The study aims to identify the most effective English translations of these metaphors by sending a questionnaire to 43 native English speakers (NESs), focusing on Target Language metaphors and similes (TL) and using Abdul-Raof’s (2006) framework to classify similes. The findings indicate that YA dialects use animal and supernatural creatures’ names to convey meanings, feelings, and intents, while NESs preferred to use detailed similes that incorporate both feature and element. Unlike YA, which accepts all three types of metaphor and simile to address humans using animal and supernatural creatures’ names, most NESs rejected the metaphor, which lacks simile. These findings suggest that animal and supernatural creature names are translated differently in the two languages and cultures, highlighting potential differences in cultural aspects. Generally, this study contributes to our understanding of the sociopragmatics of language use in different cultures and their impact on cross-cultural communication. The findings suggest the need for further research into the translation of animal and supernatural creatures’ names in different languages and cultures.

The constraints of combining this expertise have hampered learners’ writing success. Those obstacles can cause learners to make errors. Error Analysis (EA) and Surface Strategy Taxonomy (SST) were used to analyze learners’ linguistic errors. Error causes were also investigated. This research used a qualitative process style to use a case study approach. Ellis’ five-step EA procedure was followed to analyze essay data each comprising 100-350 words or more written by 20 Yemeni EFL eighth semester Arabic-speaking learners at the Department of Education, Sana’a University, Yemen. They were purposely selected as research subjects. It was noticed that omission was the most common error detected in the learners’ writings. Overall, this form of error accounted for 58.71% of 118 cases out of 201 cases. The learners’ common error categories were the number marker, verb-tenses articles, preposit...

The uniqueness of Javanese language is reflected through the use of speech level and the distinctive specification in addressing things and activities. Consequently, Javanese language is rich with vocabularies and it has many specific cultural terms in many aspects and activities. Precisely, it examines forms of discrimination realized through discriminatory expressions. Data for the study were obtained with document analysis and FGD (Focus Group Discussion). Results of data analysis show that the unequal use of language in this study relates to social class and gender. Social class discrimination takes the forms of subordination, stereotyping, marginalization, and violence. In addition to workload, gender discrimination also takes similar forms of discrimination. We argue that a priori and a posteriori are unable to comprehensively analyze the relationship between fictional conlangs with game elements. This research aims at constructing a new taxonomy on fictional conlang design approach that adheres specifically to video game. To do so, first, we analyze 62 game titles with 94 fictional conlangs to prove that a priori and a posteriori display deficiencies in pointing their relationship with video game elements. The next step is constructing a taxonomy based on the integration of Crystal's notion on ludic linguistics, language studies for playful purposes, and Aarseth's textonomy, the study on how texts are accessed. The research findings indicate that a priori and a posteriori fail to classify 29 fictional conlangs into either category and to indicate the relationship between the conlangs with game elements. In response to this failure, we construct a taxonomy consisting of three approaches namely interpretive, explorative, and configurative. These three approaches are able to indicate a structural relationship between fictional game conlangs, game genres, and the immersion level of the players and to patch the weaknesses a priori and a posteriori taxonomy has. Linguists, departing from this new taxonomy, might cooperate with game designers to design comprehensive conlangs, specifically designed for video games, which conform and correspond to the game genres and immersion levels.

The result of this research shows that there are two types of modality metaphor found in the novel, they are probability and obligation. Moreover, the translation techniques that used to translate the modality metaphor are established equivalence, compensation, paraphrase, modulation, deletion, discursive creation and implicitation. The use of these translation techn...
