The COVID-19 pandemic abruptly led millions of teachers and students in Brazil to migrate massive... more The COVID-19 pandemic abruptly led millions of teachers and students in Brazil to migrate massively, quickly, and at scale to online remote teaching. This created a strong tension between different sectors of society and rekindled (old) beliefs, values, and prejudices related to the use of new technologies in education. On the one hand are vehement defenders for adoption of these technologies at schools; on the other are those who reject them, as they consider that transitioning from in-presence to online teaching at scale is a very difficult and highly complex undertaking for education systems. In this chapter, one seeks to discuss how the perspective of multiliteracies, updated for the currently pervasively digital age, can contribute to understanding the clash between defense and resistance to new technologies at schools. To do so, first, this article will explore the main features and concepts of the theory of multiliteracies. Second, in order to highlight the close relationship between multiliteracies and education, the article analyzes an example of a multimodal tweet posted on Twitter by a former Minister of Education in Brazil, addressing the Brazilian public school setting of online remote teaching.

O objetivo deste artigo é fornecer uma discussão epistemológica sobre as fake news, entendendo-as... more O objetivo deste artigo é fornecer uma discussão epistemológica sobre as fake news, entendendo-as não apenas como notícias falsas, mas, de uma forma mais ampla, como informações falsas provenientes de ações deliberadas de desinformação, movidas por interesses econômicos, políticos, ideológicos e sociais, divulgadas em mídias impressas, televisivas, radiofônicas e digitais (online), mormente em redes sociais da internet. Para tanto, discuto a ideia de participação na internet, tomando como base o conceito de Web 2.0, situando-o à luz do conceito de multissinóptico. Em seguida, mostro como elementos de natureza sociotécnica das redes sociais da internet, ao envolverem agentes humanos e não humanos, são mais complexos do que os meios tradicionais de comunicação de massa, e como isso contribui para a produção e proliferação de fake news. The objective of this paper is to analyze the process of construction of collaborative writing pr... more The objective of this paper is to analyze the process of construction of collaborative writing practices of a group of students of a Brazilian secondary public school, by means of the use of two Internet tools: instant messaging and e-mail. As for the type of research, it is a typical qualitative investigation, which is characterized, more specifically, as a research action, whose intention is not only restricted to understand or describe the world of practice, but, above of all, to try to change it. We base our theoretical discussion upon the digital revolution occurred with the Web 2.0 advent, in which we show how changes inherent to the passage from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 reflected in the creation processes on internet, and upon the theoretical-analytical devices, proposed by Lowry et al. (2004), which are based upon: collaborative writing activities, collaborative writing strategies, collaborative writing roles and collaborative writing modes.

Differentiated e-learning promises to add value and enhance the educational services provided by an academic institution. In this paper we present our online learning model that advocates and endorses differentiated learning as an e-learning affordance that has been facilitated through the development of new learning technologies. We demonstrate how the online portal enables and supports multiple instances whereby differentiated learning is applied and practiced, including through the use of a novel analytics tool that sums up the overall learner effort in one visual. RESUMO O uso de redes sociais da internet aumentou exponencialmente desde o início da pandemia de... more RESUMO O uso de redes sociais da internet aumentou exponencialmente desde o início da pandemia de Covid-19. Tal aumento fez com que elas se tornassem ainda mais propícias para a divulgação massiva de fake news, transformando-se um problema de natureza social e de saúde pública. Com o intuito de compreender o modus operandi das fake news nas redes sociais, este artigo tem como objetivo promover uma discussão epistemológica que busque compreender o processo de produção e disseminação de (in)verdades nesses ambientes. Student performance over a course of an academic program can be significantly affected and positi... more Student performance over a course of an academic program can be significantly affected and positively influenced through a series of feedback processes by peers and tutors. Ideally, this feedback is structured and incremental, and as a consequence, data presents at large scale even in relatively small classes. In this paper, we investigate the effect of such processes as we analyze assessment data collected from online courses. We plan to fully analyze the massive dataset of over three and a half million granular data points generated to make the case for the scalability of these kinds of learning analytics. This could shed crucial light on assessment mechanism in MOOCs, as we continue to refine our processes in an effort to strike a balance of emphasis on formative in addition to summative assessment.

Destaco também, já de início, que, ao usar no título deste texto o termo “letramento a distância” (LaD), procuro estabelecer um contraponto com o termo “educação a distância (EaD), assim como busco ir além da discussão atual sobre uso das tecnologias no contexto da pandemia. Com isso, os objetivos deste texto são dois: 1) discutir a questão dos letramentos no contexto atual de pandemia; 2) fazer desse momento tão único e complexo uma possibilidade de repensar a educação, em particular a educação básica, através de uma reflexão que envolve revisitar o passado, analisar criticamente o presente para, então, imaginar o futuro. RESUMO: O objetivo deste artigo é discutir resultados de uma investigação sobre os modos como a p... more RESUMO: O objetivo deste artigo é discutir resultados de uma investigação sobre os modos como a prática do vandalismo pode impactar no processo de produção de um verbete da Wikipédia via práticas colaborativas de escrita. Para isso, tomamos como base as noções de Web 2.0 e práticas colaborativas de escrita para analisar edições do verbete “Simone de Beauvoir” que, devido a uma questão do Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio (ENEM) que fez uso de uma frase da filósofa Simone de Beauvoir, passou a ser alvo constante de vandalismo. Como resultado deste trabalho, nota-se que o processo de produção do verbete “Simone de Beauvoir” constitui, na perspectiva dos novos letramentos, um conjunto amplo e difuso de pessoas, interesses, inteligências e técnicas que promovem o projeto coletivo de escrita da Wikipédia.

In view of the growing interest of researches that deal specifically with teaching and learning i... more In view of the growing interest of researches that deal specifically with teaching and learning in empirical contexts and the use of digital information and communication technologies to understand practices, conditions and impacts of Internet use in education, this article aims at discussing the academic production process, in particular the one related to teaching and learning contexts. To do so, one seeks as theoretical-methodological route to develop a qualitative epistemological discussion about knowledge(s), by organizing it based on the Foucauldian concepts of savoir and connaissance, on the plural conception of epistemology and on the notion of critical literacy, so as to (re)think the own knowledge construction process from the perspective of an ecology of knowledge's. One considers that this perspective allows us to rethink research based on two founding points: the first one is its qualitative character, since qualitative researches seek to describe and to understand the practices of the participants involved in any investigation; and secondly, its socio-political character, since empirical researches in teaching and learning contexts through the Internet might contribute to the development of both basic and higher education.

Os trabalhos mais alinhados com a teoria de "gêneros textuais", ao procederem a análises, ou apli... more Os trabalhos mais alinhados com a teoria de "gêneros textuais", ao procederem a análises, ou aplicarem o conceito de "gênero", tendem a recorrer a categorias mais ligadas à estrutura ou forma composicional dos textos, categorias herdadas principalmente da Linguística Textual (tipos, protótipos, sequências típicas etc.). Neste trabalho, porém, adotaremos uma visão que se coaduna com os "gêneros discursivos", cujo maior representante é Mikhail Bakhtin, em que as categorias de análise e os referenciais teóricos são construídos, focalizando-se aspectos da materialidade linguística, que se constituem através dos parâmetros da situação de enunciação em seus aspectos sócio-históricos. Nesse sentido, as se adotar a noção de gêneros discursivos, as três dimensões dos gêneros (tema, forma composicional e estilo) são entendidas como determinadas pelos elementos de sua situação social de interlocução, pois, sem eles, os gêneros não podem ser compreendidos, produzidos ou conhecidos (a esse respeito, ver Rojo (2005).
