Misoginia maschile e rappresentazione del materno nella storia italiana contemporanea Journal Issue: gender/sexuality/italy, 5 (2018) Abstract: In the history of many civilizations, the normative representation of motherhood has been one of the key instruments in the dominance men have established over women. This article focuses on the political function played by maternal stereotypes in modern Italian history, especially in protecting the integrity of masculine identity. Since the nineteenth century, misogynistic discourse has emphasized women's "natural" destiny, restricted to family life and reproduction. Yet even in the twentieth century, when virilistic rhetoric based on the biological inferiority of women started to fail, the call to the "maternal mission" continued to play a central role in new misogynistic representations based on gender diversity or complementarity.
Le riflessioni contenute in queste pagine vorrebbero contribuire a un inquadramento interpretativ... more Le riflessioni contenute in queste pagine vorrebbero contribuire a un inquadramento interpretativo, sul piano storiografico, delle dinamiche del Settantasette bolognese 1 . L'obiettivo è quindi quello di soffermarsi molto più sulle possibili chiavi di lettura di quelle vicende, che non su una ricostruzione puntuale delle vicende stesse. Si tratta, è bene dirlo subito, di un tentativo fortemente condizionato da almeno due fattori. In primo luogo, occorre fare i conti con una scarsa attenzione storiografica al tema: non è attualmente disponibile alcuna ricerca storiografica ampia e specifica sul Settantasette bolognese; nel merito, sono naturalmente rintracciabili spunti interessanti in vari testi dedicati alle vicende nazionali del movimento, ma un vero e proprio sguardo d'insieme sullo scenario bolognese è tutto, si può dire, ancora da costruire. Il secondo fattore riguarda i limiti oggettivi (oltre che, ovviamente, soggettivi) della ricerca che ho avuto modo di svolgere, e si collega al primo: stante innanzitutto lo scarso retroterra interpretativo, una ricognizione articolata sul Settantasette bolognese richiederebbe certamente uno studio ben più approfondito di quanto a chi scrive è stato possibile realizzare 2 .

This nexus emerges in the campaign against urbanization and its concomitant exaltation of the peasant world, as well as in the critique of intellectuals and the antibourgeois campaign. Through a critique of the modern woman, fascism emphasized the hierarchical relationship between the sexes, which found its justification in the supposed immutability of the subaltern feminine role.
