A clay collected in Yaou (southeastern Ivory Coast in the Aboisso department) and glass waste are used as raw materials. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Differential Thermal Analysis and Thermogravimetry (DTA-GTA), granulometric analysis, and ICP performed on these raw materials have shown that 50% of this clay has a size less than 10 μm and consists mainly of Kaolinite, goethite, quartz and illite. As for glass, it is of the soda-lime type and contains 73.59% of silica. The geopolymers were synthesized by the alkaline activation of the glass powder incorporating different amounts of metakaolin (MK) and the results show that the compressive strength increases as the MK content increases. The MK rate for an optimal compressive strength for the case of the Yaou clay is 5%. The geopolymers elaborated are stable in a neutral and basic medium but present microcracks in an acid medium after 7 days of immersion in these different media.
