To identify the scales to assess sleep disorders applied to women with climacteric stage. Bibliographical research
without intervention, the available information in scientific databases. Performed in PubMed, ScienceDirect,
Scopus, Ebscohos OvidSP and Health Library. The words used in this article: insomnia, adjustment sleep
disorder, questionnaires, studies and menopause. Publications of all types were included. Seven scales were
identified: Insomnia Severity Index, Athens Insomnia Scale, Pittsburgh Quality of sleep Index, Epworth
Sleepiness Scale, Jenkins Sleep Scale, Basic Nordic Sleep Questionnaire and The St Mary's Hospital Sleep
Questionnaire. There are validated scales in multiple languages and considered appropriate for studying sleep
disorders.

Introduction. Quality of life could be quantified with the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS), which evaluates the severity of somatic, psychological, and urogenital symptoms in menopause. However, differential item functioning (DIF) analysis has not been applied previously. Objective. To establish the DIF of the psychological domain of the MRS in Colombian women. Methods. 4,009 women aged between 40 and 59 years, who participated in the CAVIMEC (Calidad de Vida en la Menopausia y Etnias Colombianas) project, were included. Average age was 49.0 ± 5.9 years. Women were classified in mestizo, Afro-Colombian, and indigenous. The results were presented as averages and standard deviation (í µí±‹±SD). A í µí± value <0.001 was considered statistically significant. Results. In mestizo women, the highest í µí±‹ ± SD were obtained in physical and mental exhaustion (PME) (0.86 ± 0.93) and the lowest ones in anxiety (0.44 ± 0.79). In Afro-Colombian women, an average score of 0.99 ± 1.07 for PME and 0.63 ± 0.88 for anxiety was gotten. Indigenous women obtained an increased average score for PME (1.33 ± 0.93). The lowest score was evidenced in depressive mood (0.50 ± 0.81), which is different from other Colombian women (í µí± < 0.001). Conclusions. The psychological items of the MRS show differential functioning according to the ethnic group, which may induce systematic error in the measurement of the construct.

Objective: To estimate the correlation between quality of life, sleep quality with the body mass index (BMI) in Colombian women. Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out in women aged between 40 and 59 years, residents in areas located in the Caribbean and Pacific coasts of Colombia, belonging to Hispanic, Afro-descendant and Indigenous ethnic groups. They participated willingly, in their own communities, anonymously and with informed consent. Hysterectomized and pregnant women were excluded. And a socio-demographic survey, the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), Pittsburgh Sleep Index (PSQI) and the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) were applied. The BMI was calculated measuring participants' weight and height. Data is presented in median and interquartile range. The three scales showed an adequate Cronbach's alpha. The Spearman (r s) correlation coefficient was calculated with the statistical program SPSS-15. A p value <0.05 was considered significant. Results: 3525 women were involved. Average age: 48.0 [IR:8] years old, number of children born: 3 [IR:2], education level: 11.0 [IR:7] years, diabetic women: 7.7%, women with Arterial Hyper-tension: 15.5%, usual coffee use: 71.4%, actual smokers: 8.4%, weight: 68 [IR:15] kg, BMI: 25.6 [IR:5.6], underweight: 2.7%, Normal: 41.2%, overweight: 39.1%, obesity-I: 12.4%, obesity-II: 3.8%, obesity-III: 0.6% and hormone therapy use: 11.5%. According to the menopause status: premenopause: 32.3%, perimenopause: 19.4%, postmenopause: 48.2%. A weak positive correlation was noticed between BMI and somatic-vegetative (r s = 0.20), psychological (r s = 0.17) and urogenital deterioration (r s = 0.15) and quality of life (r s = 0.2). p < 0.001. The correlation between BMI and sleep quality (r s = 0.020) and insomnia (r s = 0.004) were not significant. Conclusion: In a Colombian women group, the BMI had a weak positive correlation with quality of life and the domains of the MRS. However, neither quality of sleep nor insomnia had a significant correlation with the BMI. Objectives: This study was conducted to assess the effects of Nigella sativa on post menopausal symptoms and quality of life among yasujian menopausal women. Methods: In a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, 61 menopausal women were randomly allocated to receive either placebo or 2 g of Nigella sativa for 12 weeks. After getting informed consent, the participants were interviewed using Short Form Questionnaire (SF-36) before and after intervention to assess their quality of life before the treatment and at the end of the study. Greene Climacteric Scale (GCS) also was completed in order to assess the clinical effect on climacteric symptoms before and after intervention. Hormonal level including estradiol (E2) and follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) were measured at baseline and at the end of study. Results: The finding revealed that total SF-36 scores and its components including mental component summary (MCS) and physical component summary (PCS) of the SF-36 improved significantly (p < 0.05) compared to control group. A highly significant improvement was observed in the total GCS and its sub-scales (p < 0.01). Significant increment in serum E2 and reduction in FSH level were observed following three months treatment (p < 0.01). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated the potential of Nigella sativa as an alternative to hormone replacement therapy in management of menopausal symptoms. Introduction: Sexuality significantly affects quality of women's lives even after menopause. Age, sexual hormone levels, illness and certain drugs have adverse effects on sexuality. Objectives: Gynaecologists decided to conduct a pilot study titled 'Let's Discuss Sexuality'. Aim: To receive more data about the impact of drugs and some risk factors on sexual life. Methods: We gathered data from menopausal women visiting the outpatient clinics by using an anonymous survey. We collected data about factors and drugs, which might have an impact on sexual life. Data was gathered in 2007 in primary gynaecological outpatient clinics. We gathered 1657 surveys; out of which 1506 were suitable for statistical analysis.

