The analysis outlines the semantic properties of these verbs and their pragmatic behaviours in some communicative contexts. The comparison of the two languages shows the particular ways in which the intensive meaning of the predicates is encoded: the semantic and pragmatic connotations of the circumfixed Russian verbs are expressed in Italian by lexical intensifiers, idiomatic expressions and specific sintactic patterns.

The use of the aorist and past participle confirms that in the Early East Slavic documents of the 11th‒14th centuries (taken from the Old Russian subcorpus of the RNC) the verb was used in perfective contexts, but some forms of present participle, simple present and imperfect attested in the documents are discussed in order to show the aspectual indefiniteness of this verb.</p> </div>

The subject of my analysis is the relationship between the categories of aspect and tense in the aorist, imperfect and perfect tenses found in the text. The aorist forms concern mostly prefixed verbs without imperfective thematic suffix. The imperfect forms concern mainly verbs whose theme is ‘primary’, unprefixed, ‘bi-aspectual’, or prefixed suffixed verbs. Finally the perfect forms present more ‘tense-aspect’ meanings, depending on whether the copula is expressed or omitted, on whether the verbal theme is prefixed or unprefixed. Besides, a particular aspectual value, obscefakticeskoe ‘generic-factual’, of certain perfect forms can be noticed: the forms of the unprefixed verbs (with or without copula) either of the imperfective or of the ‘bi-aspectual’ kind, and the forms of the perfective prefixed verbs (without ...

The verbs with this suffix are used in all different contexts where the imperfective verbal aspect is required. The examples from the texts show a more frequent occurrence of the verbal forms with the suffix in dialogues, that is in passages involving oral communication contexts. Only in the later centuries the suffix will also take the particular function of expressing the “iterative mode of action” (iterativnyj sposob dejstvija).

In Italian these verbs encode deictic information and in Russian their use relies on non-deictic factors. This contrast yields different patterns of thinking for speaking, which influence L2 acquisition. It will be shown how this approach, completely absent in the manuals, can be used for the teaching Russian as L2.

In some expressions with transitive verbs (e. g. vychodit’, donosit’ and naezdit’) the prefixes are lexical. Their function consists in creating accomplishment verbs with a resultative meaning. On the other side, the prefixes po-, za- and ot- in such verbs as pochodit’, zachodit’, ot’’ezdit’ are superlexical. They have the function of expressing additional meanings which refer to the duration, inception and cessation of the action.
