Residential Training The TCU Center promotes the JBI mission and engages both academic and practice associates in evidence generation, synthesis, transfer and utilisation, Burns said. The fellowship program consists of two stages of residency training combined with a clinical leadership project in the fellow's own practice facility.

I n a large cohort of female breast cancer patients, researchers at The University of Texas MD An... more I n a large cohort of female breast cancer patients, researchers at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center showed that delaying chemotherapy beyond 90 days after surgery negatively affects survival in older breast cancer patients, with race and ethnicity also associated with delays in treatment. “This research confirms that the proportion of elderly breast cancer women, particularly those belonging to racial/ethnic minorities, experienced a delay in chemotherapy initiation, which is associated with adverse outcomes,” noted lead author, Mariana Chavez MacGregor, MD, MSC, Associate Professor in the Department of Health Services Research and the Department of Breast Medical Oncology. A delay in chemotherapy significantly worsens survival, said MacGregor, whose work focuses on identifying populations that are less likely to receive prompt treatment. “If the delay in chemotherapy treatment extends beyond the 90 days after surgery, the survival outcome can be worse.” As observed among the elderly breast cancer patients, those of low socioeconomic status and those belonging to racial/ethnic minority groups are more likely to experience delays.

The genomes of members of the cyanobacterial genus Acaryochloris vary greatly in gene content as a consequence of the idiosyncratic retention of both recent gene duplicates and plasmid-encoded genes acquired by horizontal transfer. For example, the genome of Acaryochloris strain MBIC11017, which was isolated from an iron-limited environment, is enriched in duplicated and novel genes involved in iron assimilation. Here, we took an integrative approach to characterize the adaptation of Acaryochloris MBIC11017 to low environmental iron availability and the relative contributions of the expression of duplicated versus novel genes. We observed that Acaryochloris MBIC11017 grew faster and to a higher yield in the presence of nanomolar concentrations of iron than did a closely-related strain.
