
Giuliana Albini
Giuliana Albini (1950) is full professor of Medieval History at the University of Milan. She’s been Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Chair of the postgraduate specialisation school for teachers at the same university. Currently she’s member of the Department of Historical Studies and Chair of the board of the Didactic coordination of History. She is also member of the board of the Ph. D. in “History, culture and theories of society and institutions”. She takes part, as member and chair, in various editorial and scientific committees, among which is the on line journal “Studi di Storia Medievale e di Diplomatica” new series < https://riviste.unimi.it/index.php/SSMD > for which she serves as the editor-in-chief. She has been involved in private and public projects of historical comunication and divulgation: since 2017 she is member of the board of the Master in Public History, sponsored by the Department of Historical Studies in collaboration with the Feltrinelli Foundation of Milan.
Her research focuses on demographic, social and institutional patterns of the Italian late Middle Ages, with a special interest in the social problems of the urban environment and in charitable and welfare practices, both individual and institutional. She is the author of several publications, among which the books Città e ospedali nella Lombardia medievale, Bologna 1993, Carità e governo delle povertà: secoli XII-XV, Milano 2002, Poveri e povertà nel Medioevo, Roma 2016. Her latest publications on hospitals and welfare include Pauperismo e solidarietà femminile nell’Italia settentrionale (secoli XIII-XIV), “Storia delle Donne”, 13 (2017), pp. 103-126; Lo spedale de’ Poveri di Milano nello sguardo dei cittadini e dei forestieri (secc. XV-XVII), in Ingenita curiositas. Studi sull’Italia medievale per Giovanni Vitolo, eds. B. Figliuolo- R. Di Meglio- A.
