Zugrunde liegt die Beobachtung veränderter Regimes der Wertschöpfung und Verteilung auf regionaler, nationaler und globaler Ebene, die sich in verstärktem territorialem und individuellem Wettbewerb ausdrücken. Eine Konsequenz davon ist die massiv angestiegene Mobilität von Individuen, Gütern und Kapital und die daraus folgenden Praktiken der Multilokalität, die ihrerseits Rückwirkungen auf Raumentwicklung und Raumnutzung hat. Verschiedene, als kompatibel erachtete, regionalökonomische Konzepte werden gruppiert und grob auf ihre Erklärungskraft bezüglich relevanter Akteure der Multilokalität geprüft. In der Synthese wird die Argumentationskette an fünf Kernelementen des Paradigmenwechsels ausformuliert.

Social innovation" has become a buzzword and sometimes it seems that it is the successor of the f... more Social innovation" has become a buzzword and sometimes it seems that it is the successor of the famous "best practices". In fact it is sometimes hard to distinghuish what is really a social innovation.The presentation argues that hosting migrants in mountain areas is a real social innovation as it it is a statement against the current tendencies of isolation and xenophobia in Europe and may help in the long run to stabilize fragile municipalities and regions in its peripheral regions. In this sense, it could counteract increasing territorial cleavages between mountains and plains, and between rural and metropolitan areas. The paper presents three examples from the Italian Alps. Experiences from the other Alpine countries will be added in the oral presentation. The paper concludes that hosting migrants may be favourable for regions and migrants. The new situation may create a laboratory situation to develop new forms of cooperation in sparsely populated areas. .
The article analyses the recent status and development of permanent inhabitants and second homes ... more The article analyses the recent status and development of permanent inhabitants and second homes in the UNESCO World Heritage (WH) Dolomites area in the Italian Alps. First, the results show that a growth of permanent population is ongoing selectively in the urban and periurban areas, confirming earlier research in the Alpine arc and showing that agglomeration advantages are taking place. Second, the results show that these processes are parallel to a shifting use of second homes, announcing a transformation from an export-based to a residential economy in which second homes seem not to be homogeneously complementary to the tourist sector. Third, the Dolomites are not a homogenous region: despite the joint application process for WH site involving five provinces, demographic and economic differences can be highlighted along the provincial borders. Nun verandern der vermehrte Besitz von Zweitwohnungen und die Verbilligung des Reisens das Freizeitverhalten vom touristischen Hotelaufenthalt zur Multilokalitat im eigenen Feriendomizil. Dies hat Auswirkungen auf die gesellschaftliche Stellung der Einwohner und die lokale Wirtschaftsstruktur in den Ferienorten. Auch verschwimmen die Grenzen zwischen Arbeit und Freizeit. Dies verandert auch die Funktion der Freizeitwohnungen, die nunmehr in gleicher Weise wie die Stadtwohnungen genutzt werden. Die digitale Plattform-Wirtschaft greift diese Tendenz auf und verstarkt sie. In der Summe resultiert eine Ausweitung der Siedlungsflache.

Afin d'évaluer la portée des deux approches sur la représentation de l'urbain et du rural dans les deux pays, l'Observatoire statistique transfrontalier a décidé de faire appliquer la formule française des aires urbaines à la partie suisse et la formule suisse des agglomérations à la partie française.

This shift from Fordism to post-Fordism has led to a weakening of the model of the European welfare state. Social innovation has become an instrument to promote regional self-responsibility and entrepreneurial activity by local authorities. The concept of social innovation has become widespread among various disciplines and controversially used by them. Referring to regional and corporate success stories based on the commitment of grassroots movements and civil society has its shortcomings, as the new spatiality regimes show increasing disparities. The article shows the different lines of conflict in the discussion about social innovations and makes suggestions for the specification and delimitation of the concept. Mountain regions are subject to a unique set of economic pressures: they act as collective enterp... more Mountain regions are subject to a unique set of economic pressures: they act as collective enterprises which have to valorize rare resources, such as spectacular landscapes. While primarily rural in nature, they often border large cities, and the development of industries such as hydroelectric power and the rapid development of tourism can bring about sweeping socio-economic change and vast demographic alterations. The Spatial and Economic Transformation of Mountain Regions describes the socio-economic changes and spatial impacts of the last four decades, with the transformation of mountain areas held up as an example. Much of the real-world context draws on the Alps, spanning as they do the significant economies of France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Chapters address academic discourse on regional development in these mountain areas and suggest alternative approaches to the liberal-productivist societal model. This book will be essential reading for professionals, institutions, and NGOs searching for counter-models to the existing marketing approaches for peripheral areas. Living in more than one residential place is what is understood as multi-living. As such it invol... more Living in more than one residential place is what is understood as multi-living. As such it involves dealing with different contexts, different authorities, and different cultures. The distance and absence of a constant place are among the main issues that multi-living people face. Space and territory, in their interrelation, are essential components of everyday life for all social actors. Territory is a multidimensional notion that needs to be considered in all its meanings: an existential one (life cycles and living experiences), a physical one (frame: it gives the boundary, the definition) and an organisational one (society, public policies, etc.). Therefore, it includes different elements: a) political and administrative, b) economic, c) social (social capital, networking between actors, etc.), and d) geographical and cognitive aspects (symbolic/identity/imagined community). In its social scope, as far as human society is concerned, territoriality is a concept mainly used in planning, architecture, and urbanism, in geography, anthropology and sociology, as well as in law and political science. To a lesser extent, it is applied in other social sciences, such as economics or history. Linked with territory, its meanings range in each of these disciplines and each language. Therefore, we can think of national territories’ territorialities and local authorities or consider the appropriation of space and places.
