В постсоветский период Беларусь, как и другие страны СССР, оказалась на идеологическом и "идентич... more В постсоветский период Беларусь, как и другие страны СССР, оказалась на идеологическом и "идентичностном" распутье. В литературе это отражалось в сосуществовании старшего поколения советских классиков (Василь Быков, Максим Танк, Нил Гилевич, Иван Шамякин) и активизацией молодого, авангардистски настроенного поколения авторов, которое пыталось устранить мировоззренческие и эстетические пробелы, возникшие за годы существования советской культурной модели (Ольгерд Бахаревич, Адам Глобус, Северин Квятковский и другие). По словам Алеся Бельского, в первое постсоветское десятилетие проходили «активные поиски, связанные с выработкой новых форм мышления», зарождались образцы модернисткой и постмодернисткой литературы (Бельскі 2000, 13) 1. Однако если в начале 90-х казалось, что будущее белорусской культуры и литературы будет белорусскоязычным, то с приходом в 1994 г. к власти Лукашенко с его неосоветским политическим курсом началось сворачивание национально-возрожденческого проекта. Белорусский язык как язык повседневности начал маргинализироваться, оставаясь, тем не менее, языком «серьезной» литературы. The paper focuses on shifts in official discourse in Belarus since 2014, after the Ukrainian even... more The paper focuses on shifts in official discourse in Belarus since 2014, after the Ukrainian events, that are labelled "soft Belarusization". This new approach can be interpreted as an attempt to support nationally oriented identity practices and as an attempt to establish more visible political and cultural boundaries between Belarus and the "Russian world". Firstly, this paper elaborates on the specifics of Belarusian identity and presents the historical and political background of the ongoing events. Secondly, several manifestations of soft Belarusization processes are analysed, such as changes in Belarusian authorities' rhetoric, their changing attitude towards the Belarusian language and unofficial state symbols and previously officially disregarded historical events and personalities, steps towards the creation of new symbols, and new relationships between official and "alternative" discourses.

On July 1, 2012 Raman Svechnikau left his house to start his hitchhiking journey around the world... more On July 1, 2012 Raman Svechnikau left his house to start his hitchhiking journey around the world. He had since visited more than 20 countries and came back to Belarus in late 2014. Later his travel experiences were published in two books named "Roma yedze" (Roma travels, 2014, 2015). The books carefully follow the process of traveler's inner transformations in his contacts with different cultures. Though presented in an informal and rather descriptive than analytical way, his commentary provides valuable insights into the mind of a present-day young Belarusian born shortly after the demise of the Soviet Union and raised in the turbulent nineties. The paper discusses the moments of confrontation which demonstrate the cultural differences perceived and narrated by the traveler in various non- familiar cultural contexts (Asia, South America), as well as the moments that present the acts of self-identification in contact with familiar post-Soviet cultures and post-Soviet ...

The following paper addresses the issue of memory and remembrance in the urban space of Brest (Be... more The following paper addresses the issue of memory and remembrance in the urban space of Brest (Belarus) and the discourse surrounding it. Brest, having celebrated its 1000th anniversary in 2019, is one of the most ancient Belarusian cities. However, due to its borderland position, it has always been a city with an uncertain identity. It is a ‘misplaced’ city and a city where certain parts of its history are mythologized, while others are repressed. Hence, the focus of the paper is on three aspects: the ancient past of Brest and contemporary practices of its remembrance; the Brest Fortress as a mythologized space and the rituals of ‘reliving’ the trauma of the fi rst days of the ‘Great Patriotic War’; the Brest ghetto and its victims as a repressed fragment of the city’s memory.

In the paper, we base on the hypothesis that S. Dovlatov was an example for the next generation writers of Soviet/Russian origin in terms of presen Natasha and Other Stories: language in emigration and national/ethnic (self)identification, stating commonness and differences in the way two writers approach these topics. The paper offers ground for further research in the topic.

Эта книга – попытка применить к рассмотрению современной русской прозы новую, насколько это возмо... more Эта книга – попытка применить к рассмотрению современной русской прозы новую, насколько это возможно, оптику, мотивированную как объективным изменением литературного и, шире, культурного ландшафта с началом полномасштабного вторжения России в Украину, так и субъективным изменением перспективы нас, исследователей-русистов. Как показали предыдущие тексты, этой оптикой нам удалось затронуть большое количество тем (от постмодернистского гротеска до автофикшна и новой волны эмиграции), но вместе с этим очевидно, что целый ряд тем остался за пределами этой книги, что также объяснимо. Авторский коллектив постарался подойти к интерпретации текстов и контекстов современной русской прозы с амбицией построить аргументацию, учитывающую (пост)(нео)имперскую ситуацию, в которой сегодня находится Россия и государства, которые она считает своей «сферой влияния». Поэтому мы говорим и о русофонной прозе, когда речь идет об авторах, чья идентичность не может определяться лишь на основании языка.
