The objectives of the study were to determine the impact of social media on youths’ political participation in the 2019 Nigeria general elections, with undergraduates of the University of Ilorin as case study; to examine the perceptions of Nigerian youths about Nigerian politician’s image on social media; to examine the believability level of political news Nigerian youths read on social media and to determine the level of credibility Nigerian youths attach to political messages on social media. The study was guided by the agenda-setting theory. The research methodology adopted was the survey method with questionnaires as the data collection instrument. Findings from the study revealed that social media did have a positive influence on youths’ participation in the political and electoral process, especially the 2019 Nigeria general elections. Social media influenced youths’ choice of political candidate and party but, quite amazingly, did not actually guarantee that youths voted for any political candidate just because he or she has a social media account. Youths also regard social media as a credible medium for political discourses and majority also testified to the social media as making them become more politically active. This does not come as a surprise if one considers how often and how much time youths spend on social media daily.

The act may be carried out by physical force, coercion, abuse of authority/power or against a person who is incapable of giving valid consent, such as one who is unconscious, incapacitated, has an intellectual disability or below the legal age of consent (underaged). The term rape is sometimes usually interchangeably with 'sexual assault'. Over 90% of predatory sex is perpetrated by males against females as rape is still thought to be a crime against women specifically (and historically was defined this way), however, there have been reported cases of male-on-male rape, female-on-male rape and female-on-female rape, which means rape isn't just about male-on-female rape. In many parts of the world, rape is very rarely reported, due to the extreme social stigma cast on those who have been raped or the fear of being disowned by their families or subjected to violence. Furthermore, in countries where adultery and/or premarital sex are illegal, victims of rape can face prosecution under these laws, if there is not sufficient evidence to prove a rape in the court. Even if they can prove their rape case, evidence during investigation may surface showing that they were not virgins at the time of rape, which if they are unmarried, opens the door for prosecution. Victims of rape or sexual assault come from a wide range of sexual orientations, genders, ages and degrees of impairment and disabilities. Perpetrators sometimes use objects for penetration, force the victims to perform oral sex or assault the victim with anal penetration. Those experiencing non-consensual, forced sexual experiences include women, heterosexual and homosexual men, boys, adolescent males, spouses, girlfriends, boyfriends, prepubescent girls and boys, adolescent girls, children, the elderly and even infants. Forced sexual experiences can be committed over a long period of time accompanied with little or no physical injury.