ABSTRACT Those women who have early menopause have major cardiovascular and metabolic risk. The menopause below 40 years of age has been associated to increase in the risk of early beginning of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and diabetes mellitus, disorders characterized by hyperglycemia and glucose intolerance due to deficiency of insulin, decrease of the effectiveness of its action or both. The menopausal hormone therapy is the principal therapeutic tool, with the aim to contribute estrogens to suppress the clinical symptomatology and to make a favorably impact on the estrogen-dependent tissues. The existing data regarding menopausal hormone therapy in women experiencing menopause at the median age should not be extrapolated to women experiencing premature menopause.

Objetivo: Identificar las propuestas terapéuticas disponibles para el manejo de la vulvovaginitis atrófica o atrofia vulvovaginal posmenopáusica (AVVP) o síndrome genitourinario de la menopausia. Metodología: Revisión temática sin intervención en la cual se incluyeron artículos cuyo principal criterio fue tratamiento y manejo de la AVVP, obtenidos luego de búsqueda en las bases de datos: Pubmed, Science Direct, Embase, Medline y Scielo. 2119 títulos se consideraron adecuados, 136 ajustados al objetivo y en 87 fue identificada información relevante. Resultados: Diferentes estrategias terapéuticas han mostrado eficacia para el tratamiento de AVVP. Cambios en el estilo de vida, como evitar el hábito de fumar, prevenir la obesidad, realizar ejercicio físico y adelantar actividad sexual, pueden ser beneficiosos. Los hidratantes y lubricantes vaginales son la primera línea terapéutica para mejorar la AVVP, los primeros se administran permanentemente y los últimos en el coito. Existe controversia acerca de la importancia de la vitamina D, isoflavonas y diferentes hierbas. La terapia estrogénica local es la terapéutica más efectiva y debe preferirse siempre en AVVP severa, puede ser estriol, estradiol, estrógenos conjugados o estrona. El ospemifeno, un modulador selectivo del receptor estrogénico, está aprobado para la AVVP. Se encuentran en investigación los TSECs, existe poca información sobre la eficacia de DHEA y son buenos los resultados con los STEAR. Estudios iniciales han señalado los beneficios del láser fraccionado de CO2. Conclusiones: Diferentes medidas son adecuadas para tratar la AVVP, para que las mujeres conserven saludable la vagina y disfruten la actividad sexual.

Introduction: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the complications associated with severe COVID-19 infection, and it can present in up to 20% to 40% of the cases; of these, approximately 20% will require renal replacement therapy (RRT). Objective: To establish clinical and laboratory characteristics in a group of patients from Colombia with COVID-19 infection and AKI that received intermittent and prolonged RRT with the GENIUS ® 90 technology in between March and July 2020. Design: Cross-sectional study. Results: 78.9% of participants were men and 21.1% were women. The main comorbidities were the following: Hypertension (65.3%), diabetes mellitus (38.9%), obesity (26.3%), cancer (5.3%), Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (11.6%), cardiovascular disease (23.2%), active smoking (11.6%). 33.7% had chronic kidney disease (CKD) in the average serum creatinine on admission was 4.4 mg/dl. The following infl ammatory markers were elevated: C-reactive protein (CRP), d-dimer and ferritin (20.3 mg/dl, 931mcg/l and 1174 ng/ml, respectively). 63.5% of patients underwent sustained low-effi ciency dialysis (SLED) (6 to 12 hours) and the rest of the patients (36.35%) underwent conventional hemodialysis (less than 4 hours). The mortality of the total patient sample was 36.9%, lower in patients with CKD than in patients with no previous renal disease history (18.7% and 40.1%, respectively). Conclusion: Renal complications are frequent in patients with severe COVID-19. The development of AKI could be an isolated prognostic marker associated with an increase in mortality in patients with COVID-19, and one of the options is intermittent and prolonged RRT with the GENIUS ® 90 system.
