Brine shrimp Artemia is recognized as a suitable model among planktonic species for studying the impact of polystyrene nanoparticles (PS NPs) through short and long-term bioassays. Our study aims to evaluate the timedependent effects of cationic amino-modified PS-NH 2 (50 nm) in A. franciscana after short-(48 h) and long-term exposure (14 days). For this purpose, nauplii were exposed to a concentration range of PS-NH 2 (0.1, 1, 3 and 10 µg/mL) in natural sea water (NSW), and physiological, biochemical and molecular responses were investigated. Short-term exposure to PS-NH 2 caused a decrease in nauplii growth and affected the development in a concentration-dependent manner, long-term exposure impaired the survival, but not the growth and feeding behavior. Oxidative stress was detected after short term exposure as the decrease in the activity of antioxidant enzymes, and was fully evident in the long-term as lipid peroxidation, suggesting an accumulative effect. The decrease in Cholinesterase (ChE) activity observed indicates possible neurotoxic action of PS-NH 2. Also, Carboxylesterase (CbE) inhibition by PS-NH 2, described for the first time in this study, anticipates potential effects in biotransformation of exogenous and endogenous compounds, being the crustacean juvenile hormone methyl farnesoate (MF) that regulates development and molting, one candidate. Furthermore, short-and long-term exposure to PS-NH 2 affect the expression of genes involved in cell protection, development and molting. Overall, our results reveal that low PS-NH 2 concentrations induce physiological, biochemical and molecular (changes in gene expression) alterations in Artemia, and point at their potential risk for this model organism, supporting the general concern about nanoplastics occurrences in aquatic environments and their ability to represent an ecological threat for aquatic zooplanktonic species.

In the two weeks of the course, they also have resuscitation training . The program has been running since 2009. It a...

[M]ores as to being viewed naked by members of the opposite sex under certain circumstances are bound to change as women become further integrated into the occupational and professional world. The traditional rule that only male guards may view male inmates under these conditions may derive from just the type of stereotypical value system condemned by Title VII. 2

Even with the professional motion capture systems, the acquired raw data mostly contain inevitable noises and outliers. To denoise the data, numerous methods have been developed, while this problem still remains a challenge due to the high complexity of human motion and the diversity of real-life situations. In this paper, we propose a data-driven-based robust human motion denoising approach by mining the spatial-temporal patterns and the structural sparsity embedded in motion data. We first replace the regularly used entire pose model with a much fine-grained partlet model as feature representation to exploit the abundant local body part posture and movement similarities. Then, a robust dictionary learning algorithm is proposed to learn multiple compact and representative motion dictionaries from the training data in parallel. Finally, we reformulate the human motion denoising problem as a robust structured sparse coding problem in which both the noise distribution information and the temporal smoothness property of human motion have been jointly taken into account. Compared with several state-of-the-art motion denoising methods on both the synthetic and real noisy motion data, our method consistently yields better performance than its counterparts. The outputs of our approach are much more stable than that of the others. In addition, it is much easier to setup the training dataset of our method than that of the other data-driven-based methods.

It is shown that in the technology of reinforcing concrete framing, metal reinforcing has seen a new alternative in the form of fiberglass, basalt plastic reinforced polymer and carbon fiber. Efficiency of application of reinforcing construction made of composite materials includes not only increased corrosion resistance, but also better compatibility of materials in strength and deformation properties. The article suggests experimental evaluation of the adhesion of the steel reinforcing with concrete to account for its real nature.

Chameleons have been introduced in southern Italy, possibly from the Middle East and Tunisia. We conducted genetic analyses on mitochondrial DNA 16S gene on a larger sample. We observed a multiple origin for the Salento (Apulia, southern Italy) population, with individuals phylogenetically related to populations of North Africa and two areas in the Middle East. Some individuals may have been released before the 1950s and some others in the 1980s, improving the establishment success of this species.

Firstly to compare performance of discerning randomness and inherent nonlinear properties within time series, this study calculated the aforementioned four nonlinear complexity values on several typical artificial time series i.e., Gauss noise, two kinds of noisy time series, two kinds of Logistic series and periodic series, respectively. Then for analyzing sensitivity of the aforementioned four complexity methods to content level of different types noise within ECG recordings, we investigated variation trend of ELZC, ApEn, SmpEn and PerEn in several synthetic ECG recordings containing different types noise (i.e., baseline wander, muscle artefacts, electrode motion, power line and mixed noise) and different signal noise ratios (i.e., 15, 10, 5, 0, −5 and −10 dB). Finally...

Testing our model on a sample of 102 inter-firm relations, we find that firms with organizational cultures characterized by an orientation towards stability and predictability, a positive orientation towards innovation, and not characterized by a strong focus on immediate results, score high on relationship skills. Relationship skills, in turn, positively affect the perceived relationship performance.
