Utilization of Azotobacter and Azospirillum as microbial N 2 fixation may be a solution in reducing the use of inorganic N fertilizer. Inoculation of microbial N 2 fixation requires superior isolates in N 2 fixation and high viability. A screening experiment to get the Azotobacter and Azospirillum isolates superior in N 2 fixation and high viability in paddy field has been performed at the Laboratory of Biology and Biotechnology soil, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Padjadjaran. Isolates taken from the rhizosphere and roots of paddy at Sukatani and Karangbahagia-Bekasi, Rengsdengklok-Karawang, Jatinangor-Sumedang and Ciparay-Bandung. The results obtained bacterial isolates are superior in N 2 fixation and viability were Azotobacter chroococcum from rhizosphere of paddy Ciherang varieties at Rengasdengklok-Karawang and Azospirillum irakense from roots of paddy Ciherang varieties at Ciparay-Bandung.

One of the reasons for the decline in rice production in Indonesia is that most of the paddy fields are already degraded, which is characterized by, among other things, low organic matter content. straw produced in rice cultivation is 7 tonnes / ha. However, the components of rice straw are mainly cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin, and small amounts of protein which make the C / N value high. The methods used in this activity are in the form of counseling, demonstration plots / pilots of making rice straw compost, guidance and counseling, field applications or planting rice using compost, monitoring and field evaluation. The results of the community service that has been carried out in Karyasari Village, Rengas Dengklok District, Karawang Regency were carried out by 10 members and this research was carried out well and by monitoring to see how successful compost from agricultural waste was.

Auxin is a growth hormone that can be produced by bacteria, including Azospirillum. Pyruvate indole 3 acetic acid (IAA) is one form of auxin which can be produced by Azospirillum. The main precursor in the formation of IAA by Azospirilum is tryptophan. IAA biosynthesis by Azospirillum consists of the major pathway Indole 3 pyruvate and minor pathway through Tryptamine. Production of IAA by Azospirilum influenced by genetic factors and environmental factors. Genes involved in the production process of IAA by Azospirillum is ipdC gene that determines the formation of pyruvate decarboxylase enzyme indole 3. Environmental factors that influence the IAA biosynthesis is the availability of carbon, medium pH, oxygen and nitrogen.
