Anna Falkenau
As a Freyer-Hardiman Scholar at the University of Galway (2018-2023), Anna Falkenau has conducted seminal research into Irish traditional and folk music in Galway City during the 1960s and 1970s, recognizing the city’s newly developed Irish traditional music scene in pubs as central to Galway’s metamorphosis into a centre for culture. Excerpts of her research have been published in print publications and in online journals (2021; 2022; 2023). Anna Falkenau is also a critically acclaimed musician and a passionate teacher of Irish traditional music, both through instrumental tuition and academic lectures, specializing in the performance of Irish traditional and American old-time music. Anna Falkenau lectures at third level. This includes the final year performance module in Irish traditional music at the University of Galway (2022-23), the Irish traditional music module of the USAC Study Abroad Broad Program at the University of Galway (2023), and a variety of courses and guest lectures exploring historical and current aspects of Irish traditional music, song and dance (2018-ongoing). She has delivered public lectures, namely as part of the Town Hall Lecture Series, University of Galway, and at national and international conferences (2019-ongoing). www.annafalkenau.com
