This paper consolidates reflections from different disciplinary perspectives, synergising them under the umbrella of Semiology (L. JÄGER). Hence will be reconstructed, what is called the public space. Using the example of Small Placards (understood as a special Form of Communication; W. HOLLY) the textual and non-textual constitutions of public space will be focused, discussing in which way these two phenomena bidirectionally interact. In order to do so, different types of signs have to be analysed: Here only written-language, pictorial and architectural signs, as resources of semiosis, can be analysed in their function of constituting  space. This consideration is entirely framed by a holistic and action- theoretical understanding of communication (i.a. K. EHLICH).

Der Beitrag führt verschiedene disziplinäre Überlegungen  zusammen, um sie unter dem Dach der Semiologie (L. JÄGER) für eine empirisch angeleitete Rekonstruktion dessen, was als ›öffentlicher Raum‹ bezeichnet werden kann, fruchtbar zu machen. Dafür wird anhand der Kommunikationsform (W. HOLLY) Kleinplakat sowohl die textuelle wie die nicht-textuelle Konstitution des öffentlichen Raums in den Blick genommen und beide in ihrem wechselseitigen Zusammenspiel herausgearbeitet, indem vor allem die sprachlichen, bildlichen und  architektonischen Semioseressourcen in ihrer textur- und textweltkonstituierenden Funktion herangezogen werden (u.a. Als Ethnokategorie verweist der Ausdruck Weblog auf ein begriffliches Alltagswissen, dessen Einheit mit der Kategorie Kommunikationsform traditionell rekonstruiert wurde als medientechnisches Merkmalsbündel mit einem spezifischen Zeichenspeicherungs-, -übertragungs-und -verstärkungspotenzial. 1 Der vorliegende Beitrag bricht diese Kategorie pragmatisch/praxeologisch auf, um die institutionelle Position von geoberg.de als Kommunikationsform zu bestimmen. Dafür wird in kommunikationslinguistischer Perspektive an die Soziologie der Übersetzung angeschlossen, die im kultur-und medienwissenschaftlichen Diskurs mittlerweile breit diskutiert wird, und die die heterogenen Netzwerke nachzeichenbar macht, die die Medialisierung und Adressierung von Kommunikationen ermöglichen. Um aber die Wissenschaftsspezifik dieser Kommunikation auf geoberg.de beschreiben zu können, müssen einzelne Blogtexte in den Blick kommen und ihre musterhafte Position im institutionalisierten Forschungsprozess herausgearbeitet werden. Dies kann hier freilich nur exemplarisch geschehen. WISSEN, PRAXIS, INSTITUTION Alltägliches Wissen ist oft auf Praktiken bezogen: Es ist empraktisch. Wissenschaftliches Wissen zeichnet sich dadurch aus, diesem distanziert gegenüberzustehen: Ehlich bezeichnet dies als die »Depraxie« wissenschaftlichen Wissens, die »zur Strukturierung von Wissen und zu seiner Weiterentwicklung« befähigt. 2 Wissenschaft bringt zum Zweck dieser »Systematisierung«, »die die Empraxie als solche so nicht gewährleistet«, 3 aber eine Reihe von Praktiken hervor, die die Depraxierung des empraktischen Wissens erst ermöglicht. Wissenschaft ist daher ebenso durch ein empraktisches Wissen 4 bestimmt, das methodisches und kommunikatives Wissen umfasst. 5 Beides ist durch die Universität als Institution von Forschung und Lehre geprägt. 6

This paper turns Post-Foucauldian discourse linguistics upside down to explore the situatedness of discourses as their material possibility condition. In order to do so I firstly clarify Foucault’s notion of discourse oscillating between the poles of macro (knowledge order) and micro (material event). In a second step recent media discourse analysis is discussed as an attempt to understand “la matérialité de l’énoncé” (Foucault 1969: 135) as a possibility condition of discourses. In a third step I propose an approach that conceptualizes the possibility conditions of communicational acting systematically between media technologies and communicative genres. The media linguistic notion of Forms of Communication (cf. Domke 2010a; Holly 2011a; Meiler 2013a) promisingly conceptualizes these conditions as enabling communication, hence discourse in situ. Following this, in a fourth step three generic examples are analyzed from the related position of semiological pragmatics (cf. Jäger 2008; Rehbein 2001). By these three examples (taken from a corpus of communication in public space) the paper demonstrates how different Forms of Communication shape specific possibilities to communicate different types of discursive knowledge (and vice versa): verified, temporarily relevant, and contested knowledge. It is also worked out in which way the production conditions of each Form of Communication determine how accessible a discourse is. In this respect, public space and mass media appear to be remarkably opposed to one another.

The article deals with the use of the platform Twitter for internal scholarly communication from the perspective of contrastive linguistics of academic language. Since such a genuinely linguis­tic perspective on the scholarly use of Twitter is largely new, it is merely possible to take stock of the interdisciplinary dicussion of the phenomenon on the one hand and to methodologi­cally/ methodically explore a linguistic approach to it on the other. The perspective presented here combines a genuinely pragmatic approach to the analysis of scholarly language with media linguistic principles and terms that make it possible to compare recent and historical develop­ments in scientific communication.

This paper examines conversational data of German everyday narratives in audiovisual footage of face-to-face encounters and in log files of Facebook’s instant messenger. The qualitative analysis is focused on the interjection boah as a means of narrative activity, paying special attention to its multimodal form and its media dependent functionality. The preliminary findings show that boah is used to signal to the communication partner the utterer’s noticing of something unexpected: be it an observed object or event, a communicative action, or a recalled memory. On a phonetical level, it is possible to distinguish two forms of boah: a marked form and an unmarked form. Which of these two forms is instantiated in interaction depends on the intensity of unexpectedness (or the enactment of unexpectedness). In everyday narratives, the marked form is often found to be expressed by the recipient. In contrast to the face-to-face data, our instant messenger data shows that, here, almost without exception boah is only used by the storyteller. This conspicuous finding can be explained by the specific temporality of instant messaging which results from the structural media conditions that instant messengers or e. g. internet relay chats similarly impose on the use of communicative means like interjections. We finally discuss how this dialectic relation between communicative function and mediality prompts further analyses of other communicative means, for example, the pattern of everyday narratives itself.

Using the example of weblogs the paper raises the question what kind ofprocedures are necessary to enable speech acts (written or spoken), pictures(moving or static), typography, layout, etc. – i.e., procedures thatare considered to be possibility conditions for acts of communication. Schlieben-Lange 1975a), Methodologie der Sprachwissenschaft (hrsg. v. Schecker 1976b), Gegenstand und Wahrheit (hrsg. v. Dittmann et al. 1976) sowie Wissenschaftstheorie der Linguistik (hrsg. v. Wunderlich 1976) genannt. Darin wird geradezu nach Sturm gerufen, wenn etwa Schlieben-Lange (1975b) einleitend feststellt: Zwar scheint die "Linguistik" (und damit ist vor allem die deutsche Ausprägung der transformationellen Grammatik gemeint) dem Außenstehenden äußerst "theoretisch" (was für ihn wohl synonym ist mit "praxisfern"). In Wahrheit aber hat eine Theoriediskussion, wie sie andere Wissenschaften durchgestanden haben (der Hinweis auf den Positivismusstreit der Soziologie scheint fast zu aufdringlich), in der modernen Sprachwissenschaft noch nicht stattgefunden. Was nach außen hin als theoretisches Niveau schreckt, entspricht weithin der Bewußtlosigkeit im Selbstverständnis der Linguisten.
