Deep Red can be considered the perfect embodiment of Giallo as it features almost all the conventions of the genre while adding transgressive elements to it. It exhibits the basic features of a detective story like an amateur detective, a sadistic killer and the depiction of brutal crimes while using red herrings to mislead the detective/audience and using several motifs like black leather gloves and children musical theme to emphasize the psychological aspect of the murders. It is rather important to recognize the established conventions and genre tropes within Giallo cinema to see how detective fiction was changed or even subverted by the filmmakers to create a wholly new subgenre. Giallo is now established as a stand-alone subgenre and, although short-lived, it became massively popular in the early-60s to mid-70s and changed the detective stories for the better and influenced future film genres and subgenres like ‘Slashers’ or even the ‘New French Extremity’ in France.

In the mainstream discussion, the metaphorical functions of such words as ‘smell,’ ‘insects,’ ‘the rock,’ and ‘the party’ are assessed within the context of the film. The central questions of the article, therefore, are: What are the recurrent and metaphorical motifs in the plotline and how can their implications be related to the overall theme of the film? How does Parasite exhibit the clash of classes in a capitalist society? To answer the questions, the present study offers a comprehensive analysis of its recurring metaphors as well as its treatment of the characters who visibly belong to two completely different classes. Through a complex story of two families whose fate gets intermingled, Bong Joon-ho masterfully presents a metaphoric ...

Through a complex story of two families whose fate gets intermingled, Bong Joon-ho masterfully presents a metaphoric picture of a society where inequality is rampant and the poor can only experience temporary happiness in the shadow of the rich (represented by the Park family).
