The need for a new critical edition was especially felt following the advancement of studies throughout the 20th century, especially with regard to the manuscript tradition, in close connection with the work on the orthography, metrics and dramaturgy of the comedies.

We know very little about greek models that have inspired Plautus, Terentius and other poets of t... more We know very little about greek models that have inspired Plautus, Terentius and other poets of the palliata . This is why the attempt of reconstruction of their original shapes and even of their details, on the basis of an analytical approach on latin ‘texts of arrival’, is an useless exercise and a merely hypothetical proceeding. Instead the utilization of reliable data preserved by the tradition is helpful to understand how Plautus especially has built his comic dramas by using the greek theater. We will see therefore that he makes use of general and recurrent ‘dramaturgical motifs’ that can be traced back to the New Comedy. By the combination and the creative variation of these ‘motifs’ Plautus composes original comedies in total keeping with his inimitable idea of comic theater.

Grave 12 of Tepe Chalow is the richest burial excavated to date at the site. It is a typical GKC ... more Grave 12 of Tepe Chalow is the richest burial excavated to date at the site. It is a typical GKC pit grave in which was buried a female adolescent younger than 18 years. In the grave were found 34 objects: 12 typical GKC pottery vases; 4 stone objects of chlorite, white and black stone, serpentine, and lapis lazuli; 13 metal objects of gold, bronze, typical GKC, and two ivory pins.m The burial matches the funeral rituals attested at Chalow. The grave was oriented NE-SW and the body crouched on the right side with the hands near the face, looking toward the SE. Ceramic vessels were placed behind the back of the skeleton, from the head to the feet; there were two pins near the shoulders and two bracelets on the arms; the large vase near the feet contained a significant object. The chlorite objects were grouped near the face of the deceased, and so were the metal objects and ivory pins, with the exception of a small bronze jar and two pins. Alain Robbe-Grillet, in his novel Les Gommes, transforms the story of Oedipus into a typical noir and William Hjortsberg uses it as a hypotext for his ‘demonic’ crime novel Falling Angel. On this book Alan Parker based his movie Angel Heart, where the main elements of the myth of Oedipus are rendered through original solutions, closely linked to the peculiarities of film language.

La poiesis nella performance dell'attore comico a Roma Abstract Il teatro comico di Roma antica è soprattutto un teatro di parola, dove la poesia scandisce i ritmi drammaturgici e crea da sé le situazioni sceniche. Quindi il testo delle commedie, il complesso apparato metrico-ritmico, l'elaborato tessuto stilistico costituiscono il punto di partenza principale per capirne l'arte. Tuttavia il testo scritturale non era allora e non può essere ora teatro. Il contributo dell'attore comico, non solo come elemento aggiuntivo per l'interpretazione di ciò che è scritto, ma anche come co-autore della pièce (intesa ovvia-mente come ciò che avviene sulla scena in presenza di un particolare pubblico e quindi come performance irripetibile) è sempre stato un elemento imprescindibile per garantire la non fissità e la necessaria 'instabilità' del testo teatrale. Questo lo sanno bene i teorici del teatro contemporaneo, ma, come ci dimostrano le caratteristiche della trasmissione dei testi e le testimonianze storico-letterarie, lo sapevano bene anche gli antichi, che a Roma, sin dall'epoca del Sarsinate, hanno visto attori e capocomici mettere la loro impronta per-sonale su commedia e tragedia, creando una dialettica fra testo scritto e testo agito, capace di modificare di volta in volta la pièce per avvicinarla a pubblici differenti, in un interessan-te gioco di varianti che ne ha disegnato la storia per gli anni e per i secoli successivi. Riflettere sull'attore comico nel mondo antico (e nel mondo romano in particolare) e sulla sua incidenza nella qualità del testo, come esso è giunto fino a noi, significa in primo luogo soffermarsi sul concetto semiotico di testo tea-trale, inteso come testo che non consta solo di un apparato verbale, ma richie-de corpi, voci, suoni, colori, forme e, soprattutto, un'interazione reale con il pubblico 2. La poiesis nella performance dell'attore comico a Roma Abstract Il teatro comico di Roma antica è soprattutto un teatro di parola, dove la poesia scandisce i ritmi drammaturgici e crea da sé le situazioni sceniche. Quindi il testo delle commedie, il complesso apparato metrico-ritmico, l'elaborato tessuto stilistico costituiscono il punto di partenza principale per capirne l'arte. Tuttavia il testo scritturale non era allora e non può essere ora teatro. Il contributo dell'attore comico, non solo come elemento aggiuntivo per l'interpretazione di ciò che è scritto, ma anche come co-autore della pièce (intesa ovvia-mente come ciò che avviene sulla scena in presenza di un particolare pubblico e quindi come performance irripetibile) è sempre stato un elemento imprescindibile per garantire la non fissità e la necessaria 'instabilità' del testo teatrale. The cinematic translations of Euripides' Medea and of Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus both use a visual representation of silence to show some voiceless talk that somehow involve the barbarians. In Pasolini's movie, the barbarian Medea talks intensely with Jason without any word; in Julie Taymor's film Titus, Lavinia, raped and mutilated of her tongue by the sons of the barbarian queen Tamora, silently complains about her tormentors through the book that contains the ovidian tale of Philomela.

Nel 2008 esce in Francia il volume di Johann Chapoutot Le nationalsocialisme et l'Antiquité per l... more Nel 2008 esce in Francia il volume di Johann Chapoutot Le nationalsocialisme et l'Antiquité per le edizioni PUF. Nel 2012 il libro viene ripubblicato in edizione rivista con il titolo Le nazisme et l'Antiquité. È quest'ultima versione che esce ora in Italia come Il nazismo e l'Antichità. La differenza nel titolo non è secondaria. Se vogliamo trovare infatti un limite in quest'opera, è il tono generale un po' troppo apertamente irridente nei confronti dei nazisti, a partire dalla scelta di sostituire nel titolo l'originario national socialisme con il più polemico nazisme usato negli anni Venti dagli oppositori di Hitler.
