Seelenreisen und Hadesfahrten gehören zu den berühmtesten Themen der antiken Literatur, sind bislang jedoch nicht hinreichend unter philosophischen Fragestellungen untersucht worden. Daher vereinigt dieser Band interdisziplinäre Beiträge internationaler WissenschaftlerInnen zum Thema Seelenreise, Hadesfahrt und Katabasis in der Antike mit Blick auf philosophische Texte und Fragestellungen. Das heuristische Paradigma von Seelenreise und Katabasis ermöglicht in beispielhafter Weise, Charakteristika und Spezifika von Seelenkonzeptionen historischer Gesellschaften hinsichtlich ihrer religiösen, politischen und philosophischen Kontextualisierungen und Funktionalisierungen zu untersuchen. In Anknüpfung an die vorliegende Forschungsliteratur zum Themenfeld Jenseitserfahrung, Seelenwanderung, Katabasis und Ekstasis wollen die Beiträge dieses Bandes nun den Horizont mit Blick auf Seelenreisen und verschiedene philosophische Fragestellungen erweitern. Die auf sorgfältigen Textanalysen basierenden vielen neuen Beobachtungen, die mit diesem Band vorgelegt werden, werden sicherlich den aktuellen Forschungsdiskurs mitprägen.
This volume compiles interdisciplinary papers by international scholars on the theme of journeys of the soul and katabasis in antiquity. Drawing upon the research literature on the nature of the world beyond, journeys of the soul, and journeys to Hades, these essays expand the perspective to explore philosophical issues and contextualize them in relation to current research discourse.
Diese spektakuläre und komplexe Schrift wird hier erstmals ins Deutsche übersetzt. Ein detaillierter Stellenkommentar erklärt zusammen mit der ausführlichen Einleitung den kultur-, religions- und philosophiegeschichtlichen Hintergrund und die denkwürdige Überlieferungsgeschichte. Der Beitrag von Helmut Seng, einem ausgewiesenen Experten des antiken Orakelwesens, bettet die «Tübinger Theosophie» zudem in ihren generischen und historischen Kontext ein.

numerous ambiguous, linguistic-stylistic, generic and compositional features that cause a reader to react with disconcertment and which are to be evaluated as intended ambiguity markers. These markers are analyzed and interpreted as subversive strategies and planned disruptive tactics that allow educated recipients to arrive at a satirical reading and a thoroughly sober, critical view of an inappropriate, seemingly insane enthusiasm for philosophy.
Reviewed by Lloyd Gerson in BMCR 2022.06.09: "As Pfefferkorn and Spinelli note in their introduction, a central aim of this collection is to broaden the study of imitation in Plato beyond aesthetic questions. Indeed, one way that this book succeeds, in my view, is by showing how even aesthetic questions, including those relating to music, painting, theatre, and dance, for example, cannot be effectively addressed in regard to Plato without reference to the widest possible metaphysical context. [...] All of the essays [...] taken together, bring into focus a concept, that of mimesis, that one might have supposed is not as central as it in fact is in the dialogues."
