I am Emeritus Professor of La Plata National University, the largest research University of Argentina. I was President of this University between 1986 and 1992. I was Foundation-Director of the La Plata Physics Institute, associated to Argentina’s National Research Council (CONICET), from 1999 till 2009. I am Most Senior Researcher of this Institution. I was awarded in 2008 the Scopus-Elsevier Prize to the most cited Argentine physicist in the period 1998-2008. I am Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Pretoria and Member of the Academies of Science of both Brazil and Mexico. I have been adviser of 31 doctoral PhD’s. I have published 621 refereed research papers in International Journals.My research papers deal with Nuclear Physics, Quantum Information, Many Body Physics, Statistical Mechanics, Non-linear Physics, Chaos Theory, Foundations of Quantum Mechanics, and Complexity.

We study here the difference between quantum statistical treatments and semi-classical ones, usin... more We study here the difference between quantum statistical treatments and semi-classical ones, using as the main research tool a semi-classical, shift-invariant Fisher information measure built up with Husimi distributions. Its semi-classical character notwithstanding, this measure also contains information of a purely quantal nature. Such a tool allows us to refine the celebrated Lieb bound for Wehrl entropies and to discover thermodynamic-like relations that involve the degree of delocalization. Fisher-related thermal uncertainty relations are developed and the degree of purity of canonical distributions, regarded as mixed states, is connected to this Fisher measure as well.

In classical information theory, one employs the Kullback-Leibler relative entropy for this purpose which also has its quantum version. These are also additive measures and the Tsallis counterparts of these have been put forward and employed in the quantum context as well [10, 11]. There is promise in future work using the Tsallis approach to problems arising in quantum information theory, especially in the areas of quantum algorithms and quantum computing. There has been some discussion of the thermodynamics of information, in particular quantum information. Since there are hints that quantum entanglement may not be additive, and since the concept of entropy has been introduced into the discussion, an examination of maximum Tsallis entropy subject to constraints such as the Bell-Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt observable was studied for purposes of inferring quantum entanglement [5, 6].

Differential cross sections and polarizations for 17.8-MeV protons scattered by nickel isotopes h... more Differential cross sections and polarizations for 17.8-MeV protons scattered by nickel isotopes have been calculated by solving the coupled equations. The nuclear states were described in terms of their microscopic composition in the two-quasiparticle approximation. Two such model calculations were used. The effect of the presence of pure "two-phonon" states was investigated by generating them from the collective operator for the 2i + state. The effects of the spin-flip term in the direct interaction were included. Comparison of the results with experiments suggests that, except for the collective 2i + state, the two-quasiparticle method is inadequate for treating nuclear states. The vibrational treatment also fails. A much more elaborate structure calculation which treats the mixing between the two-quasiparticle and the "two-phonon" configurations is suggested.

The invariants can be constructed even for nonlinear time-dependent Hamiltonians, and recourse to the statistical operator allows for the possibility of ascribing a thermodynamical meaning to our invariants.

The error in determining the beta spectra energies from standard sources is pointed out. A fast-slow coincidence circuit was set up for detecting conversion electrons in coincidence with electromagnetic radiations by means of a system with solid state counter and scintillation crystal. The results obtained in the case of Bi 207 , Cs 137 , Au 198 and Pb 203 are given.

Di erent information measures are employed. It is shown that non-extensive ones seem to be of particular usefulness. Their use opens up perspectives of building up automatic detection devices. Conjectures concerning general characteristics of focal epilepsy are formulated on the basis of a Tsallis-type of analysis.

Many important probability distributions in physics, biology, and other fields can be obtained by... more Many important probability distributions in physics, biology, and other fields can be obtained by the constrained maximization of appropriate information-entropic functionals. The associated maximum entropy formalisms and their applications have been the focus of intense research efforts in recent years. It may seem that this (generalized) maximum entropy approach suffers from a basic ambiguity, in the sense that any probability distribution seems to be derivable from the maximization of any entropic measure if an appropriate constraint is used. Here we argue that, in general, the aforementioned ambiguity disappears when maximum entropy representations of mono-parametric families of probability distributions are considered, as contrasted to maximum entropy representations of just a single, isolated instance of a probability distribution.

The concomitant technique can be used to predict the future behavior of nonlinear systems using just a small amount of data. Some numerical examples for chaotic time series are presented. The method can be considered to yield a new tool for modelling nonlinear systems.
