I discuss the work of Filippo Marinetti, Hugo Ball, Vito Acconci, Laurie Anderson, Kristin Oppenheim and Janet Cardiff. I focus on the voice as an embodied emission and vibration, the voice as the self's invocation of the other, the voice as a technologised ventriloquy and what I term a vocalic-body-space - a space of vocalic resonance that precedes symbolic meaning, but forms the ground from which it is generated.
