On the basis of the interviews and the examination of the relevant literature, we can identify three major changes in this respect.
Firstly, there was a devaluation of shepherdry after the First World War. Secondly, a pos-itive effect was exerted on the majority of the segments of the occupation of shepherds during the collectivization and the process of establishing agricultural cooperatives fol-lowing the Second World War. Finally, there was the discontinuation of shepherdry in the framework of cooperatives after the change of the political regime in Hungary, followed by a recent upsurge in touristic attention to the region called Hortobágy and the shepherds’ way of life.
