που θα κάλυπτε το ψυχαγωγικό κενό σε συνδυασμό με την ανάγκη διατήρησης του τοπικού πολιτισμού οδήγησε το 1960 στην δημιουργία της Ερασιτεχνικής Καλλιτεχνικής Σκηνής. Με αρχή την ηθογραφία "Εμαθετέ τα", ο ερασιτεχνικός αυτός θίασος διένυσε μια πορεία 20 χρόνων ανεβάζοντας έργα, κυρίως σε κρητική διάλεκτο, που έφερναν επί σκηνής τον πολιτισμό της υπαίθρου, τα ήθη και τα έθιμα του. Η θετική ανταπόκριση οδήγησε στη συγγραφή έργων ειδικά για τον θίασο, ανάμεσα σε αυτά μάλιστα Το χέρι του σκοτωμένου από τον συγγραφέα Παντελή Πρεβελάκη. H βαθύτερη μελέτη της δράσης της Ερασιτεχνικής Καλλιτεχνικής Σκηνής αναδεικνύει τις ανάγκες της μικρής αυτής κοινωνίας να διατηρήσει τον λαϊκό πολιτισμό της μέσα σε μια μεταβατική περίοδο και παράλληλα φωτογραφίζει ένα λαϊκό θεατρικό κοινό που ταυτίζεται με τη δράση των έργων και αισθάνεται περήφανο για την τοπική του ταυτότητα.

“Have you heard? Audience in a small Greek town watch its traditions and culture on stage... The twenty-year journey of the Amateur Art Stage of Rethymnon Conservatory (1960- 1980)"

At the dawn of the ‘60s, Rethymnon finds itself at the beginning of a productive artistic era. The need for a local theatre company, which would compensate for the lack of entertainment, along with the need to retain local culture, led to the emergence of the Amateur Art Stage, in 1960.
Starting with the play “Have you heard?”, this non-professional group remained active for 20 years, staging plays -mainly in Cretan dialect- depicting the countryside culture, its traditional values and customs. Warm reception resulted in plays written especially for this group, including “The Hand of the Slain”, by the great Rethymnian author Pantelis Prevelakis.
Thorough study of the overall activity of the Amateur Art Stage, shows the need of this particular small town society to preserve its folk culture in a transitional era, and at the same time reveals the presence of an audience consisting of ordinary people, who empathize with action on stage, and feel proud of their local identity.

The central theme of this presentation is the online performance of F. G. Lorca's "The House of B... more The central theme of this presentation is the online performance of F. G. Lorca's "The House of Bernarda Alba", which was created in Greece by the theatre school of "Periplous Theatre" under the direction of Maria Kantife, during the 2021 quarantine. This performance, of a kind which is now known as digital theatre / performance, came about as a result of a complete method of acting teaching created by the acting teacher to enable the continuation of her work under isolation conditions, via video and video calls. After six months of online rehearsals, the play was performed via a group video call, which was also recorded, with the actors never actually meeting face-to-face but creating an atmosphere shared by all of them, so that the viewer could sense that all the actors were performing in the same world. This performance was the first of its kind in Greece and this work shows us how the arts can benefit from technology and how theatre can be experienced in different ways. It raises issues regarding theatre teaching methods, research and theatre practices, while at the same time it examines how an audience perceives an online performance when they themselves are viewing on online platforms (zoom).
